Lol, yeah okay well i'll check out about including those boy's you mentioned, after all if ya had some family members who served wink_o.gif So no probs mate, still tho that leaves us with 14? doesnt it to go?

As regards to AKs lol, we'll I'd get my head chewed off my the historians, and even worse than good ol' historians, by wannabe pretentious scum who'd love every opportunity to make my life that one inch more miserable just so they can sip their starbuck coffees in glee, thinking of me etc.

*ahem* oh... well anyway of course when the mod is released, you can remove their guns in the editor and replace them with AK's for counterfactual history scenarios such as those popular novels you mention wink_o.gif

ALSO a thank you to I44, that has lent us some scripting advice (that another ww2 mod which shall not be mentioned was quite scummy to our request for help) but good old I44, so 3 cheers for them, cos they made my smoke scripting that little bit easier wink_o.gif

If I have any time to spare I'll make a Gatling gun (and if I can find good pics etc...help in finding good pics is welcome whistle.gif )

Alright just to bombard you with more replies (and why not its our thread after all)

Here is a list of the firearms I intend to add, bearing in mind however, that muskets and carbines, while different (only actually look so' different) That said also, the old code had only ONE class of ammo, for all muskets, so the AI would fire at the same ranges, and all would travel at the same speed, (incidentally dispersion too tho not related to ammo of course)

Anyway to cut a long story short, these varieties of muskets done, and about to be done, will have diverse and interesting effects on gameplay, and hence are more relevant than you may at first imagine. Secondly they I believe will add an enormous wealth of weaponry that will provide our mod great depth. It may even make the collection and use of different firearms interesting.

--- More Carbines

Colt Long Arms

Richmond Carbine

Morse Carbines

Chapman Musketoon

Terry Pattern Carbine (interesting early bolt action)

Tarpley Carbine

Starr Cavalry Carbine

Maynard Carbine

Merril Carbine

Burnside Carbine (so burnside was good for something)

--- Muskets & Rifles

(many of these muskets will give the rebs much variety) BUT AGAIN I SAY, this artwork cleverly shares resources, so we want have lag for this ok wink_o.gif

Remington Rifle - (a peculiar choice to some but...)

Silver Plate Henry Rifle (as opposed to earlier bronze we have)

Belgian Pattern 1842 Rifle

Kerr's Patent Rifle

Palmetto Armory Model 1842

Flintlock (antique 1820 style musket)

--- Pistols

Model 1836 Flintlock (lt hunter did a great model for this)

Colt Army 1848

Pocket Revolver 1849

Webley  (not uncommon during the war believe it or not)

Richmond Rifle-Musket

Fayetteville Rifle

Many other pistols were made by small arms or designers with names less reconisable, and some of these which look particularly attractive may be included also.

Anyway don't panic in thinking that we're gonna spend like the next 10 years making all these guns, in fact these will be quicker than you imagine, and are taking place to occupy the time of some of our junior addon makers who are having to wait while i reconstruct the code of our mod (from our shared cwmod roots) to something wholley different and more efficient (getting rid of all the extra pbos, merging etc)

--- TO HUNTER

Great stuff, and of course Hunter i should add gentleman has made a marvelous 'DICTATOR' siege mortor, and a smaller Caehorn Mortar models that look great, and that we will be texturing soon, (almost completing our replacements for artillery.)

Looking good gav, thanks for adding the Remington Rifle (you can use it for the United Turner Rifles).

I'm going to be out today, so I will try and get you a bunch of regiments for tonite. I've got a couple in mind, but I need to do the research. Well anyway, keep up the good work! smile_o.gif

Maybe every so often Gavinthecat, you could post a list of all the regiments - starting to lose track of them all rofl.gif. I'll have a look see in my local library today for any tomes on the Civil War - see what intriguing volunteer regiments I can find.

P.S. When you referred to the "Whitfield" rifle in one of your recent posts, id you mean "Whitworth"? If not, then a Whitworth is needed!

As to Remington, apart from the Springfields they produced for the Union War effort, their own model of rifle was veeery nice. And since it ties up with Biv's suggestion of the United Turner Rifles, then all the better!

Got another Pennsylvania Volunteers unit for you... the 155th. These guys had some seriously colourful uniforms, as you can see in the picture below:

155th_pennsylvania_regiment_1864_lg.jpg

Anyway this regiment was at many of the important battles of the Civil War, such as Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, The Wilderness, Cold Harbour and the siege of Petersburg, to name but a few. I figured you'd like them mostly because of the uniform, which consists of a red fez with blue tassel, light blue jacket with yellow trim and yellow/red embroidery as seen in the picture. The regiment was armed with 'Austrian' rifles at the beginning of the war (am unsure of any Austrian rifles... any ideas? You probably know Harley lol) but by the end they had Springfields, so if we can't figure out what these Austrian rifles were then you can just use those.

Anyway as usual tell me if you need anything else etc...

Here is another good Union regiment. The 18th Massachusetts were famous for their imported French Chasseurs a pied uniform which was awarded to them for their skill at drill (it rhymes!!!! tounge2.gif ) in Washington DC. It was one of only three regiments to be awarded this uniform, which is pretty good.

18th_Mass.sized.jpg

Note the European-style shako on the guys head. I am unsure as to which rifle the regiment was issued with, but judging from photographs I have seen and other pictures, I believe it was the Springfield rifle (if any one can clear that up for me then that would be great thanks).

A little history note: for those of you that are familiar with the battle of Fredericksburg, these guys managed to get closest to the Sunken Road, where Burnside's men were sheltered behind a stone wall with a slight dip on the other side, making them practically un-shiftable. The Union lost a spectacular amount of men at this part of the battle, and it says a lot about the regiment that they got closest out of all of the others. They also captured a Confederate battle flag at Weldon Railroad in 1864, for which the guy who got the flag was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honour.

Hope this is useful---- as I said, if anyone can figure out what rifle these guys were issued with then that would be great, I think it was the Springfield but that is an unsure judgement by me. I may crack out another regiment tonight, and Gavin, as Harley said, could you post a list of all of the regiments/units that you have so far? Cheers,

Biv

I'm on a roll lol... got another one, this time a Confederate regiment! The 11th Virginia Infantry have got a pretty interesting uniform, sadly their history is not quite so, but here they are anyway:

11th_VA_Lynchburg_Rifles.sized.jpg

The bow tie I thought was particularly interesting, although, I could find no photographic evidence to prove it was actually worn, as all the photos that I could find do not show the members of the regiment wearing it. I think it may just be the artist in this particular picture using his artistic license lol...

The rest of the uniform I found interesting, with the peculiar wide collar trimmed with gold and the hat style.

I have found one interesting historical fact about this regiment however; they took part in Pickett's Charge. Sadly none of the websites I found have any real comprehensive information about the activities of the regiment, and I am also totally unsure as to what the regiment was equipped with weapons-wise. The uniform is interesting though, and almost no Confederate regiments have been submitted so far so I figured I might as well add them. I'll try and get some more in-depth info, and if anybody knows anything else(?) then please post.

The Confederates had less troops, so based on logic they should have had less regiments as well...

Well yeah based on that logic... lol

But bear in mind my trusty friend, that the confederates had far less uniformal appearances than the UNION, i.e. their supplies, and the individual fads of states in the confederacy led to an even wider divirsity of uniforms.

In anycase, although outnumbered, I would not say that the two armies were not basically, both 'big' and should have an enqual amount of exotic regiments, (we are representing bearing in mind, an extreme fraction from both armies of what actually was out there)

Hmmm interesting.  The ones you have posted seem to be from one web site. You are getting Officer uniforms mixed with Zuave uniforms. ( red hats) and etc.

Most regiments were a rag tag bunch of men. It was only the sponsered regiments that went all out with nice guns shoes and so forth.

shoes, it's nice when you find a pair that matches on the battle field other than that good luck.

one question,,,Are you going to pack a wet uniform around or raid a farm and get dry goods and supplies and leave the wet crap behind?  (remember your walking) You bet your sweet Georgia brown you and the men are going to raid the farm.  this meant take the pennets and stick them on the newly found clothes. this made them all mismatched.

Union regiments even raided their own farmland to keep up the push. This is where all the Outlaws stemmed from. They saw this decedence and fought back after the war ended.

some were mounted calvary, more than likely they had nice stuff, becuase they could afford the upkeep of the horses. more than likely sponsered, (by a rich guy with a lot of land)

just get the grey and blue part down and you get the just of it.

as far as the regiments go

Tennessee 1st infantry,, ( the fighting first)

 Tennessee 9th mounted calvary

The Irish Brigade,, from New YorK

http://irishvolunteers.tripod.com/

9th infantry unit from Louisiana "Louisiana fighting tigers"

 http://tcc230.tripod.com/9thlainf/index.html

you might be better off going by Brigade than Regiment, even by state sometimes.. Alabama and so forth.

Each state had a brigade made up of many many regiments.

anyways you have a very daunting task trying to tackle this project.

Keep up the fine work.

here is a civil war page,,, just one of many

Will there be steamers for both sides? If so, perhaps it would be a good idea to add some Confederate Marines to balance things out (they did exist but were not really used for any major purpose besides policing naval ports and crewing ships). I don't believe their appearance was much different from other Confederate troops, besides heavier coats and such. They were armed with the 1858 Enfield (sea-service model) and although this varied depending on which ship this seems to be the standard. That really is all, just thought they would be a good balancer for the Union Marines, I'm sure there is some mission potential there smile_o.gif .

I have a Confederate regiment for you... the 4th Texas Volunteer Infantry. This regiment fought at a large number of battles in the Civil War, including Gettysburg, Sharpsburg, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbour and the Wilderness. Here is a picture of their uniform:

Heron7.jpg

Contrary to the appearance of the guy in this picture, the 4th were often without shoes and with inadequate clothing. They did all have the black trim on their uniform though, and also wore the black hats with a silver/foil star pinned to the front such as the one in the picture. If you use these guys, then make them pretty dirty, and maybe have a few of them barefoot as this is how they seemed to appear at most of their battles, form what I have found anyway.

In terms of weapons, it would seem that the Texans were armed with .58 calibre Springfields, most likely the 1855 model, as the description in the source I found seemed to indicate this. Anyways, tell me if you need anything else and I can get it for you, I'll try and get another regiment or two before the day is out smile_o.gif

We have to get infantry and stuff done first of course, but rest assured, I'm into a wide variety of arms hehe, specially for the campaign etc.

Okay, double post, (god will punish me for this)

------ EnFuego

Very intelligent post and welcome to the BI forum, Its good for you to drop in, as we like to encourage historical debate, and to get the word from visitors so that we can craft this mod with a genuine community spirit.

As regards to rag tag men, you are entirely correct, the basic confederates we have included, have approximately 21 generic variations of infantry, 21! I believe this will be unparalleled to other mods, and this includes men with clothing varieties, hats, armaments and with and without (barefeet) shoes.

As regards to the exotic regiments, naturally these are of a more singular character (unit wise) than they would be historically, particularly for the rebel side, but for sake of variety in particular for campaigns, and the fame of those regiments, (and their narrative potential for mission makers) we believe including them is vital.

Can you post some pics of the

Tennessee 1st infantry

Tennessee 9th mounted calvary

Louisiana fighting tigers

Also, we are not bound by regiments (this is to all of you) brigades or etc so suggestions are fine so long as we have a unique look.

Would it not rock if you could divide some by Reb states lol, (in the vehicle class) but that would be a bit too much lol... (maybe in the groups u could have it instead)

---------- TO JOSH

A lot of the VMI I have seen, look pretty much like regulars, bar they wear scarves and have some other particulars, if you have any requests to expand that with your clothing suggestions, stick up some pics etc let us see wink_o.gif

-------------BIV

Confederate Marines are a possibility based however only on whether we get any reb ships complete etc. But its a possibility I will happily include.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Our mods greatest strength is probably the quality and performance of our units, so we can include more without killing system resources (they have great lods etc) so its all good wink_o.gif

Now I will in a few weeks be making a special beta unit test team, for all you loyal cadres, (don't go asking yet tho my comrades) I will post when the time has come wink_o.gif

Now, I will post some pics soon of cool stuff in development!

Well thank you Gavin for the compliments, helping you guys out is quite honestly my pleasure! I have a Confederate cavalry unit for, you, who were not an official unit as such.

The Missouri Partisan Rangers were groups of cavalrymen who formed bands to protect their homes and towns from ravaging Union armies in Missouri. They were not recognised as actual soldiers, and so were given no quarter when captured. Because of this they returned the favour to the Union forces, and were infamous for their mercilessness. Interestingly, Frank and Jesse James and other members of the Younger gang were members of Quantrill's Guerillas before they became outlaws. I don't know whether this says anything about the guerillas lol...

The unit practically destroyed the pro-Union town of Lawrence, Kansas, storming it and killing over 150 men, ransacking it and then riding away. Basically these guys were Confederate outlaws, and were pretty infamous during the war. I do not believe they had a uniform as such, but many of the pictures and such that I have seen of them depicts them wearing baggy red shirts, similiar to the one in the picture below:

Quantrills_Guerillas.sized.jpg

In terms of weapons, they would have been armed with anything from pistols to captured Union carbines to sabres, so if you use these guys then just give them whatever you what, but a wide selection of weapons would be pretty cool. Anyways, if you need any more information etc just shout and I'll find it for you.

Alright here is an idea me and Harley were discussing, and this is something we are applying.

We intend to utilise a special injured animation for units hit, that will see them writhing in agony (falling to the ground) for an intermediate amount of time (with which they may live or die) during which, other units, nearby will try to comfort, drag up and help those, to continue the good fight.

We expect this system to create a battlefield with

LIFE - WOUNDS - DYING - DEATH

As opposed to just life and death, we expect this newly animated environment to bring new depth, and even emotion to the tragic battlefields we recreate wink_o.gif

More details on that soon.
