Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

Recommended Posts

Comparing it to the console version is just wrong. The console version is rubbish like more fps-games on consoles.

The only things the PC and console version share are the voice dialogs, locations and story. The rest have been made from scratch for the PC.

Looking from a gameplay-angle I think GRAW has some GR1 and RvS elements in it along with a bunch of new stuff.

Did I mention I've never seen so well designed levels before?

They are by far the best and most detailed I've seen considering the huge size.

Levels are pretty fun and the game is aswell, i like the gfx too.

What i cannot take is the difficulty..it´s not even because of the friendly ai -they´ve saved me many times now- but at some points the game is too frickin hard for me.

I´m trying to get past the "save vip 2" section in mission 2 or 3 since yesterday (about 10 tries), and just cannot make it! crazy_o.gif

Thats level 3. You need to carry the VIP to the first blackhawk that lands. Then when all the waves of enemies are defeated a second BH will come and pick you up. There are 3 waves of enemies, each with one Abrams. First north, then from south and finally one Abrams from the east.

The first bhawk lands between the first and second wave. Make sure that second Abrams (coming from the south) dont blow up the helo while you carry the VIP.

Yes that´s my "hate" level crazy_o.gif

Rescueing the vip is the easier part, but during the second wave i always get shot by either the tank or a badguy who got to close because of my shitty weapon selection (that second thing from above, with silencer and gl) ._:

Yeah, the XM8 stinks.

I usually go with one of the SCARs with a scope and SD.

Heard on G4 this game is all scripts. Just a futuristic version of MOH.

Well G4 might have been mistaken when they say it's all scripts because in the demo at the very start of the first missions you can go one of two ways. 1 way takes you directly infront of the enemy and they immeditaly start firing on you as soon as you step on the same street as them or you can go another way which takes you and your team behind them. My guess is that the G4 people got a bad first impression by going the more direct way which seems scripted and all but it's just the AI seeing you. sooo bleh.

The only scripts I've noticed is spawning of units. Wether it be friendly or enemy, but not in a way to make your game more challenging. I get the feeling they do it to save system resources.

There are never unlimited spawns in the game.

This game seems so plastic to me for some reason. The roadways are so narrow and it doesn't feel like a real city at all, coupled with the fictive future setting i can feel it's a game, must be all the shiny twinkling indicators on screen.

What is the crye gun?

You only have these :

Primary: M99, MK48, SCAR -l and -h, XM8 and MR-C.

Secondary: M9, Glock18, XM8-compact and MP5SD.

Tertiary: ammo primary, ammo secondary, extra grenades and Zeus (Javelin).

Why? huh.gif

Got any history and tech-spec on this funny looking rifle?

Quote[/b] ]Recently, the Crye Associates Modular Rifle - Caseless (MR-C) caseless rifle has been revealed as the standard infantry weapon to be used as in conjunction with the Future Force Warrior system. By most accounts, it is likely to be chambered in 6.8mm caseless ammunition and a 45 round magazine. At this time, no actual working model has been produced and Crye has only produced mockups for usability testing and demonstration.

The FFW will also have a new experimental weapon called the ElectroDart. It is a type of gun which delivers electric shocks to the opposing enemy through wires when the gun is fired. The voltage of the gun is roughly 50000 volts.

Under the FFW ATD, the Army's Lethality Vision proposes an integrated, advanced, lightweight weapons system with fire control software and hardware that is optimized for urban combat. The infantryman would be able to synchronized direct and indirect fires from Future Combat System and other networked platforms.

Oh great. We get a funny looking weapon that does'nt even exist. I'm surprised they did'nt try to make a M29 OICW. Atleast that is in some kind of working model.

Thanks for the info, Goob.

Which doesn't exist -yet-

Alot of armed forces are looking into telescopic and caseless ammunitions for both small arms and vehicle mounted devices. What was attempted a couple of decades ago with the HK G11 may one day come true with the advances and sophistication in matter of gun internals, alloys, bullets, propellant compounds, and shell casings. What was just and expensive toy to test out cool-ass Sci-Fi concepts might come true one day.

Human morphology won't change all that much in the coming 100 years, yet the evolution of warfare implies that more and more, the load has to be split between electronics (which are bound to become some ever more vital components of a trooper's gear), weapons, ammunition, non-combat life items and protective devices. It only makes sense to develop a lighter ammunition that would reduce the soldier's burden and make him more efficient. Also take into consideration that those fancy exo-skeletons still have a long way to go before being of any use on a battlefield and being as mobile as a more or less lightly kitted soldier.

Add to that the fact that caseless ammo could offer more deniability when acting covert, make it harder for the enemy to track your movements and identify your weapons assets by looking at the grounds you occupied after an engagement; it would be a lot more environment friendly; it wouldn't add the supplementary thermal glow caused by the casings around a man that's shooting at night (which doesn't last all that long if the casings get cooled by the elements but which is characteristic through recent thermal sensors and sights), etc etc etc, the list goes on, but above all it's lighter and lighter means either more room for other mission specific gear for the same rifle lethality or just more room for ammo which easily runs out.

Another detail is that it can be safer than some of the good old brass casing ammo and if the caseless ammo uses high ignition temperature compounds as propellant and body. That means less risks of cook-offs or at least more time to get the hell away.

The MR-C is just a drawing board fantasy and a plastic mockup at the moment but the US Defense Technical Information Center published a couple of interesting .pdf files about caseless projects.

I´m pretty sure that caseless ammo will be the followup to the ammo that is in use today. Anyway there are some downsides right now as they are still under developement:

- Exposure to humidity and water can affect the ammo

- Exposure to UV can affect the ammo

- There are problems with the feeding mechanisms at almost

all of the prototypes.

- Gas containment sealing over a period of time is another one

- Remains of the burnt ammo do cause inflictions with feeding and

gas sealing aswell

If they got those sorted out the benefits for users will be great.

Yep, gotta admit that I don't see myself cleaning a caseless gun.

I'm sure the guys working on it will find something ... Afterall, did our ancestors back in the early 19th century ever imagine that one day that we'd belt feed our weapons with pointy metal alloy thingies stuck on the end of a brass casing filled with a propellant that's able to send that bullet up to several kilometers away and that we could do so 800 or more times in a minute smile_o.gif

Today I managed to finish the last mission. GRAW is indeed very difficult. Without the autosaves it`s impossible to finish a mission. The mission design is very nice and the graphics are nice as well (I`m one of the happy guys with a Geforce 7800GS AGP smile_o.gif ) .

What I didn`t like is the AI. My troops often run as if being blindfolded into enemy fire, enemy troops often don`t care when the guy next to them gets killed and so on...

It would be nice if you had more command options for your squaddies (like in OFP: get prone, find cover, ...) which would make the levels a little bit easier.

We`ll see what a future patch will bring. So far the game was worth it`s price.

Run! Just run, it worked for me on some places tounge2.gif

(team doesnt survive it and its not good for your health, but if your near the end of a mission its OK to do  tounge2.gif )

(Im at a quite irritating point now, i need to run 450 meters to one of those "scrambler" things, then i get killed because the enemy is in some heavily fortified alley, i have to reload, run again, etc  crazy_o.gif )

EDIT: Btw, the only weapon i use is that SCAR-L with a grenade launcer, and some extra grenades for it tounge2.gif )

The game is not that hard really. The best tactic in this game is to take it very slow. There are no timed events at all in this game (except synched triggers). Franze and I have gone through some of the maps gunz blazing (but mostly hit the dirt). In coop there are no saves. Can be frustrating at times, but usually I just blame it on Franze and tell him to go more slowly the next time biggrin_o.gif

We finished Bulldog today (clear out 2 roadblock and then...) by the skin of our teeth. Both of us were critically injured while the 2 AI were uninjured. We got our asses handed to us on Ready for Bear. If the Havocs did'nt get us then one of our Abrams we were escorting bought it.
