boy soldier 0 Posted October 25, 2007 hi all, a word from the wise...I just spent 24 long hours without ARMA because of the latest drivers for the creative labs X-Fi soundcards. : ( ...Be very wary of this driver : SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_09_0007 I installed this driver and initially got crackle and generally bad sound. On exiting ARMA I was BSOD & system resart. Then only got unable to load ARMA from then on. I have fixed by Completely reloading all X-Fi Software fron scratch. Only after 4 attempts it's working ; ) so..........if your sound is ok.......don't fix it with this. B E W A R E
Dwarden 1125 Posted October 25, 2007 latest final official XP WHQL X-fi drivers are bit outdated  (it's build 1187) http://ccftp.creative.com/manuald....007.exe Latest WHQL Vista 32b/64b is build 1302 http://ccftp.creative.com/manuald....002.exe ! while latest beta drivers are build 1320, http://connect.creativelabs.com/beta/default.aspx * btw these drivers must be installed over official driver install and but there is also file SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0003.exe , build 1303 http://files2.europe.creative.com/manuald....003.exe * this file was 'withdrawn' from website for some reason (bugs i guess) also some people even with X-fi and Audigy 2 are pleased with this OEM driver set even if it's build 1201 http://forums.creative.com/creativ....&page=1 now there is new Vista driver 2.15.004 , build 1304 http://ccftp.creative.com/manuald....004.exe it's supposed to fix 4GB issues on Vista and some other problems ... CameronMcDonald 146 Posted October 25, 2007 If you don't mind me asking, Dwarden, what's the latest Audigy 2 driver build? Haven't updated mine since... well, March?
Dwarden 1125 Posted October 26, 2007 well latest should be that beta driver it's for both X-fi and Audigy 2 series
Eddie Haskel 0 Posted October 27, 2007 I have the same problem... WinXP SP2 Audigy SE Latest drivers from their site... and Armed Assault cracks and such. Tried Americas Army, works fine. Tried UFO: Extraterristrial, works fine... So appears to be a direct conflict between Armed Assault and Audigy SE direct, as other games, MP3s, etc are not affected. Any tips? Dwarden 1125 Posted October 28, 2007 just btw. got latest OpenAL ? and about cracking in most cases that's not game issue but driver / hardware issue (for more see creative labs forum)
baddo 0 Posted October 28, 2007 I know about OpenAL that when I updated it to the latest version, sounds in ArmA started cracking... I got WinXP 32-bit and Sound Blaster 128 card. Creative and OpenAL are closely related as I have understood, so maybe the problem has same roots.
kklownboy 43 Posted November 2, 2007 well latest should be that beta driverit's for both X-fi and Audigy 2 series and on the 7th of Nov what then....

Maddmatt 1 Posted November 3, 2007 sorry ? i don't get the post meaning ... The beta drivers expire on the 7th. There are newer ones that wont expire on the 7th, I don't know if they have an expiry date (why does Creative do this? ). You can get them here. Don't download the 'obsolete' ones, they are old. Dwarden 1125 Posted November 3, 2007 well tbh i dont remember expiry date of last beta set usually (late) CL releases new beta set lol anyway i really wish CL gets theirs acts together and finally sort theirs driver mess
dmitri 0 Posted November 4, 2007 It was the same with the Live! series. Creative produce good hardware but provide poor software\driver support. I've had posts deleted off their forums for simply asking for improved support.
Madus_Maximus 0 Posted November 4, 2007 They're in a strong position too, there isn't really any competition in terms of gaming sound hardware, they hold the monopoly, so they can get lazy. Monopolies always do that, and their product quality suffers as a result *coughvista*. They need to sort their drivers out asap!

StryDa 0 Posted November 7, 2007 I have an X-fi extreme music card. I have over a year old driver that works as every other driver I have used results in numerous BSOD. Their hardware is great their drivers are useless.
Maddmatt 1 Posted November 7, 2007 I have an X-fi extreme music card. I have over a year old driver that works as every other driver I have used results in numerous BSOD. Their hardware is great their drivers are useless. I also get the odd BSOD. Doesn't happen very often. Mostly when changing mods (like from game mode to entertainment mode). The hardware is also actually pretty crap. Their was a discussion on their forums a while ago about the cheap junk capacitors they use which are apparently responsible for various problems Maybe we'll see some competition soon thanks to OpenAL and it's replacement for EAX (can't remember the name, just saw it mentioned a while ago).
