Arma crash on start up, i want to cry

Recommended Posts

Ok, reinstalled Arma from scratch to install the new 1.08.

Started vanilla 1.08, and worked fine, admitedly it took a few attempts to install cleanly.

Installed fdf 1.1, now I get the screen, Arma has encountered a problem.

So I restarted my pc, and checked again, bang, same problem.

So i opened arma by directly clicking the arma.exe file, and still the same problem.

Deleted the fdf folder, and still getting the same problem.

This game is doing my head in, had now for over a month, and I have spent more time fixing and fidling, than playing.

Please someone tell me the simple fix, I can not be bothered to uninstall everying, install the patches, and then play the game with no mods, incase it all self destructs.

wah wah, im crying.

I have the same problem but did countless full uninstalls and reinstalls. The one thing that bothers me is how something can mess up my install when it isn't even there.

It shouldn't have modified anything. That's a weird problem. Perhaps the initial crash corrupted something.

maybe try to delete everything related to arma?? profile and config folder..

arma profiles can be found: username's documents\arma profiles

i went a bit crazy, i reformated my hard disc, and installed xp and arma again.

I backed up the entire drive onto 3 dvds, and arma works, but with no addons.

Im going to try and install a mod later, if it doesnt work, im going to go back to my back up and play with no mods.

me too. got "out of memory" errors all the time with 1.08 running at low settings. tried to reinstall, tested memory, installed a RAM booster. No effect. deleted my arma configs. seemed (!wink_o.gif to work. new install: now I got "arma encountered a problem"-CTDs with 1.07 and 1.08. 1.05 worked fine. new installs, "maxmem", pagefile corrections and much more: no effect! installed new Nvidia driver beta: a miracle! it worked all the way. 1 week later, once again "out of memory" all the time. can't start arma. now what's the matter? didn't change anything! NO hardware changes, NO strange behaviour with other programs, NO hardware issues, and: NO new addons, NO changes in settings whatsoever. It just stops to work. Arma patch 1.08 sucks big time. And I don't know what to do next to get in once again running. Seems to work only for some time, no idea why. already posted a bug report the last time

I'm kinda suprised to read the CTD problems, as I haven't had a CTD since 1.08 and in 1.05 I got cannot create memory surface only 2 or 3 times huh.gifhuh.gif

"out of memory"-CTD solved !?

As I mentioned, last time I had this, a complete erase of configs helped. Now guess what: this time, too! Delete your arma-configs in "Your documents"-folder to do the trick. Give it a try. Unfortunately I didn't look further into what lines in the config should be deleted, but deleting only the video settings did not help. Maybe it's related to all those entries like/with "BIS_LIB_VEH blabla". Is this for the "armoury"-function? If yes, might this be a clue to the problem? (1.05 did not have this feature).

Hi, I hope this will work for you, because it worked for me.. this problem almost made me go crazy, but here is my solution...

Simply go to your WINDOWS folder, from there to the system32 folder. There you should find a file named nvopenal.dll, copy it away.. (or delete it but it's safer this way..) Then go to

http://developer.creative.com/article....&aid=46

download and install the latest open Al version..

then Arma should start! Hopefully this worked for you!

(If OpenAl won't install and say that it's already in use, or something like that, don't remember what it said anymore.. anyway, there is a solution to it.. If I remember correctly you have to go to the system32 folder and rename the file OpenAL32.dll to OpenAL32.old and then rename the OpenAL32.new file to OpenAL32.dll. That should do it. But a word of warning tough, I'm no expert, I found it on the web so if you make backups or verify that this works.)

Is it possible that you are using 4Gb Ram?

I've had ArmA running just fine with 1.08 and fdf1.1 but I encountered last week an unusual problem. I changed my DDR from 2Gb to 4Gb and made a change into boot.ini file.

(adding the PAE switch aka adding "/3Gb" switch into the boot file)

After this when I started ArmA it just disappeared and I thought "wtf" and started again....same thing...then I realized when checking resources that I had two ArmA games running silently on background... crazy_o.gif

I removed the /3Gb switch and now game is running hunky dory again... Most strange thing though.. firefoxlover.gif

@basti: I'm not sure who you meant that for but I'll give it a try also. When I said complete uninstall I also meant deleting everything related to Arma in my documents and all.

@ahmedjbh

I had the exact same problem with US Demo some time ago. No addons or anything. The only way for me to solve it was to reinstall.

It didn't work. I'm completely confused. not sure how something that isn't on my computer is messing up new installs. I may just go for a refund and buy a copy of OFP.
