ArmA Effects

By backwards compatible I mean, if I have a mission that uses a previous version, will it still work, without error messages?

Calling of scripts still the same code and all that.

Why don't some effects show on 1.08. The other versions are still beta's and plenty of people still play 1.08

It should work fine on 1.08. Although I only tested it on 1.12. What exactly doesn't work on 1.08?

Of course it will still work. It's an effects mod, just like with sound mods, missions don't need it to work. It doesn't affect game-play or add any mission-specific stuff.

No mission will 'use' it in that way.

Hi Maddmatt !

Thanks for this last (?) update, I like it. It seems to run very nice with little to no impact on FPS. I like the sparks and the rain ! Firefights during a storm at night are something to see smile_o.gif

F'ing A. Just had an early morning brawl, platoon of 1ID heavies and a platoon of VDV on Schmalfelden during a thunderstorm. You could see the sparks skipping off the enemy when their guns cop a stray round, and grenades have never looked so good! Just wish my grenadiers could aim... sad_o.gif

what you plan to make for arma further?

When I'm back online around July I'll probably carry on with work for the ACE mod.

Depends on how things go around here and in my own life smile_o.gif

It was said that the big sparks only fly when bullets hit a soldiers weapon. Okay... I can dig with that...

But can someone please tell me why when I shoot unarmed (meaning NO WEAPON) civilian... sparks fly the same? huh.gif

I just went shooting at loads of civilians with an M249 to test that. I saw no sparks, only blood huh.gif

But then I had an idea... I went to the video options and disabled blood to see what happens wow_o.gif

So go into your video options and turn blood back on!

I'm really thankful that this mod exists because it used to amaze me how many shots it would take to kill a prone enemy. Now the sparks give me the insight that I'm not hitting the soldier, I'm hitting his weapon instead.

Well that would depend on many things. You need to give a little more info if we can figure out that answer. Are you trying the Mod on it's own? other addons/mods? Did you keep it in it's own mod folder? By itself or are other addons in the the AE mod folder?

What about the latest drivers for all that hardware? What version of ArmA are you using?

I could go on but let's work on that for now. If you got the time to provide this info it will be much easier and quicker to help you out.

In general though, there should not be any reason this mod causes a CTD.

Did you keep it in it's own mod folder? By itself or are other addons in the the AE mod folder?

What about the latest drivers for all that hardware? What version of ArmA are you using?

It's in it's own folder, I've got latest drivers for everything, I'm running 1.14.

Have you tried using only the ArmAEffects and no other mods? From what I know about the FX, they merely replace existing particle effects so they shouldn't be causing anything but prettier explosions. It's highly unlikely that they would be causing freezes, unless they are creating additional load which your comp can't handle for some reason.

What about just ArmAEffects on it's own, as MadDogX mentioned? As far as I know his assessment is correct. If you got the system specs with the latest drivers as you put forth, you should be able to run AE with out incident.

Also, have you tried to run the game with "-maxmem=512" in the target line of the shortcut? Something like this:

"D:\Games\ArmA\arma.exe -nosplash -mod=lowplants;@TrueMods;@SIX_Pack1 -maxmem=512"

Try this just in case. I had a similar problem with previous ArmA patches, but the CTD sometimes went back to the Desktop and gave that damn "Out of Memory" error as well as the blackscreen that required a PC restart.

I had Out of Memory errors too when I disabled -maxmem in my shortcut. These errors stopped appearing when I turned it on again... so I recommend adding it smile_o.gif

Hi, this is the shortcut that i use to use for play to the ArmA in SP

or in MP:

"C:\ArmA\arma.exe -mod=DBE1;@ArmAEffects;@Replacement;@SIX_Pack1;@USMC;lowplants; -nosplash"

I've never had any CTD, blue screen, black screen or had to reboot

the computer due to the ArmAEffects mod; it's true that i have 'em,

but not because of the ArmAEffects, i'll blame the last ArmA patch,

that has brought back some errors that wasn't there with the v1.08.

With that short cut im able sometimes to play by 5 hours... and

other times, i just can play like 30mins before that the ArmA CTD.

Try adding -maxmem=512 or more (test performance in cities smile_o.gif)... it has cured my ArmA of CTD's :P
