deltawing trike

duno if its christmas coming soon, or what...but i need a new addon. been checking bis forums for deltawings and couldnt find any. so this is my latest idea for an addon. a deltawing trike! wow_o.gif

i've been diging around the web for blueprints, but i couldnt find any...but luckly i found a website that constructs this trike, and has some couple of small pictures for reference. last tuesday i started to model in 3dsmax and have built the main structure so far.

this is a short (great)movie of the aquilair in action. just can figure how the guy flyes in the midle of the clouds with only a t-shirt!! some photos to.

as u see there are many configurations for this, like weels or snowboards, and with body cover or naked.there's also the question about paint job i should do here..yellow? camouflage? i would like to know your opinion about those options. ty in advance.

i hope i have at least a beta version until christmas.

oh man that sucks!!... i cant see the pbo in action because my pc is getting fixed...any screenshot of it?is it similar to this aquilair? i think i'll quit this project then... i dont want to listen bullshit from plp like i did before. my intencion is not to copy sebastien work. bad coincidence i guess. anyways thanks for the help!

here i go again searching for addons that were never made for ofp...

Yeah, it's pretty much the same as the bottom-right pic. There's also some "militarized" versions in the pbo. Those are fun. tounge2.gif

If its somethign you want to make, make it. Who cares what anyone thinks.

Just make it your own and do something special with it. Decent textures, handling, features, whatever as long as its your model and artwork no one has the right to critise you.

yeah, do carry on - it's a pretty old addon, and had its limitations etc - a newer version is always welcome - perhaps with some nifty start up scripts like black smoke at ignition etc

ty for the coments, but like i sayed before , by the time i made my rf8 i was wishing a snow vehicle, and there was none built that i know. then at midle of my work , i found sebastien website and the nkl26 he made. the nkl26 and rf8 operate together in ww2, so they similar but totaly diferent at same time. so i contacted sebastien on email and asked him some help about lots of stuffs ,like the hiding textures, the rotating propeller and many other stuffs. like i mentioned zilion times before i wouldnt make my addon if i hadnt the help of the great artist/guy that bis hired some time after.

so right after the release of rf8, i read in some russians ofp sites some nasty shits, and in other places to. now after 6months of learning all the things related to making an addon, having sucess, and give birth to a really nice addon, i wasnt expected to be called a copyer. that really pissed me off!

so with this addon, the process is being 100% similar. i thought many days about addons that i never see for ofp, made a (bad)searched here (forgot ofp.info), post about the idea, and the first thing i know is that sb already made one!! lol

i think i'm gona email him just for fun, telling this story.

meanwhile i think i'll continue this project when i dont have better ones to do, and if i ever finished i'll use it for playing with my m8's at vetsquad. and if any of u guys from here wants it, ill share it. what i just dont wana see again, is unjustice to my side.

sory for being a winy, but making an addon isnt that easy, so... i'll dig around for other ideas, then 1st thing i have to do is askl sebastien if he ever made it! crazy_o.gif

since i've done this so far, i think i'll continue and finish it. i'm modeling in max this time, so i hope u dont mind that my screenies arent from o2...

thanks for the links lauma! i've tryed the deltawing and its real fun to fly around. one minor detail is the addon date. its a 2002 addon! real advanced stuff for those days...i think 3 years after i can do something more updated ( for those who know sebastien models u can feel that this model is from his early days), maybe with some scripts...

i'll let u guys know when i have a pbo to play around.

hello guys, i'v been working (modeling) again on this vehicle, and i guess its 95% done so far. few details (footpegs,airbox from engine,tubes from radiator and propeller) will be done in the weekend.

the polycount is 1736 polys, and face count is 4117faces. i'm sure i wont go over the 4500faces at the end.

so what u guys think? to many faces? from other threads about vehicles,i think i'm still inside the safe zone. let me know what u think about it.

i got this made so far, but i'm seriously thinking in trying some desert cammo instead of this civilian colors. what u guys think? civilian or cammo?

small update

i've been really busy lately with a big 3d project on my college, so the few time i had since last month was spent on the texturing/cfg/animation/p3d. so far i made this woodland cammo, and maybe i'll make a desert to.

so far the engine is the only part with a crapy texture.

hope to release this very soon, since its almost done.

want to enhance footmunch great help solving some issues on the cfg. very much apreciated bro! notworthy.gif

hello all. its been a while since my last post, but i've been very busy in this last months (luckly with a 3d project, but not for games), which makes me learn a lot of (aparently) small details/techniques on the process of modeling/texturing/rendering.

at this moment i'm baking textures for this model, so that i can use the minimum amount of pac/paa files, and still having a good compromise in the visual quality. i believe this is something that will be mandatory for arma addons , so i decided to start using that method now. so this is what i'm doing at the moment...

now there's some improves i still want to do in my addon, and for one in particular i need some information.so i'm gona ask without making a search (hope i dont call the atencion of boys from somewhere like uKrania crazy_o.gif ).

so basicly i want that my deltawing reacts in a realistic way. when it brakes it moves pitchdown/stall, when it "acelerates" it goes pitchup/dive . when it turns it turns slightly. i've been watching some movies of deltawings and that's how they work in real life.

so i thought..."i'm gona use the name selections from the elevators and airbrakes" and create separated selections with their correct name on, and select the intire wing for all them.

i'm sure this is possible, but my question is how do ofp phisics deals to those selections? are they hardcoded? can i define the axels name selections? the min/max degree of freedom. is there a minimum speed to activate air brakes, or the elevators when turning?

which addon that uses a similar feature should i study?

as u see i have couple of questions that need an answer, so before i start working on the wing feature, i'll finish my textures and start texturing the low poly lod's.

fyi i'm thinking on adding a "radio" feature like i did in the rf8. it worked really well and it seems logical to have it in this kind of air vehicle. so instead of listening the engine sound all the time, u can listen the tunes who want, just placing a sound file in the mission pbo, and call it a specific name like "music1.ogg" or something like that.

i hope to finish this until end of july so i'll keep posted.any sugestions/help is apreciated. ty!

AFAIK those named selections, their movement angles and parameters are hard-coded, you cannot config them confused_o.gif There are ways to get around these limitations but they require some nice O2+config+function wizardry, a great suck...

i've been looking to some planes cfg and to that old bis file with all the classes description, and i cant find any reference to wings elevators/ailerons axes and angles. so for my unhappiness, i could confirm what LizardX just told me. its hardcoded so there's not much i can do. so bye bye realistic wing, and hello again static wing!..

meanwhile i'm almost finishing the textures for the main lod.been working with photoshop, and finaly made a decent texture for the engine headers/pipe. very happy with the result, finally made those weldings look real.i'm still experimenting diferent cammo, and thats the hardest part...still cant found a texture that pleases me...but its getting closer to end i hope. cya soon.
