Above the recommended specs

Recommended Posts

My specs are:

Athlon 64 x2 3800+

2 gigs DDR ram (can upgrade to 4 gigs)

x1650 Radeon 512 mb with latest driver

120 gig HDD.

XP SP2

patched to 1.08

I just built this rig hoping it would run ArmA half decent, but no joy. Running at normal with a steady 30 FPS would make me happy, even in 1024x768, although my native res is 1440x900.

Would more ram help? can I tweak the game to take advantage of the 2 processors? dedicate 1 CPU to ArmA somehow?

Thanks for any help

BB

No to both, I'm afraid.

Your HDD isn't huge. How much free space is there?

I have almost exactly the same specs and run in 1024×768 with everything on normal, AF on high, AA on low. (FPS 25-60 / forest-desert)

Tried the 7.6 drivers? Those work fine for me.

(Oh, and i have +-2gb free tounge2.gif )

91 gb free.

91 free? Hehehe, you have XP, ArmA and nothing else installed! smile_o.gif

OK, the HDD has plenty of room then. What chipset is the motherboard?

Above the recommended specs? Above the min specs you mean don't you?

You didn't say whether your video card was a XT or Pro because Tomshardware isn't showing the performance of the regular x1650

But its 128-bit and only a 60$ video card

Mine runns real bad too.

I have an intel core due 2.2, 2Gig ram and an ATI x1650se.

Not great i know, but should run better than having all setting on low/medium.

AntiA = Dissabled

Anistropic = Dissabled

and I've even turned the blood off!

It's a monster of a game, for sure.  God help us when ArmA2 comes out.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have Vista Home Prem...

Ok, I bought an ATI x1950pro 256, ArmA now runs great! high settings. Only bummer was I had to buy a new power supply also. But who cares, the battle to get a good running ArmA is over!

I have the same proccesser I just bought like you.  Wait till ARMA 2 and we will have to upgrade again just to barely run it.  I paid $1,200 so I could run ARMA.  Lot's of lag with everything on very low.  Still my favorite game that I cannot stop playing.

AMDX2 3800

1gigddr2 RAM

ATI 1950XT 512mb

Vista 32-bit. (I'm sure this what is causing it)

Vista is known to have 15-25 % lesser performance in current games compared to XP.

SimHQ XP vs. Vista shootout 2007

In case of the topic starter I would suggest a general tweaking of the OS.

With a little tweaking I was able to play ArmA with decent frames on normal setting w. 1500m view distance on a AthlonXP 3200+, 1024MB DDR RAM, EVGA 7800GS 256 MB.

As far as ArmA 2 goes, at least there is the option to get the Xbox360 version.

In fact everything, from BIOS to virtual memory handling.

Just look for tweaking guides in the internet and experiment with it.

Hmmm...I'll try it out.

I still might put XP back on though.

crazy_o.gifcrazy_o.gif Arrgg!!!

I can't put XP on!! It's all gone to pot! Windows wont allow an older version to be installed over a newer version, so I made a small partition, but my XP disk must be faulty. PC gives the Blue screen of Death!! Barg!

How about going through the hotfixes for Vista?

Btw, you using an XP cd with SP2 Integrated? If not, get your hands on such cd or create one by slipstreaming it into it (google).

Sickboy,

Thanks.

I had a look at the thread you pointed out, but it seems to be for nVidia as well as Vista

Do you know if there is an ATI fix too?

Or if i run the Vista Fix, will it still work?
