Disable Head Bob?

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I've tried Armed Assault, but the head bob/sway effect makes me motion sick. Is there any way to disable this via a console command or patch?

Thanks very much

What do you mean by head bob? The head movement in the animations seems very natural to me (if that's what you mean), I don't understand the problem...

There's a head bob? I thought Arma's heads were always locked to some invisible horizon.

:S

Maybe the loose crosshair that moves about your screen is what you're talking about?

If you're talking about when you walk around with iron sites, download the 1.05 patch.

How do I describe Head Bob... The world bouncing up and down when you run. Our brains tend to filter these movements out, but some games are essentially simulating what would result if you recorded video with a camera attached to your head.

I would prefer the option to have the Head Bob be turned down or disabled. When completely disabled and traversing a smooth surface, it has the appearance of being on skates or driving.

While I appreciate the nice character animations, they can remaing, but the the bobbing or swaying motion in any FPS makes me sick. It is often possible to disable this feature.

Thanks

He's talking about the motion of the character's head when he jogs. There is quite a lot of movement there. In order to turn it off, I'm afraid you would need to alter the character animations, since the camera uses a node on the model for reference.

i never have such issus even with TIR,

but if you get motion sickness in a game with the min rate of swaying/ bumping body movement, its hard to image how sick you get in games like stalker confused_o.gif

...except that with STALKER, you have the ability to disable head bob and sway with a mod or console command. That is the reason I am playing it right now instead of Armed Assault.

Thanks!

Oh well... Hey Developers! Please add the option to disable Head Bob and Sway. My friends and I won't be buying this (or any) game where this is not possible.

Thanks!

You try a war game in which you have to turn your characters head fast, spin helicopters and jets and sometimes swerve like crazy at the wheel to dodge bullets and you complain about motion sickness? Am I the only one who see's a bit of irony here?

I think it would be best you just avoid war type games altogether if you get motion sickness from fast movements.

Oooh, that ship looks fun, I'd be more worried about sliding around to be honest.

now this time dont be so uptight

back on topic

no its not that easy, as very movement of your body is tight to you model, your eyes are fixed on your ingame head, if you want them to came apart, you need to complete redo the model, the system, etc, which is

1:quite a waste of time

2:impractical as hell

3:wouldnt get happy hardcore fans, which is who those buy the game and doesnt drop it

Stalker's animations are crap. Really robotic. Please do not touch the animations.

Greetings,

I'm not one of the developers of this game, but I have observed the following: the view in this game is not necessarily determined by the head position, character model, or animations. These are separate processes and would not require any changes.

If you use the NUM Enter key to change to a third person view, then run, the world doesn't jump up and down as it does in the first person viewpoint. If you press the NUM + key it moves the camera closer to the soldier. To me, this means that camera position can be freely placed around the character, or even anchored to a part of the character model. The camera position is probably defined as the distance from a point or axis, and as such, can probably be adjusted by altering the distances. The Third Person camera would be just right if I could move the camera to just in front of the soldier's head.

I have not need for an actual Third Person camera.

If it is not already in the game, it appears to me that adding an additional view mode such as "First Person without Head Bob" would require little effort.

Yeah I guess my response was a rather hostile, its been one of those days but that doesn't make it right for snapping, so I apologize.

And your idea is good neurokrash but if you are thinking of moving the characters third person camera into their head so it doesn't bob then you would have to have a copy of the model, for SP this doesn't seem like a big issue but for MP it may cause a few problems.

The headbob bothers me, too. I don't expect that sort of thing when I'm walking or running, so it just drives me up the wall.
