An Najaf map beta release

maybe i should change DXDLL settings a bit...

textures are quite sharp now and i have set very little glare.

It looks waaaay better but i need to get rid of the lag.

Perhaps i should get another 512MB DDRAM...

If tested the map with various view distances and units, and also the amount of units doing various tasks.

The maximum my pc could do without causing the lag to be too much would be like.

up to 12 vehicles driving a route...

up to 10 groups of soldiers, when not far from eachother it goes better.

and well you have to think smaller missions basicly, but that makes it harder cuz you need more detail!

But Ive also done full armoured assaults on a heavily defended south side and it whent reasonably well with the lag.

Also viewdistance changes allot, when your in the city itself you only need 800 meters... also screen resolution affects the whole lag thingy, and offcourse the ofp settings themselves.

As a matter of fact ive been replacing the BIS graves with some nice new ME type plots...courtesy of Pilot......

check out ofp.org in the forums a link can be found further up in this post......got some screens on some new areas....

LOD's have to be adjusted to cut back on some lag but the area sure looks like a ME cemetary now....

Still going so please post any comments or suggestions here...

I hope that you will port this island to Armed Assault.

It`s nearly impossible to take teammates with you in the town, they walk trough the walls and end up in an backyard without an exit.

This is not the fault of Goon, it`s the collision detection of OFP1.

You're right Mr.Tea, but there could be chance of a work-around or even to avoid that problem.

When i've been working on my walls for the arabic objects pack i encountered same problem - loons walking thru as they

weren't there, but then i discovered that once a wall piece

with en entrance is inculuded in the same wall line, they

decide not to walk through anymore - weird isn't it?

I'm still trying to fiddle out what aspects must be taken into

account to make buildings work as supposed to, but for sure

this can take lot of testing attempts, until ofp enlightens it's

secret on that one.

Goon I hope you will be doing good on this one!

It's my Favourite Iraq map, and I would say THE BEST ONE EVER!

When I play on your map, I've got real Iraq feeling somehow (as far as I can think of Iraq)

This is bloody awesome, the town, the landscape, everything!

Does the AI folow the roads OK?

Got them using other roads to flank me in missions...

And wait till ya see the update...thanks to Pilots new cemetary objects.. notworthy.gifnotworthy.gif

They really spruce things up!!!

Just a few more areas to place and the buildings should be done.

Gotta add a few more roads and alot of vegetation, and rocks.

I'll get an update ready ASAP!!!!

Really busy lately so keep a look out next week some time..

hate to say,but CATSHIT afgan houses pretty much fuck up the sightseeing tour. confused_o.gif

i suggest using more tonal-like houses.i mean those white ones.

no offence.

but be careful with placing objects,if you plan to make huge ares full off stuff,then it will mean lag.big amounts of lag. whistle.gif

Sorry about the lack of updates for the graves, life has gotten busy for me too. I do have one lod finished, I am just thinking about how to accomplish the other lods.

Some new areas have been added. also much of the little details are being done! and the surrounding terrain is getting better!

The airport is 99% done wit hall the surrounding fence completed.Gonna add some small stuff from the Mapfact addons to make it more used looking.

Working on finishing the road network around the main areas.

A complete route is now 98% done with some of the intersections to still be completed.

Manhunter is right...adding some new areas.

They include ... a US forces base

A Refinery and pipeline

And... The famous Najaf munitions depot.

These will be the last major areas that i'll include.

Adding desert bushes and palms as I go, trying to liven the area a bit...

Nice to hear from ya guys...and Manhunter..hows the new intro coming? Would love to see it soon.

Sorry no units planned as of yet.....but the island itself wasnt supposed to be so complicated....

so who knows...someone may add some new addons like Pilot and his graves....but none planned by me.
