Spy17 1 Posted November 23, 2005 OFP was one of the first games where you where able to switch off most of the icons on screen. except some: -Target indicator -way point indicator -some cross hairs (tankgunner, M2...) For me they are emersion killers and I absolutely do not need them! Can you please make them switch off-able! Should not be a difficult thing to change. A bit more complicated: Can you please make all fuel bars and even worse damage bars switch off-able! I would love to look at real gauges! (you can in the cars) All in all: Make all help markers and symbols switch off-able. I only want to see what I would see with my own eyes in a real environment! It would make the game more pure and emmersive! (OF course it should still be possible to use them. I understand some people think it is better to use them) I know this is an old issue all the way back from the beginning of OFP. Just wanted to bring in a little reminder before the next product comes on the market. Because I think this can not be moddet by the community. Hope suma reads it! Dowie100 0 Posted November 23, 2005 you played Darwinia? Thats got a clear screen style hud
NeMeSiS 11 Posted November 23, 2005 Actually, by editing the config.bin it IS possible to remove the HUD, i just did it  (except for the action menu, the game is unplayable without it ) EDIT: but little buttons are easier
Spy17 1 Posted November 23, 2005 Can you also remove the target marker? Never saw it done in a mod... Would like to see it as a feature in the new game anyway!
NeMeSiS 11 Posted November 23, 2005 Can you also remove the target marker? The what? if you mean the crosshair, try the difficulty options  EDIT: or start playing in veteran mode
Spy17 1 Posted November 23, 2005 read my post! The target marker is the yellow box arround a target your comander assigns to you.
.kju 3245 Posted November 23, 2005 should be doable if you either change the texture to some different (if thats possible) or at least you should be able to change the texture itself.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted November 23, 2005 Should be somewhere in the Data.pbo, cant find it though  EDIT: found it, it is T_basic.paa EDIT2: bwah, removing it has no effect
Indy 0 Posted November 23, 2005 Should be somewhere in the Data.pbo, cant find it though  EDIT: found it, it is T_basic.paa EDIT2: bwah, removing it has no effect  if you just remove it you will probably see a blank square instead of it, you should try to replace the texture with an invisible one (using alfa channel). The right texture is probaly in the data.pbo file contained in the hwtl folder

Dynamax 0 Posted November 23, 2005 um i think on vet-mode with a few changes and you wont have that yellow square any more.. i play on FragHaus and the only thing we have there is the action menue. no cross hairs, action boxes (go to, attack, target, waypoints). Spy17 1 Posted November 25, 2005 Like I said: People have been trying to switch these off from the beginning. It does not seem to be possible. Should not be a problem for BIS though.
Skulleye 0 Posted November 25, 2005 It wouldn't be very realistic to disable the waypoint indicators, as you don't get detailed enough instructions from your squad leader. If you're told "Go to bush 9 o' clock" and you see bushes all around you, what are you supposed to do? Or you can be ordered to "Engage target 12 o' clock". Hmm.. is it the car over there, or maybe the BMP? Note: It's a long time since I've played, so I'm not sure that my examples are valid. But I think similar situations can happen at least
Spy17 1 Posted November 26, 2005 That´s why I want it to be optional. You like it, I do not. A new option would make the two of us happy.
aus_twisted 0 Posted November 26, 2005 Off topic   at these Armed Assault forums, sorry didn't have many topics to choose from to reply to. Anyway, I agree that there should be options to turn everything off and on, you can always use DXDLL with menu's off, makes it interesting when ya press Esc and cant find the mouse pointer or menu's to click on lol. Skulleye 0 Posted November 28, 2005 That´s why I want it to be optional. You like it, I do not. A new option would make the two of us happy. Of course. I don't mean that you shouldn't have the option. I'm just saying that I don't think the game gets more realistic if you disable waypoints, because you won't get enough information. I feel that the most realistic current option is how Veteran difficulty does it, by fading the waypoint marker after a few seconds. I'm all for having the possibility of enabling/disabling everything. More power to the user!
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted November 29, 2005 Yea, the waypoint marker should stay... but then fade away after a few seconds... atleast with waypoints very near.. I think its okay that waypoints like "ED54" wouldnt show up on screen...
Spy17 1 Posted November 29, 2005 My point is there should be a option to disable all markers on screen! And this should only be an option. I never really use / need them! BIS made a good start your Officers tell you where to go/ aim. It is not verry precise but good enough. You do not really have to navigate by map or the stars if you have a huge yellow waypoint marker!
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted November 29, 2005 Not really precise... the offier doesnt point in which direction when giving orders. Which makes it very hard to follow orders. Also the "move to bush, 500"... where the BIIIP is that? lol
Spy17 1 Posted November 29, 2005 I agree it is not verry helpfull. But does it have any impact on mission outcome if you follow his precise orders or not? No! (same with these idiotic markers of position if in formation) To get a icon over your commander when you get lost is also lame! Stick to your men and you will not get lost! So away with the icons! More precise orders or handsigns would be welcome!
