Vietnam or Pacific Isle from BIS: Any Chance?

Recommended Posts

Ok, technical gameplay and/or political reasons aside...I was just curious to know how many of you might like to see an official release from BIS centered around either a Vietnam or Pacific Island theme.

...assuming arma's CQB attributes were improved for it, of course.

Am I the only one who would love to see this, or are there others who are also waiting?...lets hear some of your thoughts on the matter!

PS - Yes, I'm aware of the VTE addon...but im talking about an official BIS project, and not 3rd party in this case. I'm not crazy about the older weapon models and vast amount of config changes that vte offers, although the terrain is a much welcomed change of pace...and i think thats what im yearning for, a basic vanilla arma in rain forest, swamp, and rice field settings.

So....WOULD or SHOULD BIS release such an addon for Arma/Arma2?...would you buy it?

Vietnam? sure why not, i think arma engine is better suited for Vietnam or WW2. Its not capable of simulating modern hi-tec weapons systems (without complex scripts).

just my 2 cents biggrin_o.gif

They should work on getting ArmA itself compatable with some Graphic Cards, esp the 8800 problems many of my friends seem to have.

They should fix the bugs they have now and get some patch's going rather than working on a Vietnam or Pacific island (as nice as it would be).

As soon as they released ArmA, they commenced work on ArmA II.....thus leaving a very small portion of the work team to devise the improvements to ArmA we so despiratly need. confused_o.gif

thats ok, we'll just take his off-topic rant as a "YES"...since he DID say it would be nice to see this sort of addon.

Complex islands with much details, not too small area, are using many many man hours to be finished.

How do you think they have time for this as they work on ArmA 2? huh.gif

once again...completely off topic from what the thread is asking for.

What a shame...i was hoping this community would be above & beyond the usual forum antics, but perhaps i was mistaken.

If it's found that this thread cannot be simply kept on topic, then the moderator has my blessings to lock it if need be. I mean, geez, who has the friggen patience afterall.

Then we have the problem to overcome that the AI would be able to see you through alot of the vegetation but you wouldn't be able to see them.

An Island of this nature is alot of work, not just only the placing of objects but the required view lods to fix the AI xray problem.

Of course I am very interested in an Island of this nature, fitting Pacific theme

This sorta a request topic, I assumed it was an island in the works

edit: to add.. if Bis were making a Vietnam addon ,I would prepay for something like this.

Arma is well suited for Vietnam theme (asides the vegetation problem listed above)

that problem has been solved already with durgs vegetation fix...they no longer see you through bushes. But didnt you READ the VERY FIRST LINE of the original post?...it states technical gameplay reasons ASIDE.

Anyway...moderator please just delete this entire thread so it never existed...its a lost cause already since most replies are off topic and have ignored the original post. it's too quickly becoming rant fodder.

Thanks

If we want to see this, we would have to do it self.

It does not matter how hard we want it, as BIS is working on ArmA 2.

To answer the question clearly:

No, there absolutely no chance, that we get something like this from BIS. At least not for this game, maybe in an ArmA 2 expansion. huh.gif

Edit:

It is a known fact, that the setting of ArmA 2 not includes pacific isles. wink_o.gif

I would love to see a expansion or stand-alone like that, especially with a licensed soundtrack like what BFV had. WW2 would be very cool too. I cant see why it couldn't be done, im having a blast with Vilas ww2 units already biggrin_o.gif

threre are so few games on vietnam. prpbably because we lost that war.

only ones i can think of are vietcong 1&2 and a few low budget piece of crap titles. i would love to see a bad ass developer make a long ass vietnam game. at least as long as vietcong was. but not like cod4.

the bottom line is yes. and yes. im sure we all would want it.

you can never have too many shooting games.

There are no plans at present to make Vietnam or Pacific Isles themed games, for now it's the role of the community to make such things if requested smile_o.gif
