You need to download Steam and DoD:S, it's still free to play for about 38 hours. Downloaded it the night before and started playing yesterday night, it's a very nice game IMHO. thumbs-up.gif

Wasted some time with it in 2001-2002 but now especially with this flood of generic ww2 shooters.. meh.

Ah cmon steam aint so bad :P

I own DOD:s (and every other source game, bought silver package biggrin_o.gif )

Its pretty fun, great for a online multiplayer fix...the sound effects (the way they become muffled in the background, etc) are very well done. Not to mention the graphics are pretty good.

Its just pure, fast-paced, online action.

The sounds become muffled at about 25ft away. Too close.

Also, this free weekend has invited people who say(And I quote) "how do u ly down" or "what is teh knife for" and similar comments.

It's fun watching them rush out infront of an MG or a bunch of snipers...

The maps are very small, so if they weren't you wouldn't get the background noises effect. And its not like it actually affects gameplay-its simply cool.

omg w3lcome 2 99% of t internet lolz

Seriously though, the literacy of players does not determine how they play, common misconception. It just means people cannot type as fast as the rest of us.

Is anyone irked by the fact that you have to pay now for something that used to be free?

Well I guess I dont really care anyways, I cant run it on my PC anymore.

If it still was made on voluntary basis I doubt you'd have anything to play at all, not to mention this kind of technical quality.

Nothing wrong with Steam so far the games doesn't need a Starforce protection so \o/ . But then comes DoD:S I haven't been enable to connect to a server perhaps because I'm on a LAN I don't know... very weird I wanted to test this version really badly because I've played the old DoD for so many countless hours smile_o.gif.

Downloaded it Thursday but I haven't hadn't an opportunity to play it 'til last night/this morning. It's fun for a while but it's not to my taste, it's too fast-paced. I don't think it modifies the gameplay of plain old HL2 or CS:S to warrant me buying it either; feels like CS but with recoil. Looks pretty though.

I'll stick to playing Red Orchestra for the time being. No WW2 FPS has even come close to that in my opinion, and it's a million miles away from the engine it was developed for.  Ostfront '41-'45 (also coming to Steam) should blow this away.

It's sad to see more and more people support things like Steam or GMail. Data protection? Reliability? Who cares... banghead.gif

But go on if you like. I've seen many games companies come and go in the last two decades...

why is it so sad its a good idea

game devs to have more say over

there work without someone like

EA screwing it up for them.

I really enjoy DOD:S as well.

I think it modifies CS:S gamplay significantly. The various roles you play and the weapons associated with these roles seem balanced and there is more of a team effort than CS which feels like simply a bunch of individuals acting at once rather than together.

The fact that you have to capture objectives, that MG's are useless until "deployed" (and therefore making you vulnerable) are all very appealing.

Sounds are great, action is continuous. It's no simulator but it could teach us Flashpoint players a bit more about teamwork in fast and furious situations.

Had a great game last night in which it all just gel-ed together for our team. Snipers and MG's would clear an approach for the Assault guys. When they captured a position the MG's would move up to hold the new territory with snipers covering them. It was the first time I felt like some seasoned verterans were on there. We were able to capture enemy territory in a matter of minutes. Very cool :-)

sounds like 'return to castle wolfenstein' almost - still unrivalled in my books in terms of Multiplayer and teamwork - the lack of health and ammo 'pickups' and the only source of health and ammo being from your teammates, forced teamwork

didnt bother download DoD as i really couldnt be bothered with a 600mb download to only play it for a day whistle.gif
