House Divided.

Hiya guys, great work on all this stuff, i'm a big fan of this era. I went to see a fictional reinactment this summer between the 1st Rhode Island Company B and the 12th Georgia vol. infantry Company F. Was very cool stuff!

While touring the encampments, i came across one of the first Rocket batteries with multiple variance's in delivery and rockets size's. Which perhaps was used in the battle when our national anthem was written. I was abit awestruck and took only one pic cause i wasn't aware of their existance. If i knew how to post the pic here i would...

Wouldn't that be the American War Of Independance, and not the American Civil War? huh.gif

Ah well in any case jarvo welcome to this thread wink_o.gif

Yep I think it may well be the war of independence ur referrring to my friend however, let us not concern ourselves with that (unless our historical advisors wish too, hehe theres no stopping them!wink_o.gif

As regards to rocket batteries, sure i will consider including them if you can find any historical evidence they were used, I think they would be thrilling to utilise in battle, especially in the sieges we hope to represent in this mod wink_o.gif

"The Star-Spangled Banner" was written by Francis Scott Key as he watched the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

EDIT: lol, sorry Gavinthecat: Couldn't stop myself...

Alright once last post before bed,

A new injury system has been drawn up,

This will lead to the creation of approximatley 3 new injured animations, these are for men hit of course, and will consist of them lying, clutching themselves, and basically being on the ground wounded in agony, for approximately 30 secs, until they can gather their strength and give it one last blast.

This will lead to some spectacular and tragic sites, for example mortars and explosions may kill some, but visibly, and i mean VISIBLY injure many.

This violent and graphic system should be accompanied by sounds and such like.

Also, we shall if possible, mix death anims with dying anims that lead to death. We in all want to create like i say a battlefield with genuine animated

life - wounded - dying - death

Note, also that the AI will still shoot those lying stricken or wounded, including the bayoneting of them.

Well it was a ghastly war, and this new level of cruelty and tragedy i do not think would be out of place.

EDIT// its 1:30 am here? not 2:30 er how do i go change this system clock?!

Will you have multiple wounded and multiple dying anims? Because if they are all doing the same thing at the same time after an explosion it would look rather amusing rather than tragic lol...

<envisions scenes of synchronised dying> lol rofl.gif

lol well the injury anims i think there are two or three, so lol, it won't be just one, however there obviously can't be loads because well just imagine trying to animate them all.

In fact just try animating one bloody frame, its a pain in the arse, so i think 2 or possibly 3 injury anims of the sort described is about the best any 'normal' human can manage before going crazy!

lol anyway we'll try and get some more pics up soon just fixing eee ol' weapons coding for the new single pbo smile_o.gif

Here is the 1st infantry Tennessee

http://www.first-tennessee.co.uk/origphotos.htm

there are individual pics,

I have notice alot of brigades in my searches. You could just do it by states and then name them later. each Brigade is named after the leader, "Grays Brigade" and so forth.

There is 8 states on each side with a few mixed with both. Some were Volunteer regiments so they wore whatever they brought. In other words you can add a couple volunteer companys for scrubs anywhere in any state.

The north had repeater rifles towards the end. It would be nice to have the option of retreiving their repeater rifle if the south wins a battle. Mind you not all companies had these and maybe a few men in each.

The cannons could be like the tanks gun. you can either put a bunch of nails in it and fire like a scattergun or shoot a ball down the field. that will be cool.

I'm looking for the louisaina tigers uniforms..

Okay was a day or so to post again but here i am! dada!

Right well hi josh, welcome to this thread, and yeah post some pics of that regiment, I would love to see em' and we can very well include them.

I would like to take the opportunity now, to inform you all of a wonderful arrangement that has been negotiated with the fast and talented modeller shinkansen of the WW1 mod.

If you pop over to their thread you will see some of the models he is working on.

In our agreement, they have agreed to produce a variety of ship models, (which i believe to be fairly extensive) a number of houses and buildings etc (a town basically) and finally a civil war era fort, which will be a highlight of the map.

In exchange I shall be providing them with a number of WW1 soldier unit templates, that they will be free to alter and expand upon.

This exclusive agreement, will see our mod jump along in the speed which which our already fairly quick devleopment has been going wink_o.gif

So hurrah for Dixie!

Hi,

here are some early screenshots to show what I am doing and to ask if some similar ideas have been already made or if someone would like to texture some of the objects and for other useful comments and ideas.

All houses are enterable, you can climb on the roof and if you are a really lucky guy you can jumb from one block to the next.

The last big project is a fortress, first I had Fort Sumter in my mind, but it is too big, so I made a small version of it. This fort will need a 60m x 60 m square on the map. So I think there is no need to split the fort in several parts, but that have to be carefully tested on a map.

Actually the Wild West, and the most famous battles between indians and the ''low life, home invading trash'' ( tounge2.gif ) occured after the US Civil War, and would fit right in with our Wild West/Civil War island, units and objects. It isn't planned though (yet?).

great job on the western town.

one last comment on the Brigade and regiment issue. After more research, "Brigades" were really considered "Campaigns".

Using small individual regiments would fit perfectly into the scenerio. ( small team involved in big battle or long march)

Brigades would make up of a series of battles just as a campaign would. Your doing an excellent job staying small at first,, GOOD WORK

The Western town loooks good, To make things easier on the map maker, you can just have a stock series of "false fronts" that attaches to any series of stock buildings.

Back in the day they ordered these buildings through a cataloge ( Sears, Montgomery Ward) and the train would haul them out, the minute a track was laid down. This is the reason for Dodge city to start off with a sod building,,, no train tracks yet. After they built the building, (on a narrow lot preplanned by railroad city officials) they would add later, their own "false front" to make it appear to be a different type of business, new attractive. Back in the day they wrote about how the saloons all had the same interior but the outsides were different. It messed with their heads sometimes.

The 2 story buildings are the coolest but i imagine the hardest,, a couple famous hotels back then was The Great Western Hotel ( straight square no balcony) and Maxwell House, ( 2 ranch looking two story with workers quarters )

As far Indians go,,,, watch how you do it,, We only fought A COUPLE INDIAN TRIBES,,, not ALL the Indians,,, Only a few rebel indian tribes resisted and fought back (Midwest, from Mexico to Canada)

Many Indian scouts from friendly tribes helped the calvary defeat them. sometimes a hundred indian scouts would go (Crow Indian) with a regiment.

The Indians (Kiowa, Apache, Dakota's) attacked DURING the Civil War not just afterwards, just go ask Texas!!! this is the reason for the war remaining on the EAST side. When all the men were away fighting the war, the indians raided farms and hung babies from hickory trees by their throat, and captured woman as slaves. AFter the war, people started hearing the stories and they were outraged,,, thus the indian wars started shortly after,, it was another,,, Campaign for the White house.

I am a Western researcher and if you have any questions i will be happy to send photo's of famous towns and buildings.

Right oh, well im again very pleased at the new 3d models of buildings being completed, definately shinkansen it is those basic 3d structures, of houses, hotels, bar type places that are the most vital for our island.

F1.jpg

I've posted this more relevantly in the ww1 mod thread, but just to keep u posted on what we're doing in exchange for models, its a range of basic, foundation units u could say, for the french, british and germans, not an enormous diversion, but a nice chance to cooperate.

For more details on these u can check the ww1 thread

Have just had an idea, tell me what you think.

The first branch of the Ku Klux Klan was established in Pulaski, Tennessee, in May, 1866. A year later a general organization of local Klans was established in Nashville in April, 1867. Most of the leaders were former members of the Confederate Army and the first Grand Wizard was Nathan Forrest, an outstanding general during the American Civil War. During the next two years Klansmen wearing masks, white cardboard hats and draped in white sheets, tortured and killed black Americans and sympathetic whites. Immigrants, who they blamed for the election of Radical Republicans, were also targets of their hatred. Between 1868 and 1870 the Ku Klux Klan played an important role in restoring white rule in North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Despite the stigma that is attached to the KKK, I think it would be relevant to the mod if they were included, considering what an incredibly powerful force they were in the post-war years, which is the period which House Divided is covering.

I don't think that I really need to post a picture of the KKK uniform lol, its pretty universally known... also I don't want to get by anyone for 'inciting racial hatred' confused_o.gif . Anyhoo, the sort of thing I had in mind would have them as a primarily 'civilian' group, with units carrying either nothing, American flags or flaming crosses. Also perhaps a flaming cross object might be relevant. A 'resistance' model might also be used which could be armed, as I'm sure you know they were rather violent.

This is just a suggestion; if anyone has any strong objections on moral grounds etc please voice them, I'm just suggesting the Klan on a historical basis. Cheers,

Biv
