Updating Nvidia drivers causes game not to run.

Recommended Posts

I have been changed my graphic drivers twice to find the right one for me and found each time a serious error with Arma.

Each time this has happened i have had to reinstall the game, i have taken a screen shot.

Why is this happening when i change the graphic driver other games don't have the problem?

What version driver are you using? I'm still using the 91.47 version on my 7600GS and it works fine.

Ok it seems that with the driver only it works... So it's a problem with the catalyst control center...

I changed from 92.91 to 93.37 then changed to 93.38, i was experimenting with the drivers to find the right one for me.

The point is everytime you update the Nvidia driver Arma fails to run (as shown in image in first post), which means you have to do a complete reinstall of the game.

If any moderators know or could point me in the right direction on how to solve it that would be great.

AMD3800+

7900GS

2Gigs

Arma German Patched to 1.02

Not completly unrelated - I was experimenting with switching between the on-board soundcard and a Soundblaster live. Everytime I switched, ArmA refused to load untill I rolled back to the previous restore point.

I dont think ArmA likes change, but any help in this matter appreciated. We're all going to need to upgrade drivers at somepoint surely?

You might want to try the Omega Drivers for your ATI cards.

They don't need the .net package from Microsoft.

Actually the damn Catalyst control center has a friggin' 120 Megabyte that are loaded into the system memory as soon as you start Windows. All because of some fancy videos and leet-style menus. No thanks. I gave the Omega Drivers a try and they work fine.

Come on this is a problem for anyone updating drivers, can anyone tell me where to report this problem?

Otherwise everyone that updates Nvidia drivers at some point will always have to reinstall Arma banghead.gif

@Neildood, have you tried re-installing directx after updating the video drivers?

When exactly does this crash occur?

@everyone, this is about Forceware, not Catalyst.

@everyone, this is about Forceware, not Catalyst.

I uninstall the original driver then use Driver cleaner to make sure the driver is completely removed. The machine is then rebooted to which it then asks device detected (which is graphic card) do you want to look for new driver, i click no.

I then double click the driver to be installed e.g v93.81 and install as normal the machine then reboots and then i set the settings as normal in control panel.

Now when i go to run Arma for the first time i get the error as shown in my first post images, it will not startup so i have to uninstall and reinstall Arma over again to which it will run fine.

I have tried this a couple of times with different forceware drivers and has caused the same problems when wanting to run Arma (my other games dont cause a problem).

I have the latest DirectX version from December installed so i have not reinstalled this, should i have too after driver change?

Also i dont have my antivirus program running when im installing game/drivers.

Has anyone tried deleting the ArmA.cfg in my docs/ArmA?

Try this before uninstalling the game when you've changed the driver, see if it works?

The theory being it will generate a new config for the new driver??

Sorry forgot to mention i did that as well, after uninstall went and deleted all Arma.cfg and Arma Other Profiles.cfg from my name/Documents and Settings. Also deleted all files left in Bohemian directory (where game was installed too).

Then reinstalled! Then if you change forceware driver i have the same error problem.

Am i missing another location?
