About ppl bashing the physics:

They arent that bad, but a lot is missing. (friction being the most anoying)

If you talk about friction on bullets flying, it IS currently implemented and works fine. Damage works accordingly. It's vastly improved compared to OFP in that department.

EDIT : About a common standard for different addon teams : it has been done, discussed, teared apart to death for years in OFP (CAVS being one of the avatars of these fertile discussions) but never lead to a truely unified banner, and it is perfectly NORMAL.

Each team/addonmaker has his own point of view and wishes for what they/he want to achieve. This will always lead to discrepencies.

The only way to have something unified is to have a common design goal behind ALL addons used and a common point of view. That means a common head behind everything. This happens only in the case of MODS. This is why supporting FDF or ACE is the way to go, imho.

The only problem with HL2 is the maps. And vehicle use.

Yes, but think of Red Orchastra, it had very good vihicles, but it did not have airplanes and helos, but if they can get cars, tanks, trucks. I guess it may be more difficult, but if you can get cars and trucks to work, then prehaps you can get helos and airplanes. I dont think anyone has really tried it, ive seen a few CS mods that have helos and stuff, but that was using the old HL1 engine.

But ya, the maps are a bit small too. Once again RO had pretty decent sized maps, no where near as big as ArmAs, but then again ArmAs maps are like 1/8 the size of JOTRs maps. And JOTR could support up to 150 players on the server, with tanks, helos and the like.

I was talking about friction between to surfaces (eg your feet and a car roof)

To be honest, Arma's death animations are fine the way they are. You seen games like Max Payne 2, or Battlefield 2, the way the bodies lie is just... stupid. Battlefield 2 is the worst for it. Constandly these PoD's on filefront sites of the Battlefield 2 ragdolls in stupid positions. Bores me.

uhm JOTR maps are ~64km square and visiblity range is ~1km by default ?

You trying to say it can match ArmA square 400km with ~10km viewdistance ?

not to mention ArmA terrain streaming allows maps x times bigger (let say only limit is HDD size and maybe memory addressing)

To handle that many players, JOTR's netcode was hideous and stripped down like BF's.

Bad netcode's the stuff of nightmares. *shudder*

Put a one of them little portable radios on a map and shoot it several times with a rifle, pistol, whatnot. It will flipflopflippidflop, i.e. do some wierd spinning and jumping, only to get back to its original state with its bottom glued to the ground as if it has some super-magnet on that side. Physics? Hm. confused_o.gif

Yeah there are quite few objects like that,that i would like to have destroyed in missions!
