Mines+different missions in ArmA

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if there will be any mines included in ArmA, and if so, what types to expect? OFP had a mine resembling the American m-19 antitank mine as the only option that was organic to the game. However, different addonmakers and modders came up with ways of creating tripwires and claymore-style (projectile) mines. I'm hoping that Russian "bouncing-betty" mines will be present, as well as locally manufactured "shoe" mines.

I was also wondering if there may be any potential in the game for noncombat-style missions, where you must demine an area (under fire or not), or if there might be missions where you must act as part of a medical unit, ferrying troops, patching wounds, etc.

Thanks,

I think there will be some mines. Its especially in modern combat a great factor (IED's) so why should BI ignore it.

Well i personly knew a GI who was killed by an IED so i think it may be a problem...

And there's almost every week something about stuff like this in the news.

Soldiers have died because of IED's, AK47's, handgrenades and many other things that are represented in war video games.

I doubt BIS will include IED's since they dont fit with the game style but tripwires with flares, claymores and some more stuff would be nice.. in the game smile_o.gif .

IEDs can be made to set off when a tank rolls over it (mines) or by a spotter that will set it off when a target drives by (demo charge).

If you want a car to blow up (like in Iraq) next to a APC driving by it just put a car on top of a demo charge with it's doors locked. set up a very small detection zone next to the car and when the allies enter it (or even a certain vehical) set the demo to zero health. Boom, IED went off.

Sorry, If you already knew this. But some things are easily made. Others need to be built by the programers.

Well if there is a resistance side like in OFP it'd be more likely for them to use guerilla style tactics.

2nd peaple who are in the millitary probably wouldent like it either

There are a lot of other things in games that would probably upset them too, rifles, handgrenades, pistols, etc. I don't think including something like IEDs would be any different than the rest.

Lets get your opinion on it Zim, your a corporal in the marines right? wink_o.gif

excuse my language but...what the fuck? how does a Improvised explosive device not fit into flashpoint when it is one of the most important aspects of guerilla warfare? if it wasnt for 'IEDs', america would have no problem in iraq. Why would 'people who are in the military' not like IEDs? it is just another man made tool that kills when another man triggers it in some way. If it is so however, then we might as well not include kalashnikovs and rpgs.

Mines are not easy to simulate in flashpoint by scripts at all. The closect thing that comes to doing that are probably the COC mines, which are extremely resource hungry. Ever tried blowing a COC claymore in multiplayer? then you'll know what i mean. Such mines should be hardcoded into the game. Properly simulated Mines can add another dimension to the game. In my view, they are as important as guns and grenades.

Because Arma is not based on the "war" on terrorism, meaning you wont have the full power of the US military VS terrorists armed with rpg's, ak's and IED's.

The enemy in this game will be an organised and equiped military institution smile_o.gif .

I've never had problems blowing CoC claymores in multiplayer. No noticeable decrease in FPS or anything...

I just hope BIS adds tripwires to the game.

I don't think IED should be added into the game. Many game like this are bought by terrorists for "training" purposes. So yes it's just another instument of war, but this is a war game, not a terrorist training program. Even if they pick up on some of the tactics the US uses, it wont matter. In real life terrorists have no actual training on them, theres more than just where your placed. But with IED you can practice how to place them so drivers wont notice, and good ways to approch convoys.

...What? Well with this argument, one can say we should ban all:

Flight Simulators

Train Simulators

FPS

Strategy games

etc.

Any and all games, and lots of items, can be used irresponsibly. I could use a Hammer and kill someone, does that mean we should ban Hammers because its a lethal weapon?

With your argument, we should have Sahrani be non playable at all. Afterall, they are American enemies are they not? With your argument, Northern Sahrani forces shouldnt fire bullets, because that simulates the killing of American troops!

Like how many exactly? Which games? What terrorists? And how much simulated training do you estimate one would require to be able to succesfully place an explosive on the road and wait?

Anyway, if someone was really going to use ArmA to practice using IEDs, they could just use the default satchel charge, mine or some addon IED anyway.

OFP was used by terrorists. Honestly, not adding something because terrorists may use it to learn tactics is quite silly. All that you would be able to simulate in ArmA if IEDs was added can easily be simulated now in OFP. Only thing you can't simulate is making a IED and such...

bng a cnfdrt geenral, ied objct to thr feturng of teh klsnahovkcs n the gme. i dnt lke bengi shit by tm as they quet hort whne they ht. so i agree wnt my comrd in arms, INVADERZIM.

Mines need to be included - CoC mines are quite nasty when used in large numbers in MPlayer, but they're the best simulation of mines out there.

IEDs would be nice and would add some flexibility to combat situations. But they're easily modded so they ain't too much of a concern.

As for kalashnikovs, I hope I don't see any. Otherwise I'll be writing angry posts from my porch as clearly Flashpoint will instruct would-be-terrorists on their use.

how are IED's different from claymored and stuff at the end of the day anyway. they all go boom and are designed to kill. its not asif there only ever been used in iraq. The US forces have been dealing with them since Vietnam.

Agreed with Trev'.

Are we going to go on an ethical brainfarting session everytime there's something that -might- be controversial in the eyes of certain people who often times are the least concerned ? Why are some people putting themselves in the place of certain persons without anybody asking them ?

The now popular acronym that's so widespread in the media ever since coallition troops re-discovered the joys of improved devices is so nasty ? IED's or however you call them have been part of guerrilla warfare for several decades now. You want a simulation or a PC Carebears hugfest ?

Did you hear an outcry from me when CoC released its mines ? This could have seriously offended me, damn ...

I doubt Hadji is going to spend 50 bucks on a videogame and the ammount needed for a high end computer just to learn how to plant bombs when he could learn as easily through cheap paper illustrated publications or practicing with dummies on a desert road in the countryside.

Oddly enough most of the noise comes from people who live in a country where ressources to build homemade weaponry and explosives are readily available ... Oh the irony ...

true, i think were agreed the biggest country that will have a problem with it will be the USA. But in the USA you can just buy explosives anyway so whats the problem? its not asif playing Arma is going to push somone to blowing themselves up. Theres already enough dodgy homemade vidios doing that anyway.

I always get confused when people talk about video games as training for terrorists.

Training someone to employ IEDs requires some very specific skills that the game mostly either has innaccurate or glosses over like:

1. Constructing IEDs

2. Careful concealing

3. Trigger mechanisms

4. How the enemy will react

5. Convoy size, spacing, composition

I suppose certain things like weapons placement could be practiced, but would work just as well with a piece of paper.

Spot on and much better worded and straight to the point than my rant. Kudos to you Frederf.
