Magic AI...

Ok i set some satchel charges, and hide in a bell tower, Leaning to look through latted windows. An enemy convoy heads towards the "IED"'s I detonate them and kill all but a lone BMP2.

The BMP then via magic knows where i am... This makes the game almost unplayable.

This is a bug that will be fixed in upcoming version 1.05

i wanted tomake some missions to my addons

what i observed:

1) i wanted to make mission i D-Day style

but soldiers haven't get out on beach

boat reached "get out" point and moved back to the sea

50 meters from bach it thrown soldiers out, soldiers lost theri weapons, and without any equipement they started swim to beach ?

efect known, few germans with mg42 and after few second all was over - i cannot fix this problem

2) second mission was in cald war, you are us soldier in team, leader gives an order "all get in M113" - group must move to one small village

all AI units get in M113 but me - player, i was unable, because no get in point was active, i was running around m113 and the only active option was "take grenade", "take magazine" (in group there was 8 soldiers, m113 capacity is 10)

3) i made mission with soldiers attacking tank, you are russian sniper, you have to help group of tanks to cross road safe

your mission is protect group of russian tanks against caucasus guerilla

noone of those RPG soldiers fired !

4) i was thrown out from vehicle at its top ! i was on top of vehicle not on ground

5) ai killed me by grenade by wall in city in sahrani

6) ai killed me through the small mountain

i haven seen ai yet but i was dead, it was on rahmadi island,

7) i made mission in WW2 style

there was a group of us soldiers which land too far behind enemy lines

they get order "move out from city as soon as you can, because large german troops are at your back"

mission is - to escape

what happens - AI doesn't go to next waypoint, but engages enemy and gets killed by overhelming forces

so i gave each unit individual waypoints - no groups

then some of units were escaping, some were engaging, some were stucked behind buildings and couldnt move

this game is unplayable (because of graphic) and i couldn't do one good mission

when i tried other missions - sometimes i was crowling 2 meters from AI and it didn't noticed i am near

sometimes it was firing and i haven't seen it

Wow! Here was me thinking that as soon as i (also) blew up a enemy unit, hiding in a forrest, halfway up a hillside. A big HUGE pointer was appearing over my head saying, "He's Here!" to the AI and i was shot dead. yay.gif

This has happened to me loads of times and I had assumed that I hadn't hidden myself well enough. Can you then "shake" their knowledge of you i.e. run off somewhere well out of site and sneak back from another direction?

Hi,

Instead of opening another thread i thought i would be wise to post in here as i am also experiencing issues with unbelievable AI, i hope i'm not hijacking...

Well, i'm on the 'Hotel' mission where your objective as a lone sniper is to eliminate a high ranking enemy officer.

As the notepad objective states i have moved to a firing position in reach of the hotel, this officer NEVER seems to arrive, Helicopter that aimlessly flys about always crashes into surrounding areas, rooftop gunners all have their weapons pointed at my postion and no matter where i go or where i hide and a patrol strangly ALWAYS moves to me.

A.I is bloody rediculous on this game, completely makes it unplayable, i'm quite disapointed with it as a whole at the moment, M.P is naff i see mainly CTFs no infamous missions like 'Riverbattle', 'CTIs', ect - is anyone else in my situation?

I sorry my first post had to be a pissed off one at that!

I played a really good one the other night. We had to capture a series of towns and villages, about 5 or 6 in total. Respawn as many times as you want and it was really good fun.

You can change the AI skill level in your options menu, on main screen. On normal skill I change enemy from .60 to .30, and it made the game much more playable and enjoyable for me. You can set it whatever you like ,and also change your friendly AI as well. I don't know if anyone has suggested this before, but I have looked on this and other forums, and no one else seems to have posted this.

This actually worked wonders for me and helped bring the enemy down to a more believable level. Give it a shot!

Maybe you should stay away from hotel wink_o.gif I chosed positions away 300-400 meters from hotel. Officer arrived, i shot him and sneaked away. One bullet spent and enemy hadn't clue about my location.

Maybe AI spotted you or something and officer decided that he doesn't go to hotel as there are hostiles around. Haven't looked that mission with editor, but it might be one explanation.

other explanation - wrong LODs and AI see through the walls

there is LOD geometry, there is LOD view geometry, there are components in geometry

if one is wrong it causes funny errors

remember OFP CWC ? many soldiers were moving though the walls of houses ?

you are in the room and AI goes inside like ghost - through the wall near window

now maybe there is something wrong with "AI" eyes or LOD of building (how can AI spot man which torched bombs ?)

i obseverd that sometimes in some buildings they are watching directly to you, even if you crawl in to another part of building

i observed that they don't see by other buildings and AI soldier cannot move between some buildings

i made mission in one sahrani city and soldiers were going to half or waypoint and moving backward or couldn't find next waypoint

But it doesn't mean that there's a wrong geometry lod of any

kind if the AI of an engine knows about you which is controlled

by the same engine which anyway knows about you - if you

get what i mean.

Inside the engine you are just numbers and the engine always

knows where you are - wether there are correct lods or not.

View, Geometry LOD in model of buildings are very important , otherwise player cannot hide

the other problem is why it see man who torch charges

Activated by an radius trigger; regardless if

player is seen or not? (true AI LOS meant here)

Once I played this mission, I had to have an look at it.

They just could *not* have spotted me coming...

I am sorry;..but the above init line, bound to an radius trigger...

what would you call that?

Yeah i was just playing, doing some single missions, then i go to do the first one.

Lay the satchel on the road, wait for the convoy, blow up the first tank with the satchel, 2nd tank comes along and looks right at me and starts firing... nevermind i am laying down on a hill next to a tree.

I can barely see the tank and somehow i am fluorescent yellow with flashing xmas lights wrapped around me, or something.

Kinda frustrating. huh.gif

Man Vilas, static objects (especially buildings) are my strength when it's about addon making and you tell me i don't have any idea about lods.

Well, generally you are right about what you saying but not

in this particular case in ArmA.

Here it's more an issue comming from the corner, troop mentioned in his post after yours - just not by an external

script but from the engine.

Or another one could be the 'reveal unit' command.

btw - if there's no such view geometry lod you're saying the

player can't hide => wrong - the geometry lod would take

over the job of the view geo lod wink_o.gif

:edit - and his name is troop not troops (duh).

I don't see a "reveal player" command there, so it isn't magically giving away your position.

Hi All,

Just got ArmA UK 505 version and been trying out the single missions. After playing OFP for many years I have been dieing for this game to make it to the UK.

The game sadly seems almost unplayable because the AI are impossibly good. Im using a sniper rifle and I'm so far away that I can barley see the AI at 10x magnnification through my scope. Magically though as soon as I fire they open up with their AK47's and rip me apart. Without my scope I cant even see them so how do they see me? I knicked an AK 47 from a "volunteer" AI and looked down the barrel to see what I could see. Well the scenery was nice but I couldnt see the AI at that range?!?

Oh Im hidden in long grass too but they still seem to know where I am even if they cant see me.

I tried turning the AI skill level down to almost zero but they still seem to make impossible kills.

I read about this in a PC Mag review and heard that the response from BIS was to offer to reduce the foliage? Seems that the AI is the problem and needs some work.

Look forward to any replies...

Check my earlier post on this topic, that should help. Otherwise, wait unti tomorrow for 1.05 patch. Some of these issues are apparently addressed.
