so how do you pronounce the island??

Recommended Posts

minor gripe here. got a friend who says brake "CAP"ilers..rather than brake "CAL"ipers. i keep correcting him..but apparently thats the way his dad said it..so its stickin..

anyways. for the island ...isnt it pronounced "SAH-RANI"huh.gif

cause the "william porter" actor, keeps saying sah-"HA"-RANI. gets on my nerves. but damn its annoying. as a joke i keep telling myself "there is nothing "funny" in the middle of sahrani" (as both the region, targets, and spelling.)

minor indeed tounge2.gif

but think about it, the closest real world nomenclature for Sahrani can be easily related to Sahara, both the dry\desertic landscape and the spanish cultural heritage, names of towns, language, etc, so at least to me it makes a lot of sense, an hipothetycal island off the Sahara coast somewhere in the South Atlantic maybe even further Southwest offshore from the Canaries or Cape Vert Islands (nevermind the north part of the island, it feels as if it should be another separate island on another point of the globe, a geographical glitch, or a late addition if you will)

Isn't it a silent H? Their is no A after the H, so the way Porter pronounces it doesn't seem right.

well in the game the file is named sahrani and the pbo is sara

Asuming it's Arabic, it should sound something like this

Now.. *ahem* icon_redface.gif to any Arabic speakers out there I apologize for the crappy pronunciation, it's the best my verbal skills can do.

For (possibly) better reference, here's a song that's called Sahrani.

I would wager Sarah is one of the programmers girlfriend/wives or child and he named the island after her.

I pronounce it with a hard H, like SA-KHRANI, KH being a "hard" H

I pronounce it purely as someone whose first language is english would... ie. sahRANi... S'ranny. The h would sort of emphasize the first syllable, though.. So in english meter it would sound like SAHrani... SAr'nny. It gives it the character of the word 'irony' or something. Then you can just emphasize both syllables, making it sound like SAH-RANNY. I haven't heard anyone pronounce it like Sa-rainy or anything like that...

The Sa H Ranni that sounds werid.

I say it the way Jerry Hooper Does

sahRANi... [s'ranny]

Say the S with the sound of a H [baby lanuage H]

Well, I just pronounce it SaHRANI.

I don't really mind if it's good or wrong, as long people know what I'm talking about wink_o.gif .

thx for the input. i assumed that it if was going to be more of a middle eastern pronunciation, it would be with a heavy "H" (like how DEADMEAT says it ) or a slight "d" to it.

minor irk indeed, but it grates me when i here it with the "HA".

much like fingernails on blackboard. crazy_o.gif

i tend to pronounce the names of cities in the game as somewhere between middle eastern and italian. that seems to work well.

e.g. i pronounce "paraiso" with soft letters in the middle in a flowing way.

as for "sahrani" i pronounce it with an h somewhere between the hard h and the silent one, similar to middle eastern languages.

Porter's a yank so therefore pronounces it incorrectly to atagonise the locals. Just listen to how most Americans pronounce Iraq!

Yeah Americans do not pronounce everything correctly all the time, even names of places in the United States.

EU version people do not have the benefit of the Combat Ops cutscenes to help us pronounce it either biggrin_o.gif

There are tons of places in Sahrani that can be pronounced about seventeen different ways. Example, Paraiso.

"Pair-EE-so"

"Pah rah EYE zo"

"Par Aeh so"

Masbete? Bagango? Ahhhhhh!

'ParaEEso', 'Sah raani' and 'bagango' <-Let the 'microsoft sam default voice' say them, its more or less like i would say it.

I guess Masbete is pronounced as 'Masbèt' (like its french).

EDIT: Awesome, the forum cant make an e with a ` on top... rofl.gif
