walker 0 Posted October 3, 2007 Hi all This has been mentioned several times but I think It needs a proper mention in its own thread. Several servers are now using Teamspeak/Ventrilo to set up public server and curtail TK/Cheating/Griefing. One good trick is to include your Teamspeak server address in your server ID for ArmA. In order to get access to the ArmA server you need the password which you can only get via Teamspeak/Ventrilo. It is also very easy to switch password and ban people via IP in Teamspeak. Voices are hard to disguise. Â Kind Regards walker
Jack-UK 0 Posted October 3, 2007 Good idea i guess.. but remember, they only need to hop on TS/Vent, get the pass and then wreak havok. Will certainly slow down/put off some cheaters though. Best way i've found to prevent cheating, vote yourself admin. Kick ALL 10 digit id's, they've been confirmed illegal so either they havent payed for the game, or they're cheaters using a key changer to play. Dont give them the chance to load into the game, as soon as someone connects type #userlist , he/she should be at the bottom, count the digits, if 10 or greater, #kick cheating_scum I just wish more servers would lower the voting requirement for admin MCY's Gay Bar is good, a cheater wreaked havok cause we didnt have an admin, two votes in a game with at least 15ish players and i had admin, i kicked all 10 digit ID's, i dont care whether they're cheating or not. Cause they aint payed for the game whatever happens.
BraTTy 0 Posted October 3, 2007 Good idea for sure. 'cept that I don't really like chatting. Serious gamer in my time , I don't believe in running extra programs. If my wife ever plays , I don't like what the chat leads to (have had problems) Males are hounds on internet when it comes to females I do however have teamspeak installed and would use it if I have to
-Total- 0 Posted October 3, 2007 My wife used to play America's Army with me and was on TS. Yeah, it could get a little racey, but she learned to take it in stride and was soon considered "one of the guys"
SeppSchrot 0 Posted October 4, 2007 We've been using the NoSpeak->NoGame paradigm for years now. Given that we still have no ban list (lack of need) I am very happy with this solution. But I do not think this will fit to any clan/community. Because it depends of the type of games you play. We center around CTI and similar long hour rounds so we do not allow JIP anyway. Though it may be difficult for games like Berserk where people come and go as they like. (And play with this attitude as well )
RN Escobar 0 Posted October 5, 2007 i'm sure the guys at MCY just love u voting in as admin and kicking people willy nilly. don't get me wrong i'm not against having an admin on a server but some guys just don't deserve it, i've seen voted in admins ruin the name of a good server by kicking th players that are regulars on that server just cause they don't like them. and saying the servers should lower the vote threshold works both ways, who's to say that someone of low moral values isn't gonna get admin? SeppSchrot 0 Posted October 5, 2007 And this is why every decent game server has a website URL in the welcome message. If regulars have to complain, they know where they can so the server staff can conduct appropriate actions.
walker 0 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi all Guys you are going off-topic I think The process is simple 1) Get Teamspeak/Ventrilo 2) Place Teamspeak/Ventrilo address in server name 3) Set password for server 4) Give out server password verbally via Teamspeak/Ventrilo to those who join the server and who converse allowing you to look for known voices. 5) Teamspeak has its own functions to ban IP addresses 6) When someone joins they get password if they cause problems kick, ban IP address, Log activity to report to police if necessary, change server password, continue without cracker. 7) Repeat from 3 until cracker runs out of IP addresses or gets bored. Most of us can recognise voices but you can use speaker recognition software if you want. Here is a free Speaker recognition tool: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/resource/sfs/wasp.htm Speaker recognition, or voice recognition is the task of recognizing people from their voices. Such systems extract features from speech, model them and use them to recognize the person from his/her voice. You can read more about the subject here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_recognition There are several links Please remember who you let play is the Admins choice; only activity the server host admin authorises are permitted it is their server and their rules. SeppSchrot 0 Posted October 5, 2007 *lol* at the voice recognition software. We are discussing ways to keep harassers away from our servers, not how to protect the Crown Jewels of the UK.
walker 0 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi all In reply to SeppSchrot They maybe nuts and that might be a sledgehammer but we as a community do intend to crack them. Kind Regards walker
SeppSchrot 0 Posted October 5, 2007 Of course. But don't lose commensurability. It's just that you should keep security measures as easy as possible. Because otherwise it just distracts you from the serious security holes. Always critically compare the value you protect against the amount of work you burden yourself to do so. That said, I doubt a voice recognition via software is appropriate to merely protect a game.
DBO_ 0 Posted October 5, 2007 *lol* at the voice recognition software. We are discussing ways to keep harassers away from our servers, not how to protect the Crown Jewels of the UK. lol reminded me of this lmfao Modern speech recognition and a use for On topic ,its a god idea but imagine those loony cheaters coming to your ts and screaming like kiddies , is it worth paying the price or sould it all just be done by real registering at a website or something ? BLSmith2112 0 Posted October 6, 2007 If you've got a small group of regulars, get them all on teamspeak and let only few in at a time. If cheats are apparent, kick all of the new guys out and weed em' out one by one - Hard but feasible.
-DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted October 6, 2007 Im sorry Victor, but your voice does not compute. Please present yourself to the mouse fingerprint scanner for verification. ... ... BEEP BEEP BEEP ! INTRUDER ALERT ! # exec ban Victor
Maddmatt 1 Posted October 6, 2007 On topic ,its a god idea but imagine those loony cheaters coming to your ts and screaming like kiddies , is it worth paying the price or sould it all just be done by real registering at a website or something ? Just right click the loser in TS and click mute. You don't need to be an admin or anything, it just prevents you from hearing that person. It's a simple way to deal with them and if everyone does it then it just leaves them screaming on their own like the idiots they are
ModaFlanker 0 Posted October 7, 2007 I applaud getting rid of those damned cheats... But, ugh. I'm deaf. I wear a hearing aid, but have a hard time decoding speech. Whats the password? "xxx8zcvdfi03" Uh, can you repeat that? "jfioepwaop" Ummm... "gjiopgehuoie" Sigh.. I'll find another server.
SeppSchrot 0 Posted October 7, 2007 I am sorry it doesn't work for you. But I do not see any reasons why you shouldn't be able to say: "I have difficulties understanding you, would you mind writing it in the TS chatbox?" If they do not care, they probably weren't worth your (play)time anyway.
