Mouse lag

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am having some difficulties getting the mouse really responsive. When I move the mouse quickly to one side, there is a slight lag which makes me over shoot the target since the crosshair travels a short distance after I have stopped moving the mouse. We're talking a very short lag, so it's not very bad, but it's definately noticable when I need to aim accurately (which is almost all the time in this game).

Is there something I can do to improve this? Does it have anything to do with the overall graphics setting? It seems to be running smooth to me with pretty high settings.

Any help and comments would be welcome.

Thanks.

i discovered exactly the same problem yesterday. if i move my mouse fast to the side, sometimes it jumps 1m more to that side sometimes not, i downloaded some logitech drivers, changed everythink possible in the windows mouse setting and arma mouse setting but without any change. i had the feeling that when i lower the graficsettings, that it doesnt happen all the time, but its still there. 1 out of 4 sidestrafes with my mouse, ends in an additional jump of 1m making aiming a joke.

Specs? If you have an Nvidia card have you tried forcing Vsync off in the panel?

If you have a nvidia card:

download coolbits (google), set 'render frames ahead' to 0

Ati:

set 'flip queue size' to 0

If it still doesnt work correctly, force vsync off.

(All this found in your driver options)

Please, i posted this at least 15 times, cant you people search? confused_o.gif

Isnt this more a mix of the usual laggy performance and the slow movements due to the realistic weight effects when moving?

Thanks for the replies:

I posted it in general because the technical forum has this text: "This forum is for reporting hardware/driver issues with ArmA as well as for reporting serious bugs."

It isn't a serious bug, and wasn't aware that it was a hardware/driver issue.

I also searched for "mouse lag". I got this message:

"Sorry, but we did not find any matches"

I have a GeForce 7800 GTX.

I already had v-sync deactivated.

I guess I will try the coolbits thing. Can anyone explain what seting 'render frames ahead' to 0 means?

Unlike a previous poster my view doesn't jump 1m after I stop moving. It's just a small lag so I have to correct my aim after I stop panning.

I'm not sure if it's suppose to be a realistic weight effect, because I think it happens when I move upwards as well (against the pull of gravity).

yeah, it really seems like a gravity think first, but as the lag comes only in 1 out of 4 moves, it isn't gravity. turning V-Sync off would make the game not really enjoyable anymore, so thats not an option for me. my rig :

Duo6700 - GTX8800 - EVGA SLI680i - 2Gb Corsair - Logitech MX510 - ArmA Morphicom 1.02

i gonna try that coolbit and report back

Just my two cents, but when I firsted played the game it looked awesome. Holy crap I thought as it was running of a Geforce 6600. Anyway I soon discovered that like you I could'nt aim at all because the mouse would soon lag over it.

However I discovered by accident actually that if I lowered all of my graphics settings this problem disappeared, so might work for you? If not you can always do what I did and pick up a cheap 7900GS for about a £100 smile_o.gif

The problem is simple guys, and also frustrating.

Its an FPS issue, when you iron up or zoom on areas of intense rendering (great example, heavy foliage) aiming becomes next to impossible.

This game is very hard to guage and test graphics settings. If you goto the level editor, stick yourself on the middle of the airfield and press "Preview" youll be loving it, very high FPS, aiming is a doddle. The mistake would be to assume its all sorted and go play. Unfortunatley you have to account for areas of dense foliage, citys (all act differently), ect.

This would be my recommendation:

Goto the level editor, and stick your player in the city "Benoma". I have found this city (more of a little town) to be highly graphical and stressing on the CPU/GFX, try aiming with irons/scope/dots at the buildings, the hills, foliage, walk through the town, try bringing the sights up randomly as if it were hostile, and most of all, walk through the heavily bushed area next to it, i think if you can get your mouse lag sorted in this place, youll be laughing everywhere else. Like i said above however, the only way to resolve it is by sacrificing graphics settings, Shadows and AA are 2 of the main culprits for poor performance.

Hope this helps you folks.

Oh, 1 last thing, i know alot of you are saying "My FPS is fine but i have mouse lag", your FPS might be fine normally, but it seems more strainful when you stick the sights up, could be because you are zooming in on things, i COULD run the game on "Very High" across the board, perfectly fine, but when i iron up i would simply never land a hit with 1.2 week aiming delay.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion. I had the game on Very High by default, and it seemed to run fine most of the time. When I put up and FPS counter I noticed how the framerate jumped between 40-10 FPS! And the control lag increased accordingly. So I turned the default slider down to normal and disabled AA altogether. Now I get ridiculous high FPS in open areas, and acceptable FPS in towns with a lot of foliage and explosions.

The biggest impact was drawing distance for me. I think I have it at 1200 now. It used to be well above 2000. It's a bit foggier now, but I can live with that.

Anyway, the test I did was to move to 3rd person view, and then quickly tap the move forward key. If I have a good setting, my dude will take a small step forward, and stop moving instantly. If I'm having it too high, my dude will not react right away when I tap the forward key, and he will still be moving a step after I have released it. So I kept tuning my settings until he moved very accurately. It's still a slight delay in a overgrown town with vehicles, smoke, explosion and bullets everywhere, but much easier to kill tangos than before.

I found it when I changed my NVIDIA display panel to 'classic view'. The modern one is pretty hopeless IMHO.

I think that you cant reach the classic control panel with that card (not sure), but i dont see a patch fixing this.

That is correct, you can only use the awful one, not the nice "Classic" control panel.

However, if you download coolbits (The bottom link of the first post in this topic), you can get to it that way.

well i could set the prerender limit now thx to nHancer and RivaTuner, but the game wan't start with "0", only with 1, but its still the same, can't aim with it. Why can i set it to 0 ? any idees? I just tried BF2 to test if it's a general problem with my cpu/mouse etc., but in bf2 my mouse is accurate and precise like robin hood. I tried also the "Floating Option" at maximum, there i saw, that in the floating area, i dont have this problem, it only appears, as the solder really moves his axis. it also seems like a problem loading a new point of view

here a vid like it is for me. i tried to aim at those 2 pillows.

http://webprod3.megashares.com/index.p....use.wmv

i already tried following stuff without any progres on my mouse:

new mousedriver for my Logitech MX510

tried another mouse with the same glitch

reinstalled ArmA and GFX drivers (97.92_forceware_winxp)

tested other games without this glitch (BF2, Oblivion, CoD2 etc)

all possible Video Options in ArmA (very low to very high on Rah.)

Vsync and other changement in Nvidias Control Panel, Riva 'n nHancer

any other idee would be really appreciated... Please !!!

Turn off postprocessing in the game.

I had the same issue with OFP and DXDLL's postprocessing, and had it in ArmA, until I turned this off..ArmA still looks nice. smile_o.gif

My system:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+

Geforce 7900GS 256MB DDR3 520/700

1GB PC3200 RAM

Hey Stephend, had a frustrating game session tonight and am in real need of less lag.

How exactly can you disable the post processing? I'm hoping you aren't going to say that it's only possible in 16Bit mode cus the night lighting is gorgeous...

Go into ArmA's video options section, and then click the "Advanced button", look for postprocessing and set it to "low", and it should work.

I'm unsure about postprocessing and 16bit HDR, but I still think it looks nice with it switched off, so I would give it a try.

Are you on an Nvidia 7 series card btw? Bit coincidental how people with this cards have had this problem with postprocessing in OFP and ArmA, maybe an engine issue.

That still doesnt explain why the problem suddenly appeared with 1.05 for some.

it did'nt helped, as said, i tried this allready:

all possible Video Options in ArmA (very low to very high on Rah.)

still the same, it gets a bit better when i lower my settings and when i use the floating option, but its still far away from accurate. For most guys ArmA is lagging anyway, so for them its a normal fps problem, but it's not...

I asked myself if i have somethink like the "FADE protection", after i read that funny interview:

http://www.videogamessuck.com/review233.html

it came to my mind, well i never had a stolen copy, so i don't know how FADE feels, not even in good old ofp, but after i tested everythink and seeing that a good friend of mine having the same problem with exactly the same PC; DUO 6700 & 8800GTX & EVGA SLI 680i & 2 Gb Corsair RAM, which could mean there's somethink wrong with this new technology stuff 'n ArmA.

Well our mouses keeping moving on their own, am i the only one ?
