Avimimus 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Hello, I was wondering if there will be any way to save a multiplayer game in Armed Assault. It is important for small scale co-op campaigns and I haven't heard it mentioned as a feature.
BraTTy 0 Posted October 9, 2006 I doubt that. You would need the original players to be online in order to start up your savegame.
paragraphic l 2 Posted October 9, 2006 If I remember correctly, it has allready been stated in older interviews, for games like co-op en cti the game state will be saved. correct me if i'm wrong
Cpt Viper 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Why not use 'Join In Progress' ? Get somewhere safe ie. your base or any other fortification and leave. Whenever you come back you can just jump right back in. - Viper

Hello,I was wondering if there will be any way to save a multiplayer game in Armed Assault. It is important for small scale co-op campaigns and I haven't heard it mentioned as a feature. I was thinking of this exact question, because just a few days ago we had to call it a night before we finished a mission. If there was a save feature, we could go back and finish it. That also opens the door for HUGE missions that could take days.
Avimimus 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Why not use 'Join In Progress' ? Get somewhere safe ie. your base or any other fortification and leave. Whenever you come back you can just jump right back in. - Viper Very simple reason: - If you are not using a dedicated server - If you are not just spawning and blasting people but actually want to play in a consistent universe in which one has to plan, think and act with care. If you can generate a new mission at some point half way through the first mission you can have longer missions with more realistic timing and tactics (and replay the end). However good it may be for traditional multiplayer, people can't just run to a facility and get transfered out in a real combat environment.

I'd say it's a fair guess your base would be fucked by the time you got back.
Avimimus 0 Posted October 9, 2006 So for a very short time at least 3/4s favour this feature...
Goeth 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Actually i can´t decide is it good or a bad thing to have save option in mp. In situation like rg7621 mentioned it is a good thing. I was thinking of this exact question, because just a few days ago we had to call it a night before we finished a mission. If there was a save feature, we could go back and finish it. That also opens the door for HUGE missions that could take days. But then again when people start saving after every minute it kinda spoils the thrill. Also surviving some 2 hour coop without dying rewards you with special feeling, which also may be ruined by saving option. Maybe there should be option that you get three saves or something like that in cadet level and one in veteran level. But then again it could be unlimited, it´s up to players if they wanna be virtual pussies and save after every minute or be the virtual killing machine and not use saves at all. Garcia 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Or, as I would have liked most, up to the mission designer or server. You could limit the amount of saves, maybe add some time delay between the saves? I.e you have a timer that is started when you start/loads/saves a mission, and then you have to wait some time before you can save again.
cain2001 0 Posted October 9, 2006 this could be done with scripting, it would however require CPU and alot of markers + time to implent in missions!
lwlooz 0 Posted October 9, 2006 A german PC Games preview mentioned the game having a save-function for MP around the GDC I think. That has never been confirmed by "We rather let people come up with the wildest rumors than simply say yes or no" BIS. If we were to get it you could have scenarios run for a unlimited time. JIP only would allow you to let one scenario run 24/7 and you would have hope for no server crashes at all. Not that I believe we will get a save/load system with unlimited savegames the admin can choose from like he can choose missions, but even a very limited one save/load per mission will do fine. We will have to see if it makes it in,I doubt it since Placebo isnt advertising it in interviews like FSM and all the other fancy phrases
Avimimus 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Good to know, Btw. They haven't mention helo flight models at this point either have they? S! -Avimimus
Garcia 0 Posted October 10, 2006 And I would expect there to be something like this in MP for campaigns at least, seeing that you can play the SP one in MP too. Either that or they've just stuffed the SP campaign missions into MP where you can choose to start the last missions without playing the first one...which I hope they haven't. frederf 0 Posted October 11, 2006 You can save a server state in MP and resume it later. It's very clearly shown on the ArmA FAQs about. I honestly read it and didn't imagine it! But I can't seem to find that info again! Grrr.
