Run Forest ... Run !

Instead of letting this animation i had worked times ago being just forgotten with the time on my hardrive, i decided to release it standalone, as i think it might be interesting for the user.

I was always annoyed by the sprinting animations that was included in all the DMA modpack, as it seemed that despite all kind of tweaks i could do, the soldier was always running like a chicken with his arms moving a bit unnaturally.

With that new sprint animation, the soldier now run like a ...

...Well... ok, but that's a different chicken.

More seriously, this animation should feel more natural to the player (at least, like a natural .. chicken this time), and you may want to replace the original one or the one from a replacement animation pack.

If you have never opened/repacked a pbo, or created a mod folder, just follow the detailled step by step instructions in the readme.txt, that's very easy

Hmmm, I haven't seen Forest Gump in such a long time. Actually I saw again it last year, I just don't remember how Forest the kid ran when trying to get away from those bullies and the vietamese.

Man, what a great movie, it was so much funnier after I took AP US History in High School. Awsome work at reviving an old movie Sanc.

may i just make a small wish here?

i would really like a replacement for the "walking with a AT weapon" anim..

i would like a anim where the AT gunner moves a bit faster, like switching the position of the AT weapon from having it on his shoulder to holding it over his chest (similar to a ordinary rifle) and then running like normal instead of the current one where he walks extremly crouched with the AT weapon on his shoulder...

ofcourse, this would mean you would somehow make so that you cant fire the weapon when running with it (that would kill you since you would place the rocket/whatever on the ground just to the left of you left foot.

anyone NOT understanding how i mean?

i could paint a "stringman" demonstrating how i want the unit to hold the weapon....

something like that, but when stopping going back in kneeling position and returning the launcher to the normal shooting position...

like, holding it a bit like the rifle on the sprinting animation seen in the first post of this thread...

The running anim is superb, the wobble as the weight shifts from foot to foot makes this look excellent. Good job!

I personally don't have any major problem with Sanctuary's animations addons. I think they're worlds better then the old BIS ones overall. The main problem is the limitations the game engine places on how animations are used. For example, as far as I know you can't make seperate animations for only snipers or for soldiers carrying SMG's.

The last review of Armed Assault mentioned something about updated animation systems, so hopefully it will solve that problem.

But other then a few minor nitpicks I think that you did a pretty damn good job Sanctuary. Now all we need is for BIS to improve the AI so that they take cover behind buildings, stack before entering a building or area, and lean around building corners to fire at an enemy. For sure that is not a simple programing feat to accomplish so I'm not holding my breath. Nevertheless, that along with better atmospheric sounds (like the ECP mod provides) will go a looong way towards making Armed Assault a worthy successor of OFP.

Since you mention AI leaning, do any of you know if the AI lean in OFP:Elite? I'm guessing not, but maybe?

I love the previous release of the lean, Sanctuary. Makes OFP a totally different animal. I'll try this update when I get a chance. Thanks,

And it seems that while you are busy you keep cranking out the good stuff and the options.

Miles Teg - it is possible to make moves for soldiers carrying different weapons. The prime example is made by our Russian friends, ORCS.

ICP_Anims.

Contains different animations for Russian riflemen, grenadiers, machinegunners, RPG gunners, RPK automatic riflemen and SVD-equipped snipers.

The problems:

1. The thing is currently config-buggy, causes random crashes during combat.

2. If a PK-configged soldier picks up an AK - things don't look too good.

i always thought you could make your own animation for an addon and then in the addon config tell it to use that addon instead. But i could be wrong.

Anyway great work sanctuary looks very nice.
