Comrade12 0 Posted March 4, 2008 I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.00 gb of Ram Nividia 8600 GT My game runs pretty good but when theres to many soldiers or stuff in a game the FPS slowly go down until its like 2 FPS. I thought the problem was my video card so I upgraded and it ran better, but I still had the same problem of when a battle got bigger or more troops were put on the map it slowly got slower. This is a big problem if im am playing any CTI or DAC. Is it my Processor power. Or not enough ram. Usualy my CPU ussage goes to 54% when the game starts going HORRIBLY slow and slow. Any comments? By the way I have VISTA*
-Puma- 2 Posted March 4, 2008 well u should downgrade to Xp for starters. second lower ur in-game settings, post-processing kills performance aswell as shadows and AA. ur processor and video card is unfortunately a bit poor to play arma fluently. if u can sell that 8600 and get ur self a cheap but rediculously powerful 8800gt
max power 21 Posted March 4, 2008 It sounds like your cpu may be the bottle neck in your system. There are some graphics settings (like view distance?) that are cpu intensive. You might try randomly lowering settings and seeing what kind of effect it has.
Pulverizer 1 Posted March 4, 2008 Is this online or local? Those kind of missions are usually intented for powerful dedicated servers, not for one of the players to host.
Comrade12 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Lowering graphics and view distance does a little bit. I guess my computer cant handle so much memmory. Stupid computer! I play alot of SP anyways. You think I need another gig stick cause I cant get through one CTI! without it bogging down.
mosh 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Quote[/b] ]well u should downgrade to Xp for starters I agree. I just built a system (X2 4600, 8500 GT, 2 GB DDR 800) on a super cheap budget for a friend. On XP Arma runs fine (1280x1024, normal settings). I wouldn't even attempt to run it with Vista just yet. Also, my old cpu... 3800 Athlon, 2 GB DDR 400, 7600 GT ran fine with XP (1400x900 normal to high settings), but barely ran with Vista. I'm not saying XP will make it fly, I'm just agreeing that it would run better than with Vista at the moment. Mosh
stun 5 Posted March 4, 2008 I have the same problem. whenever I am playing a mission with a very large number of units, even when they are not visible and are miles away, my frame rate goes to crap. i'm using a C2D e6400 with 2gigs of ram and and a 8800gt running xp. As far as i can tell the fps slow down is either caused by the cpu struggling to cope with all the units AI instructions or the arma engine is forcing my gfx card to render units that are not visible. I have noticed that when my fps drops it doesn't matter what graphics settings i change it barely makes a difference to the frame rate. hell i have tried putting everything on very low and i still only gain 1 fps. so i'm leaning towards the idea that it is the CPU that is the frame rate killer and not the gfx card. with my 8800gt i get high fps anywhere on sahrani with all high or very high settings, unless of course there are a large number of units in the mission i.e. CEX or the dyanamic war mission with all the features enabled. Comrade12 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Im thinking that a more powerful CPU will fix the problem. Need the processing power to get full use of a Graphics card.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 4, 2008 Its very easy to check if its your CPU limiting the FPS. Just play, put the game on pause (escape) and if your FPS goes up it is your CPU limiting the FPS, if it doesnt go up its your GPU.
OL 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Overclock that CPU! ArmA is awfully CPU limited.
-Puma- 2 Posted March 5, 2008 x2, dont know how many MHZ u are able to push from that AMD tho...
