wex-q 0 Posted March 19, 2007 Also take a look at Task manager are there any weird looking named programs running which shouldnt? Keep in mind that some of the windows processes has pretty wierd names, but their are lists of the processes from XP (and other OS probably), not sure where you can find them, probably just Google it and you'll find. echo1 0 Posted March 19, 2007 Sounds more like a virus than spyware. Spyware tends not to do anything but slow your PC down. Download a trial version of a software called PrevX and a trial version of Kaspersky antivirus. Run them both, between them they should wipe out any virus or spyware on your PC. I'd recommend Kaspersky as (probably) the best AV programme out there, but if you dont want to spend money, get AVG Free. Id just recommend using a trial of Kaspersky for clearing out an infection because my experience is that it picks up the most amount of viruses.
LtJamesWatts 0 Posted March 20, 2007 Correct, Kaspersky is the better antivirus program out there. If you used Spybot and Ad-Aware and couldn't find anything and even Kaspersky doensn't help you out, give it a go with HijackThis and see what it comes up with. Clean also all unwanted stuff of your pc with ccleaner because if you've never done that, you will see it will find a lot of junk you don't need anymore and which also could be causing these strange behaviours. karantan 0 Posted March 20, 2007 I have a chance to buy this PC for a 990 Euros (which I think is a very good price): Intel Core 2 E6400 (2Mb L2 Cache, 2.13GHz, 1066) 2048Mb DDR2 533Mhz RAM nVidia 8800GTS 320Mb DDR3 I think I already know the answer on my question, and I'm like already decided, but I need the answer from a 'first hand' to 'reasure' myself if you know what I mean ; will this configuration run ArmA satisfiently? operation madman 0 Posted March 21, 2007 sorry to interfere but.. you guys dint exactly answer my question. Do i need to buy a 7600GT vista version(if that even exist) or do all regular 7600GT work with vista? And do i need to buy Armed assualt vista version?(agian if that even exist)
LtJamesWatts 0 Posted March 21, 2007 There is no 7600GT specifically for Vista and neither a version of Arma for that OS. The card should work, all depends on the drivers that were released of Nvidia for your card. I uninstalled Vista Home Premium for now because it wasn't working in the way I wanted it to be and so I installed XP Pro SP2 again. In a couple of months though most drivers for graphic cards, sounds cards etc. and a bios update for motherboards should be up-to-date so it will make Vista work more stable on different systems. wex-q 0 Posted March 21, 2007 How do I completely empty a harddrive? I have a FAT32 (yuck ) formatted drive, wich I want to complete wipe clean, and at the same time reformat to NFTS (or whatever it is). How do I do so? I'm terrible with softwaring
LtJamesWatts 0 Posted March 21, 2007 Should be sufficient to start up with your Windows cd inserted but first make sure that your cd/dvd drive is set as first boot device in your bios. Windows will start to load some files so give it time and afterwards you should be able to start a new installation where you get the option to format first and then to select NTFS. operation madman 0 Posted March 22, 2007 Can you answer my question more detailedly. Is their a specific arma i should get for window vista 32bit? And same with a 7600GT. If so can you show me which one pls?
echo1 0 Posted March 22, 2007 I think Lt-Watts answered that pretty clearly - No. There is no Vista specific versions of ArmA or any hardware. The same ArmA or graphics card will works under XP, Vista, 98 etc....

Tried to, but the WinXP installation gets stuck after a bit. The OS right now is Win2000. Any ideas of what the problem could be? And is there another way, via software or alike? LtJamesWatts 0 Posted March 22, 2007 Where does it exactly get stuck? How much time did you give it because sometimes it might seem that it is stuck but its still installing?
wex-q 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Can't remember where, but I gave it 2-3 hours. I'll try again today when I have more time, and I'll see what it says when it get stucks. Thanks for help
LtJamesWatts 0 Posted March 23, 2007 2-3 hrs? Wow, that's a long time. It should be installed within the hour. No prob, you're welcome and keep me posted
wex-q 0 Posted March 23, 2007 I'm having trouble with using the FORMAT command in MS DOS, and there's no help on Microsofts webpage, and I can't find anything about the problem on any webpage. First I "write format c:" and it asks for the name of the drive, I put in "local disc" and then it warns cause all files will go, I say yes, do it anyways, and then it says that the command format couldn't be used because the harddrive (getting formatted) was used by another process. So, instead, I'll try to find an XP-cd, I have it somewhere back in the closet, and try to clear the installation with that wex

Burn it onto a disk and boot from it, its a linux live CD that automatically loads into the gParted Formatting tool. Its a much more powerful tool than the XP disk formatting options. Im also a bit confused as to what it is that you want to do. Are you trying to do a clean windows installation (ie. Format and then reinstall) or do you just want to delete your hard disk of all its contents?
wex-q 0 Posted March 25, 2007 Delete all, going to transfer it do another computer, so my sister can have a better harddrive, right now she's on a 2x8GB
echo1 0 Posted March 25, 2007 Right then. You will need the Windows Disk for that job then. I havent read all of your posts but have you tried that and had problems? If so, what were they?
wex-q 0 Posted March 25, 2007 A freeze while installing corefiles. I waited a few hours, but it wasn't moving, and I tried several times. The current OS installed is Win2000.
baddo 0 Posted March 25, 2007 wex-q I suspect you tried to format your hard disk drive while it was in use by the operating system which you tried to use to format your hard disk drive so... it won't work that way. If it wasn't that then what can I say other than get an installation CD obtained legally and just do an installation and let the installer format your hard disk drive. If the installation takes a long time don't be surprised, it's nothing new when installing Windows. Give it a couple of hours until you say it got stuck. If you still got problems and the installation doesn't finish, make sure your installation CD is okay. Also be sure your CD drive works, that can be a problem too if it can't read your CD's. If you got problems with using Windows to manage your hard disk drives then yes one option is you could use for example a Linux Live CD to re-arrange the hard disk drive. I've got a dual boot computer (both WinXP and a Linux distro installed on separate hdd's) and Linux is very handy in case of Windows puts itself into an unusable state or something else undesirable, as Linux does not care about the file access rights etc. set by Windows. I recommend trying Linux out if you are not afraid to read a good amount of documentation and tutorials. You can play OFP in Linux As a sidenote if you really want to get rid of all the data traces in your hard disk drive, just formatting it won't be enough (to my knowledge standard format means empty file table and check for bad sectors, which does nothing for the data in the hard disk drive (you lose the references to the files but the data locations are not touched). But I think that is not a concern for you and it's not what you asked about. Just to make sure you understand formatting doesn't make all your data go away forever so that no one could retrieve it.
