sounds good plasman I'll see what I can do with them...

its been hanging in the air since the beggining that the models would be used in the VTE mod but now its for sure, they will not be released as stand alone mod they will be used in VTE...

Well good news, actually I've just been contacted by Snake Man of VTE to join the team as well smile_o.gif

if all goes as planned I will get the new textures from Plasman tomorrow and I'll be finished with the first set of units...

then I'll move on the the special forces, I think I have come far enough to take the modeling to a higher level and I'm going to try that by some of the next units...

so yes VTE is a very promessing project and I think we are going to pick up some speed, I'm working on it for at least 12 hours a day... its really addicting...

May I recommend that you should use the units with rolled up sleeves?

You never see any Nam soldiers wearing their uniforms with the sleeves rolled down. It looks too formal.

Notice that 4 out of 5 of those guys have their sleeves rolled up.

Yes, i told him the same but i think (i don't have ex. with O2) that he has to pass the backpack and everything to the rolled up sleeves and maybe that is too complicated.

I could be without sleeves too, however that sounds too complicated :P

about the sleeves, I made units with both short and long sleeves, so It will be up to you what you prefer, the early war aircav had a formal uniform, and I belive that so did all other units, it wasn't before later in the war that they became more careless with drawings on the helmet and stuff, the sleeves were often short because of the heat, but show me a soldier that has walked through the bush with short sleeves and I'll show you a soldier that knows the meaning of regret, because that is a very bad idea.

but anyway I made a lot of different looking men, all with something that makes them uniqe, short or long sleeves, wet or dry, heavy or light equiped, nice uniform or messed up unifrom, some with nice clean helmets and some with writings on them...

If you want I can help you with the helmet. Not with the camo texture which looks perfect to me but I may add a few graffitis, patches, pins, if you wish. Just let me know.

I would need the helmet texture with some indication about where are the front, back, sides, up, down, and where is the helmet strap. If you could host it on filefront and pm me the link it would be nice.

I just noticed that I was accused if stealing jrr's models on opfnam.com, It's most likely just a mistake because some of the gear looks like jrr's work, thats because it was inspired by jrr, those were my favorite nam units for ofp, however I would like to make it perfectly clear that I did not steal anything from him and would of course not do anything without a permission, I just wanted to get that clear before more people think I stole anything...

Do you plan to change the normal-map so you can "model" the vlak-vest more realistically? And will you also change the mag-pouches to the correct ones? I'm not sure if that's possible, but I sure hope so. This looks very promising btw. So keep up the good work!!

I plan on changing the vest model infact it is changed slightly, the marines vest is slightly wider at the shoulder than the aircav's that I made smaller trying to make it look like their not wearing a vest at all...

ammo pouches and other stuff will properly not be in the first release, I'm starting to get the hang of o2 and I will get them done at some point but it make take a while

watching the progress i can see the huge improvements that have being made with these models . i remeber in ofp the unsung mod had some great variation of rifles, m14 etc.. maybe you could find some and add these to your units for variation?

its been a while since you got an update, the units are pretty much complete, just some small details here and there and some new helmet textures

in the mean time I started a side project making objects

this is the first complete model I made in o2, took me quite a while to figure it all out, but here it is...

I see some pretty serious stretching in the inner pillars, plus the whole thing is way too bright and clean. You need to add some plants and make it a bit more dirty, plus desaturate it somewhat.

I know, but remember this was my first model made completely from scratch, I will add some plants and stuff, the strech on the inner pillars is because I was lazy and used the same texture from the horizontal pillars on the vertical ones, the edges are all too pointy too, way the edgy for arma but this was just to learn, now I now my way arround o2 and can finally begin making some serious models...

The idea would be to have a different helmet for each squad member but I'd like to get some feedbacks first.

I know forum member SPC (sebastian muller) used a randomizer-script on addons of his so that he could have a random set of details on each unit. Perhaps you can use this on the helmet; using a set of textures and have them shown on units in a random fashion. That would be better than giving every machinegunner the same text on his helmet and every rifleman the same text ect ect.

I'm not sure if it can be done easily, but I just thought I'd share this with you. Perhaps a good feature for the future.

Thats a very good idea for sure.

I remember some OFP addons with the possibility to choose units patches/insignias, but frankly I don't know how they have been done.

I'm not sure it would be done easily either. Maybe some evenhandler stuff randomly choosing between several texture files? Definitely beyond my (poor) scripting skills. huh.gif
