DVD contains 1 self extracting exe containing the following folders (their names not mine) and my gueses to their contents based on the read-me's:

Anim Replacement - Santuary Animation Pack 1.5 Patrol Pack

Blackhawks - BAS_Blackhawks version 1.00, BAS_SOAR version 2.00

CATIntro - no sure,pbo size 79,794KB

DXDLL - self explanitary

Good Lookin' Troops - YK Modern U.S. Army Infantry Pack - Version 1.52

High Detail Skies - LlauMax sky pack Version 1.2

Lean-Rolling Animation - OFP Animations Enchancement V 0.52 Beta

Two Islands - Anjou 1939-1944 V1.3 SE

Weapons for Good Lookin' Troops - Jam 2 files

I presume PC Format seeked permission. Hope this brings fame and fortune to all those involved. Hope that this may save someone a download.

I realise that most people just download this kind of stuff anyway but there seems to be more and more of this type of stuff as ArAs gets closer. Worth having a dedicated thread?

hmmm

well, i think pc magazines circumvent the 'non profit from addons' by offering the CD's as free additions to the magazine - hence how they distribute demo's, addons, mods etc without problems.

its very good news that PC magazines still take interest in OFP. PC Gamer still admit to being avid fans of the series and are keen to welcome Armed Assault.

good job those guys who got onto the CD (wonders why a UK magazine didnt put any british addons on whistle.gif )

It certainly can't be argued that it was used for profit. The addons aren't mentioned on the front or back of the magazine (sealed) and isn't mentioned on the DVD case. The file is the last item on the menu on side two of the disk and does not refer to any specific mod.

Its a random bunch of addons chosen I must say!

PS its my bosses copy of the disk so no idea whats in the mag itself. Im a PC Gamer reader given the chice

indeed, they rarely advertise the contents of the CD and DVD as their selling point, they're more likely (or at least with PC Gamer - although now i've started getting their 'no thrills' subscriber front cover without all the writing on it) just to refer to it as included and containing demos etc.

like i said, good to see magazines taking interest again smile_o.gif

There's a little article about ofp in the mag, I can scan it tomorrow if anyone wants it. I have a math mock exam tomorrow, so I don't have time atm.

Personnally, i have not been contacted by anyone from this magazine.

But there is no problem with me as long as none is making money from my OFP work that is just totally free to download by anyone, i never saw such CD as being a commercial point for magazines.

Especially considering the amount of magazine that has one or more CD offering mostly the exact same "demo" content each months as the other magazines.

I see those magazine CD as an help for people that has no possiblity to download due to their connection or have never heard about what is on such CD.

I guess not every OFP fan is aware of everything produced by community members, so those magazine cd can be a good thing to promote OFP indirectly for people that has never heard about it and could be potentially interested by what OFP offers.

It is nice to see after all those years there are always some 'paper' magazines that are always interested in OFP.

Too bad they used an old and very ugly version of my anim pack along some other really great addons.

Very interesting.

OFP2 was released a long time ago when BIS released O2 to the public. That's what we own now. Yes, is the same engine, but after all the improvements made by the comunity, I could certanly be fool two or three years ago by looking at pics of OFP looking how it look now(If time trable was possible, lol). First thing would go throught my head is that OFP2 will be released before 2005, when all I was realy seeing was pictures of improvements made by the OFP comunity.

People really have done an amazing face lift to OFP, and that's just as a hoby.

Regards.

@CERO.

Guys

I hate to tell you this but the whole purpose of putting CD's in magazines is to boost interest in the magazine and thus increase sales. So in fact they are making money off of your hard work. What they should have done is put in a page that talks about all the mods out there, and the dedication of the folks like you guys who made these mods and listed links to the mods. Also talk about more of the community. You guys should all be getting royalties off of the sale of the magazine and in fact BIS should be getting royalties (which they may already be doing) because in reality they own all content for OFP.

They havent actually published the fact on the cover that the cd has ofp mods on it, so they are not advertising the fact that if you were to buy the mag, then you will get the cd with flashpoint mods on it. So no royalties should be paid,

Its nice to see a mag having so much praise for this game still. And this only promotes Flashpoint even further to all the guys who havent played it.

(thinks FFUR should send their latest vid to PC gamer to gather more interest in their mod and of the flashpoint game itself) biggrin_o.gif

Hi Jeftec

Thanks for the feedback but I still respectfully disagree. The purpose of any disc advertised or not is to boost sales. Otherwise why incur the cost of making the cd and placing it in the magazine. Thats how magazines make money. Anyways my personal opinion is Kegety, Sanctuary etc. should get some monetary gain out of their work if others are allowed to capitalize on it.

Nice article, thanks for the scan eisa.

Being spoilt with new addons almost everyday, and in a Flashpoint bubble without other games, i guess i just presumed other games, like HL2 and BF2 had this level of community-made-addon dedication too, but reading the article, maybe not.

Hi Gunterlund, if you were to look at most cd's on mags now you will notice that most of the cd you can download off the net. I think the purpose in the days of the cd were when people had 56k connections and it was the quickest way of getting programs without the long wait of a download.

If however a mag came out with a cd that is advertised and tempts you to buy the mag due to its content then i see no probs with people who's work is being used recieving money for their hard work.

As for magazines making money with a little help from their cover cd's, there are other means of recieving large amounts of cash....... Just ask EA biggrin_o.gif

Or should Kegety, Sanctuary etc be charged a cost to cover the costs of the disk production and for being given huge exposure to their readers, the majority of whom wont have heard of these addons?

No, of course not. The whole excersise is of benifit to everyone and can only help to boost interest in ArmAs and the current extensive modding community.

New Info PCGamer(UK) January 2006.

Has an article (and old picture) on both ArmA and OFP2. Will scan this afternoon if/when possible unless anyone has a bit more free time.... No new content that I can establish.

Side 2 of the DVD also has the original review in PDF format for nostalgia fans! I've still got the mag itself somewhere but its a nice read.

Edit - there are some pics on the disk too but they are the 4 from the armedassault web page.
