Adding buildings

Recommended Posts

In my oppinion the in-game editor is a piece of junk as while it may be as powerfull as a Cray 2 it is as user friendly as one. That, however, is for another day. My main problem is that I want to add a hanger where there is no pre-existing hanger and have no clue how to manipulate non-editor objects.

Thanks in advance wink_o.gif

you need an editor upgrade addon. it adds the buildings/trees/whatever into our INCREDIBLY EASY TO USE editor.

@F16: you mean, it's too hard for you to double-click onto the map to place objects and then to select from a normal drop-down box what kind of object you want? And then pressing 'Preview' ?

Lol, wake up the 80s are long gone. welcome.gif

This is arguably the most powerful, easy-to-use editor I have ever experienced. So we should blame the tool and not the user. Don't expect much help with your attitude. If the editor is too hard for you to use now, I wouldn't expect anything we tell you to be of any benefit: even if we spoon-fed it.

No offense F-16. But this is no doubt, the easiest editor I have ever used.

And the answer to your question is the Editor Update V102 by Lowfly. Atleast thats what I use.

It contains ALL the buildings, trees, rocks, bushes.... everything

the easiest editor I have ever used.

It could be better though. We effectively work by dropping items onto the map. I'd like to be able to drop them onto game terrain.

Do you mean a "Real time" editor?

Isn't some modder working on a real time editor system

already? I seem to recall seeing a video (unless it was

another hallucination)

I'm sorry to upset those who are in love with the editor and I dont mean the initial interface. My problem with the editor lies in the fact almost everything usefull has to be scripted. Its fine for basic stuff but the scripting is a nightmare. It seems like some twisted c based language that i cant seem to find any usefull guides on. I never said it wasn't powerfull by the way. whistle.gif

Funny thing I prefer the scripting , the triggers are harder for me

Oh, sorry, we thought your problem was that you wanted to

place a hangar, not to write scripts. We were probably misled

by these words; "My main problem is that I want to add a

hanger where there is no pre-existing hanger"

And it's "hangar" , not "hanger"  whistle.gif

www.ofpec.com tuts

I'd start with these basic tuts, they may be old, but mostly work for ArmA too. (there are hardly any real basic scripting tuts for ArmA)

However, remember this: IT'S NOT THE TOOL THAT MAKES YOU CREATIVE

or in other words: if you can't do anything 'useful' in the mission editor, you won't have much better chances with scripting.

Good ideas are good ideas. 90% of your ideas can be done in the editor directly in one way or another. Just try it and if it doesnt work, make a thread where you tell us your idea, how you tried to make it work and where the problem is. You'll get helpful comments, i'm pretty sure of that.

Scripting for OpF/ArmA was never a real programming language, it was opened/added later for the core fans.

The situation was far worse at the beginning, nowadays we got lots of old tuts and the Wiki which should be enough to get something going.

For my part i can say that when i got problems to script something, the real problem is that i have no idea what i'm trying to accomplish and just scripting around a bit. That doesn't work. You need a good idea and a concept. Pen & paper is all you need. Afterwards i'd ask around if something like that has been done in a mission before and dePBO that mission to look into the scripts. It's best to learn from examples.

Amen. tounge2.gif
