lone.wolf 80 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi community.. I search the following topic, without the answers i need.!! * I want to know when parachuting from high altitude, will the parachute open instanly (and let you hang for 1 hour before landing), or opens after a certain seconds, or before a certain set of meters from ground... * Is the landing straight down or influenced by wind... * Is the a way to make controlled opening of parachute... thanx
moricky 211 Posted February 6, 2007 Parachute is opened right after eject from helo or airplane. If you place units to high altitude by some scripting command, it wont open automatically. It should be influenced by wind, but its move is very random. And no, there is no way to control parachute (without some special addon).
Shins 0 Posted February 6, 2007 There will almost certainly be controlable chutes after the tools are released. Expect fully controlable HALO and HAHO chutes shortly after.
walker 0 Posted February 6, 2007 * Is the a way to make controlled opening of parachute... Hi all Parachutes like any other vehicle in ArmA and OFP are mod-able and I am sure the modded parachute functions for steerable parachutes with user set chute opening procedures from OFP: time altitude and user ripcord for HAHO and HALO, will be added to ArmA in fairly short order so the broad answer to your question is yes  Kind Regards Walker
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted February 6, 2007 * Is the a way to make controlled opening of parachute... Since some of the people here aren't particularly good readers, I'll provide you with a correct answer. Yes, parachutes automatically deploy after created (unless with the special "FLYING", where it's already open), but you can create a parachute "on" a free-falling unit to simulate a controlled (manual) parachute deployment. You can use an action to allow the player to deploy it when they want, or check for altitude and do it automatically. You can even use switchMove to make the fee-falling guy donn the proper animation, and setvectordir/up & setvelocity for a smooth transition into the parachute (something to take advantage of with the new ArmA commands). And like all scripting, there are numerous different approaches (some better than others) to doing it, you just have to be creative.
Dudester 0 Posted February 7, 2007 I to was wondering about the parachutes, could you steer them in OFP? If my memmory hasn't failed me i seem to remember you could.
mads bahrt 0 Posted February 7, 2007 in case of the built-in parachutes you couldn't steer them. You could choose which direction you were looking in, but thats it. There were made steerable parachutes as usermade addons though.
aus_twisted 0 Posted February 7, 2007 I to was wondering about the parachutes, could you steer them in OFP? If my memmory hasn't failed me i seem to remember you could. No, a lot of the times you would land into the acid water because you had no control over where you were going to land.
4 IN 1 0 Posted February 7, 2007 i could only hope that BIS change the current chute back into a round one(have a steerable chute model without anyway to steer is just as rubbish as unreasonable bitching)
monkeyb 0 Posted February 7, 2007 The Parachutes in Arma are just plain wierd. They swing around uncontrolably and have no control whatsoever. Hopefully someone will make an add on to make them a whole lot better.
znashin 0 Posted February 7, 2007 I think they'd look alot better if they were used a bit more authentically. Watching the ai bail out of a chopper at 200m altitude at half second intervals looks rubbish. They often look like upside down weebles bumping off each other Say what you want about soldner (I do) but it had this area covered spot on for my money. You could control your sky-dive and 'chute really realistically and skillfully. Even to the point of doing flashy Bond HALOs where the chute just catches when you are meters from the ground. Would you be able to write a script that swapped your wrist watch pop-up for a wrist altitude meter then swap it back on landing? Don't know if parachutes have altometer in upper left screen but I'd remove it regardless.
olemissrebel 0 Posted February 7, 2007 While they are the wrong model parachutes, they do make me dizzy, just like jumps in real life, so props for BIS for that, lol.
