Darkseed79 0 Posted December 13, 2006 Why was this removed? The tank commanders only use now in ArmA is to fire the turret mounted mg since without zoom he can't see anything that isn't really close. I really wish tank commanders could be given binoculars to use while turned out in order to spot for the gunner, as that position is what a tank commander will be in most of the time in real life. scubaman3D 0 Posted December 13, 2006 Its the same thing for the Strykers, which is a complaint of mine as well...and the strange thing is that the M113 has insane telephoto zoom capability and you're just using iron sights. Contrast this with vehicles that use optics yet have no zoom... smething is wrong with this picture (no pun intended )
Darkseed79 0 Posted December 13, 2006 You can zoom with your naked eye as well (although a limited zoom it helps out quite alot) and not with the tank commander optics, it makes no sense. I really liked the commander position in OFP, it still missed binocs when turned out but atleast you could zoom with the optics in order to spot for the gunner. Now he serves no purpose at all whenever there's not lots of enemy infantry around close enough for him to actually be able to spot them. Please BIS, give the commanders some love too. I'd trade the turret mounted mg for binocs or zoomable optics any day of the week.
Guggy 0 Posted December 13, 2006 I'd like to see this as well. The only time I've had the need to use the M2 is when hostile infantry are within 20 or so meters of my tank. It'd be great to have a 3x zoom or what-have-you for helping find targets for the tank gunner.

norsu 180 Posted December 13, 2006 I would like to see more polished optics for vehicles. It's somewhat hard to aim with them when there are scratches and dust all over the screen.
Visceral_Syn 0 Posted December 13, 2006 Being a former qualified M2-A2 BFV Operator, the TC in that vehicle has an Optic's Suite. And from what i'm to understand the Optics Suite in the BFV is comparable to the one in the M1-A2 Abrams MBT. i'd personally like to see the TC have an Optic's Suite, not just the standard zoomable dirty lense, from Operation Flashpoint, thats most likely to be implemented. ...Syn... I really wish tank commanders could be given binoculars to use while turned out in order to spot for the gunner, as that position is what a tank commander will be in most of the time in real life. In Real life combat, the tank commander always stays inside...in fact, all of the crew stays inside...the Turret mountet MGs are "ultima ratio" only. In all modern tanks, (M1A2, Leo2 A5 etc.) the commander has it's own independent thermal search and sighting device, (4x or 8x Zoom CITV) with main gun overide funktion, so he can aim and fire the main gun himself. "Bin there, done that...!"
Darkseed79 0 Posted December 14, 2006 In combat, yes. But when not in combat will he not stay unbuttoned with a pair of binocs? I'm more familiar with World War 2 tank tactics than modern ones, so I might be wrong. Though in either case the commander badly needs zoom for his optics. Spend my hole youth assigned as Leo 1A5 DK crew, and I remembered spotting for enemies that way. The M60 - Chieftans ect. did properly use the same method - even the m1 early version I guess, so I can't see why we should'nt have that feuture - as a choice at least... WE SHOULD ALSO HAVE OUR TANK INTERIOUR BACK!!
Canalien 0 Posted December 15, 2006 Yeah what happened to the tank interior? Now it's either full optics or 3rd person... And when holding space to enter command mode of a vehicle (even if you're not in commander position... ie you are group leader and are in driver seat of a Stryker and trying to command your gunner) the cursor is locked to whatever viewpoint you have... you can't move it around the screen without trying to move your vehicle there either... (holding space doesn't enter it into a 'free float' mode) which makes it absolutely useless for trying to select targets.
