Playing without a CD!?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I have a strange Q for you. I´v been playing OFP since it came out and loved it, so I bought Red Hammer and Resistance as well (wich took the game even further).

But one thing I find a bit strange (and its possibly explained somwhere in this big forum) is that after all updates (1.96) I dont need to use the CD to start the games up. Why is this?

Shouldn`t the gameprotection whatever kick in?

I´m not complaining since its easier to play but I feel the need to ask biggrin_o.gif

Apparently, it's a fact, yes, after applying the 1.96 patch one doesn't need to have the disk in the drive anymore, and I'm glad about it - now I can listen to audio CD's whilst I'm playing OFP! biggrin_o.gif

That would explain it. Thx for the replys on this not so serious question.

And what a great couple of games they are (OFP,Red hammer and Resistance) biggrin_o.gif

I always thought ECP did that.

Some are saying now it was an official patch?

Not that it's terribly important at this point, but does anyone know for sure?

I believe ECP had a No-CD Crack installed with it, not sure if 1.96 did though its been a long time since I played it crazy_o.gif

Just to elaborate, ECP was (and still is) IMO anyway, the greatest addon in existance for OFP.  smile_o.gif

It added something like 30-40 new features to the core (config lvl) of the game.  The featues include amazing low-cpu-impact effects, ai surrender, improved helo command options, craters, the greatest blood effect ever, burning blood-curtaling screaming men bailouts, the list goes on and on and I am only scratching the surface here).

The biggest one for me was the DSAI (dynamic speach).  Units would say things per the situation at hand, so if they were at ease that might hum, grumble, or make fun of each other.  If they were in combat and an emeny tank rolled up over the horizon, they would yell "Armor!", etc, etc.  All with superb, believable voice acting and lots of different samples.  (i.e. none of them cheesy even a bit).  Later there was an excellent extension to the DSAI system (non-ecp) that added a TON of samples.

Best of all with ECP - Everything they added made sense and was done with a lot of thought put into it.  Nothing really didn't fit.  In fact, there wasn't a single feature I didn't like (though you could turn any of these things on or off if desired ).

All this plus you could easily apply the features to all ingame units with one simple trigger.  The only downside was it wasn't compatible with full blown conversions.

Anyhow, I sure hope someone is working on ECP for ArmA, and hope they get it right (like with OFP).  Until then, this may sound bad, but ArmA is really more of a tech demo for me. rofl.gif
