-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted April 1, 2007 Indeed, you got it right, it's the Caproni Stipa... with a Tiger Moth's Gipsy engine in it, it had apparently less performance as a ducted prop, than the conventional shape of the aircraft alone! Ran, you're up!
ran 0 Posted April 1, 2007 What is this a profile of ? beware though, it was just a project which didn't materialise, no operationnal vehicle, no prototype.

Sc@tterbrain 0 Posted April 4, 2007 RHINO - 37-ton (loaded) armored bus. Cost - $275,000 Armour - "...can take an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) hit without it even mussing the passengers' hair." Manufacturer - Florida company under the name "RhinoRunner." Deployment - Used to ferry people from the Iraq airport to the "Green zone." How it got the name - Priceless "They call it that because it looks like a rhinoceros."

Sc@tterbrain 0 Posted April 5, 2007 GJ ran, you are correct.  Its the Piasecki VZ-8P Airgeep aka  Army flying jeep experiment. If anyone cares: The Piasecki Model 59H was the one of three winners of the Army's "Flying Jeep" competition, and the only one to be field tested. In 1957, U.S. Army launched the flying jeep program. Piasecki submitted their model and was awarded contract for the development, designated VZ-8P (the "P" indicating Piasecki). The first model was powered by a pair of Lycoming piston engines and was first flown on October 1958. The aircraft demonstrated that a tandem shrouded fan airframe is stable and can be effectively controlled by deflection vanes mounted in the downdraft. After being accepted by the Army, it was replaced by a single Turbomeca Artouste engine. The upgraded Airgeep flew on June 1959 and was put through trials for both the Army and Navy over the next few years. The smaller size of the VZ-8P provided several advantages over a helicopter. However, due to the smaller rotors, it could carry less weight and still cost as much to operate as a helicopter. As a result, the Army discontinued further experiments with this concept. Type:Experimental VTOL aircraft Purpose:To research capable of operating at low altitudes Span: 7ft.5in. Length: 26ft.1in. Height: 6ft.8in. Engine: 2x Lycoming O-360-A2A pistons Max.speed:65 mph  Crew: 3 Armament: None
BlackScorpion 0 Posted April 5, 2007 GJ ran, you are correct. Its the Piasecki VZ-8P Airgeep aka Army flying jeep experiment. Why didn't any of my sources feature the "full" black line (bumber?) and the fin? Anyways, the crashed bird is a Loire-Nieuport L.N.40.

Anyways, the crashed bird is a Loire-Nieuport L.N.40. good job ! about the Airgeep, just looked like a thing I saw on a plastic model box, a Glencoe model iirc. From what I know, this thing had numerous prototypes and real size models each with certain differences.
