Also do the textures have normal maps (or whatever it's called to get that shiney shineyness that makes the Harrier look so sexy)? Also they seem a little blurry, but maybe that's just me smile_o.gif

Ah, that - yup, they definitely do, but I don't consider them a priority right now.

The model is a little long in the tooth (IMO) to justify the work of going into new textures. But hey... At least I've got one, and it can make some pretty big bangs using all those weapons!

Maybe someone else will come out with a better jet with 15,000 faces and 3x2048x248 textures. wink_o.gif

EDIT: Yes, the external textures have normal maps and specular maps applied to them.

afair the legawarz bombtruck crashed OFP because it had a +12k model or something like that (pls don´t quote me on this, really not sure).

Does it really need to be that detailed? *hugs 4 years old rig*

The engine is supposed to be able to handle more than 30k, and I think several of ArmA's models come close to the 10k mark - or more. Multiple 2048x2048 textures also seem to be in use, so the capability is definitely there.

Damn near it. And does anybody remember the first M60A3 by the pedagne mod I believe it was...the face count was extremely high. 60k or so is what I heard.. But even then the face count on the bird alone isn't quite that high, I believe he mixed in the various loadout weapons to the count.

Albiet we'v never really been the best when it came to textures, our addons were more about what is possible and what they can do, pushing the engine to do more and so on, however that is likely to change in the texture area. As for the blandness, http://www.airliners.net/open.fi....&size=L

But the F-18 is in truth 98% Franze's work and 2% Hellfires work, I had nothing to do with it other then testing.

At the moment texture upgrading for certain units is not the highest priority, showing that we are still going and moving on.

Franze may give the F-18 a glossy finish dependant on how he wants it to appear in the end, what he did there is only a quick put together to test it out, and what causes that is specular maps, not normal maps.

The layout we are using for kabul will be much different, because it would just be too much to have all that without poor performance.

At a later point we will adjust the sat image to better portray the layout we end up using for the roads and buildings...

The Hornet is all Franze's work, I'v done nothing on it.

@StryDa The texture was made to be a bit dirtier. The image also looks more appealing since the ground is not at the same angle, therefore not looking out of place.

This is not the case.

ArmA is not like OFP.

You main problem will be all the work of creating different buildings but if your team was big enough and you set up some 40 or so generic buildings, I do not see why such an island would run any worse than Sahrani.

You also will not have the complexity of all the forests since mostly it is desert.

ArmA realy needs a buildings mod team who just make lots of generic buildings, although Mapfact already do this to some extent and so do the Czech Mod Team.

If you have never made an addon before making good working buildings is a good place to learn the skills of addons and far more likely to well recieved than another MP4.

An addon with just standard building textures already normal mapped; so people could just add them to their own buildings, would be as ubiquitous as editor addon 1.02 was in OFP. Any one who did it would be as famous as Kegetys. It would be best if it was extensable so that the maker could just keep adding textures for people to use.

yeah making the buildings is the long drawn out part... Im evaluating the system i will use for making kabul. I have 16 buildings in mind from xs to xxl .. out of those buildings once they are all mapped and tested with firelod and stuff I will make new combos out of the 16 types... so hopefully 40 or more can be managed.. but the limit is still 128 components in the geometry or fire lod. So single placables are kind of limited if you dont want the puzzle style addon where you need to fit em together.

What I would like to do is mabey organize a workshop for making buildings and have them compiled into an immeadiate addon available. Its alot of work but worth it in the end... the hard part is mainly software used and keeping it all together... I wish i had more hours in a day to do everything....

If people would be interested i would continue this workshop thing... I already have a section in my forum for helping anyone through an addon, but not active atm sad_o.gif

@parvus When the tools are released I will begin adding normal maps to all textures.... 266 objects will take some time....

so public release is awhile away..... internal is already going as you know
