4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne) by Clavicula_Nox4817

Special Thanks:

Thanks go to Frederf from the Official Bohemia Interactive forums for allowing me to use his ACU textured Molle gear.

Thanks also goes to Berowe from the official forums for answering certain questions regarding the makeup of a PsyOps Tac team.

Thanks also goes to soldiers of the 4th Group that I have fought with in the past, befriended in the present, and will fight with in the future.

I'll see you guys on Ardennes!

Installation:

Place the file "my_acutestguy.pbo" in the ArmA\Addons folder. Start ArmA and find new units under West - 4th Psychological Operations Group.

Background:

The 4th Psychological Operations Group(Airborne) is the US Army's only active duty PsyOps formation and is based on Gruber Rd on Ft. Bradd, NC.

Capable of rapid world-wide deployments to fulfill a variety of special operations missions, the soldiers of 4th Group are the front-lines in the

Army's mission to win the hearts and minds of the people. Responsible for conducting information based asymmetrical warfare, soldiers of the 4th Group

are trained in linguistics, airborne operations, and special operations warfare.

The 9th Tactical PsyOps Battalion (Airborne) is a subordinate unit of the 4th Psy Ops Group (Airborne), that conducts "face to face," operations in

support of maneuver elements within the theater. This battalion has the capability to speak directly with enemy and friendly civilians. Tacitcal PsyOps

elements disseminate information normally developed by the regional support battalions through a variety of means.

The declared " Global War on Terror," has seen elements of the 4th Group deployed all over the world in support of actions regarding the GWOT, and teams

have distinguished themselves in both Iraq and Afghanistan in Operations Other Than War and Operations of War. Representing the cutting edge of Army

adaptability, soldiers of the 4th Group fulfill a variety of roles, from peacekeeper to moderator, from special operations warrior to interpretor, the

psychological operations soldier truly upholds the value of the Full Spectrum Warrior's mission to conduct the Three-Block Warfare stratagem.

All of these characteristics personify the Group's motto, "Words Conquer."

What this addon contains:

This addon does it's best to represent the fighting forces of a Tactical Psychological Operations team. The units included represent an

O-2 (First Lieutenant) acting as the Detachment Leader, an E-6 (Staff Sergeant) acting as the Detachment NCOIC, an E-5 (Sergeant) acting

as a Team Sergeant, and finally 3 different E-4s (Specialist) to fill in the gap. One Specialist is a typical soldier armed with an M4, another

is armed with an M249, and the third is the team's Combat Lifesaver so is armed with an M4 and is trained as a First Responder and can treat

casualties until more qualified medical personnel can be found.

New Class names:

4thpsy_SoldierWB  = the basic Psy Ops soldier. Armed with an M4.

4thpsy_squadleader = The Detachment NCOIC, veteran of multiple deployments,he insures the mission is accomplished . Armed with an m4.

4thpsy_officer = The Detachment Leader, responsible for the goals of a PsyOps team. Armed with an M4 and M9.

4thpsy_teamleader = The Team Leader takes his authority straight from the NCOIC and can lead in his place. Armed with an M4.

4thpsy_soldiersaw = the basic Psy Ops soldier armed with an M249.

4thpsy_soldiercls = The Combat Lifesaver, sometimes the first and only response to a battlefield casualty, armed with an M4.

Could you make just an overwrite of the BIS with the 2nd ID patch? Rifleman PFC, Gren SPC, TL SGT, SQL SSG, etc.  I know you'd be more than willing to produce the PSG, PL, and the rest... I'd leave the name-tape portion blank! They look good buddy, keep up the nice work.

The funny thing is, my favorite drill sergeant at sand hill was in the 82nd, and this same unit at fort bragg in afgan. He was a really squared away guy

These aren't bad at all. What I would recommend to Frederf in the future is to angle your shoulder pockets a bit further forward, they don't go straight up-down.

Otherwise, not a bad effort. All we need now is to be able to fix up the light maps so the name patches etc don't look so flat.

Problem with doing that is I think I would have to repbo the entire Characters.pbo file which is over 600 meg. AND it would kill any multiplayer, if you use that (I don't).

I can do a seperate addon easy enough, but unless someone can tell me otherwise, overwriting the default would require redoing the entire file.

The pockets should be a little greener, but it really isn't such a big deal, you know?I also moved the rank tab on the vest from the center to under the blank name-tape and added the flap on the pocket that covers the IR patch. The picture showing the LT doesn't show this, but it's an older picture.

Sweet job bro. Bout time these guys got some representation in Arma.

If you want to know more about the role of these special ops guys in modern warfare check the link. The PSYOP guys and their Civil Affairs brothers play an important role in the global war on terror.

No, the only flag on the uniform is worn on the upper portion of the right pocket. The left sleeve is wear the soldier's unit insignia is to be found, which in this case is:

psyops.jpg

Just in the appropriate ACU color pattern.

Reminds me of the baby kissing missions.

Forget that!

Excellent addon, BTW.

Ok, thanks. In the screenshots I'm mistaking (what I now

realize is) a bare velcro patch on the left upper arm for some

kind of "ACU coloured" insignia. I thought it was odd to wear

a bright and a subdued flag at the same time - but that's not

what they're doing.

I'll download your pack and have a proper look at everything

later. Right now my free time all goes on my own addon

making attempts and building a website for them, but I do like

these "insignia and reorganization" mods you're doing since

that sort of detail appeals to me.

Yeah, that's what I figured you were talking earlier. Where insignia is concerned, that upper flap of the pocket is where skill tabs (Ranger, sapper, special forces, honor guard, president's hundred) go, or, if your deployed some soldiers like putting blood type and any special medical patchs on there. (IE. No-Pen = No Penicillan, NKA = no Known Allergies)

Re-reading through my readme, I accidently mispelled Ft.Bragg as Ft. Bradd confused_o.gif and I'm sure there are several other grammatical errors.

Glad you appreciate the detail, Faulkner. My skill is quite limited, but I'd rather have all the little details I can cram in there to give it that level of authenticity.

It doesn't overwrite the existence soldiers, you'll find these units in the mission editor under BLUFOR - 4th Psychological Operations Group.

great job... glad someone made psyopers for this game.

not to nitpick, but a few minor details about psyop for anyone curious... at least from my humble experience: we don't have officers under the rank of captain in psyop (to my knowledge). I assume due to the great level of responsiblity (and potential effect) that the detachment officer has... and its an ARSOF officer position. Not sure, but i think future psyop LTs are stuck into accession branches until CPT qualified.

And though I'm not as certain about this one, the people I've known in 4th POG wear the USASOC patch on their shoulder which is your forum user picture... maybe they were in training or something, but its been my understanding that 4thpog wears usasoc.

The reserve components of psyop wear the USACAPOC patch which is the one you used in your addon. I personally prefer and am glad that you used the capoc patch, though, because that one is uniquely psyop. And because I wear it in 2nd POG.

Perhaps I may be mistaken as I'm not in 4thPOG, but this is what I've seen in my personal experience.

These comments are not meant to be critical, though. I am glad to see these units in arma and think you did a wonderful job.

Now if only someone would make a psyop speaker truck hmmwv addon so I could blare death metal music at unsuspecting commie bastards....

4th Group doesn't wear the USASOC patch, they wear the patch I gave them. CA guys on Bragg, that's different, I've seen them wear both and I don't know why. I have never seen anyone from 4th wearing USASOC. I'm in USASOC, and I just haven't seen it.

I didn't know that about the officers, but I think you might be mistaken about there being no Lieutenants. Possibly not in a tactical team, but, I will change it to a Captain anyways.

I would much rather have someone point out little things that can be changed, so I can make it just that much better.

When the tools come out, I have a list of Humvees that I'm going to make. First on my list is some proper Signal Corps trucks and antennas, then the speaker trucks, and possibly some humvees modified in the manner that we have modified ours.

the bragg CA guys shoudl probably start to wear the 95th CA brigade patch. http://www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/CivilAf....ade.htm The active-duty CA element just tripled in size and is no longer just former SF guys- but before the transition I seem to remember some of their command staff wearing USASOC.

As for lieutenants in SOF, it's hard to do but it happens. Last I heard they were gonna make it easier to let them in- sometimes they're not necessarily psyop or CA guys but maybe intel or medical or cross-listed. It's not rocket science to figure out that they're hard up and will take what they can get smile_o.gif

Yeah, before I left 35th Sig (insert sad face), a lot of us were re-classing to CA as a way to escape the blackhole known as 35th Sig. The few of those guys I caught up to were still wearing USASOC (this was back in..umm..September?).

I still think I'll change the officer's rank to O-3.

Quote[/b] ]It's not rocket science to figure out that they're hard up and will take what they can get

Yes, I'm currently in my window and want to do anything to stay in SOF. With my MOS being closed, a re-class is in my future no matter what, and my career counselor mentioned that they want to double the size of 4th Group. I'm sure there will be plenty of E-5 slots open, and I'm seriously starting to look into that option more and more.

psyops units sound like a nice addition.... mabey some special soundfile would be cool for the humvees with the speakers

Yeah, doing the humvees assumes I will be able to figure out how to do models and what-not. It *shouldn't* be a problem, but I have no experience in doing that kind of thing, so who knows.
