Mechs 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Hello everyone, I just recently bought a HIS X1650 Pro ICEQ to replace my old Radeon 9550. I just wanted a cheap upgrade so I could play ArmA with a decent FPS. The problem is that my X1650 is not running the game much better. In open areas, it only average 17-19 FPS. In the cities it drops to around 10, and this is on the lowest settings (Which my 9550 overclocked was doing just a couple of Framerates worse). I have tried everything to get it to run better, but to no avail. I'm about to send the card back, but, before I go through the trouble of doing that, I wanted to ask for the opinion of people more knowledgeable than me on this subject. So I ask, what is up with this crazy thing? System Specs: AMD Athlon 3200+ (2.2 GHz) HIS X1650 Pro ICEQ 256MB AGP 1GB PC-2700 333MHz
swtx 42 Posted April 12, 2007 I was thinking of getting a X1650 Pro myself. What driver version are you using? Are you having any trouble running the game? Any blue screens corrupt textures, etc?
jackass888 0 Posted April 12, 2007 get an 7600gt.. its almost the same price(sparkle) and has better performance. but yeah 10fps in cities are too low. whats your settings and do other games work ok? if only arma is running slow its no use to send it back. if the shop guys are lazy idiots theill give you a new card but that wont change anything. jordan_dj21 0 Posted April 12, 2007 I have a Sapphire X1650 pro and did have loads of problems (like shocking FPS, loads of texture corruption), however since changing drivers from Catalyst 7.2 to 6.7 and installing ATI Tray tools instead of CCC i'm getting much better performance. The texture corruption is only slightly visible now and FPS averages between 15-25 in cities and 20-40 elsewhere. I have all settings on normal except texture and objects on low and visibility on 1600. A HIS is better than a sapphire so you should be able to play smoothly . Install ATI tray tools and manually overlock your card to the recommended limit. Put all settings on either performance or application controlled.
thr0tt 12 Posted April 12, 2007 Why go for a 1650 ? 1950 is a better card and not much more either. As per previous post I changed processor and now run the game smoothly, some very minor slow downs in heavby firefights.
Hostilian 11 Posted April 12, 2007 Thats the problem with cheap upgrades for games that have a high hardware requirement. They're generally a waste of time! I replaced my old ATI 9800 with a x1950 - An absolute bargain at 120 pounds. It's more than two times the speed of the 1650. Too late to return your 1650, I assume? #C

System Specs: AMD Athlon 3200+ (2.2 GHz) HIS X1650 Pro ICEQ 256MB AGP 1GB PC-2700 333MHz I can never fully understand why so many people with a older card or a budget card (ex. X1650), can't quite seem to grasp the fact that they have poor preformance. Look mate, if you "hard up" for playing this game with excellent frame-rates and maxed out visuals, then go out and pick up a 7900 series or a Radeon equivalent. If you're not all that concerned with a low FPS count, then stick with what you've got. FYI - My situation was totally different. I actually had to downgrade from a X1900 XTX, to a 7900 GS OC to actually get a preformance boost. I now run the game with everything maxed out and at around 70 FPS... or atleast I did before 1.05. Dwarden 1125 Posted April 13, 2007 main mistake was to buy X1650pro instead x1650xt x1650pro = x1600xt renamed (and maybe some MHz bump) while x1650xt is stripped down x1950pro yet ~2 times faster than x1650pro i'm sorry

HDR =16 AA disable. aa off and 1024x768, you should then get super smooth gameplay, you lose some eye candy but should still be fun while you save for a big GPU etc. i found years ago the mid range cards run game ok but AA was something to avoid the best in the series cards are for that. For ARMA using the beta these are my general settings using a 8800 GTX for MP and SP, I get super fast 60 FPS almost no slow down or lag ever but I have had to fine tune settings since 105. VD 5km 1600x1024 16:9 Terrain LOW Object detail LOW Texture NORMAL Shaders NORMAL Post Process HIGH* Anis Filter HIGH Shadows VERY HIGH AA LOW BLOOD LOW I can knock some settings higher but I can also start to slow below 60 FPS because of PP HIGH I have found shadows have almost no effect on the 8800 GTX on very high but terrain detail shaders and object detail in the new beta can slow the system when flying or sniping etc. For me this gives nice eye candy and super smooth gameplay. Anything but a top end card AA is a no no, and so is post process. Shadows may generally be avoided as well. Tune things down turn up VD and enjoy.
