privatenoob 0 Posted June 8, 2005 I guess this question can only be answered by the DEV´s. So is there going to be a printed manual that follows the retail game? I really like reading well made manuals but not as a PDF-file or whatever in the folder on the computer.
ade_mcc 0 Posted June 8, 2005 A manual is always nice and everything, and given the choice I would say yes please! However, manuals seem to be getting rarer and thinner replaced with the biggest cost saver - the PDF manual. (which when playing the game is useless!). OFP:cwc had an adequate manual (plus that stand-up thing) which when combined with the campaign taught you pretty much everything throughout its course. The hard-core originals who played the demo to death already had a great knowledge already but this is beside the point. Which leads us up to the next point. Once OFP:AA is released we will have 2 camps - the OFP player and the brand new AA players. At least the expansion pack beforehand required you to have cwc and so no huge learning curves were necessary. AA is stand alone and so no prior knowledge can be expected. And so now we have a forthcoming campaign that will have to be newbi friendly and yet please the veterans. Or does it? Any thoughts?
sputnik monroe 102 Posted June 8, 2005 I wish they would have a manual. I miss the old days when computer games came with real manuals. Â Â They should at least have all the weapons, vehicles, and units in the book. It would be cool to read info that mentions the manufacture, date of introduction, weapon systems, and misc information for each vehicle and unit. Â Â What would be cool also is if it came with two books. The game manual and the editor manual like the old JANE'S sims. Â Â It wont happen though. Instruction manuals have been replaced by 10 page pamphlets that simply contain a seizure warning and credits. Still a man can dream can't he?
Longjocks 0 Posted June 8, 2005 I honestly don't mind PDF manuals. There's a part of me that fondly remembers my times with Microprose games. These days I can do without a printed manual included, BUT I like to think any PDF manual I get on the disc will be complete. By this I mean full descriptions of all the game's primary functions and menus; gamplay, equipment and tactics (in the case of wargames); and a detailed tutorial(s) for any extra features like a mission editor. Of course, the final say on any printed matter included with the package is probably up to the publisher. But as I said, I don't mind not having a printed manual as I hardly have use for my printer as it is. I could do with blowing the dust off it or, and most likely, I'll take the file to work and get it printed for free... even have it put in a nice binder. That's one of the perks of working in the same section as our university's printery.
Colossus 2 Posted June 8, 2005 PDF is cheaper then paper, hehe Would maybe get it a few euro cents cheaper. But yes, I do want to have a manual you can look at while you test the game.
BraTTy 0 Posted June 9, 2005 Games don't need to come with manuals anymore. Most just have a keyboard chart or such anyways.Pdf is fine and of course the game needs to install a shortcut to the pdf for basic computer users. The best solution and I adore games that have the instructions within the game. Most games nowadays have a tutorial part of the game but some have whole manuals within the game. Placebo 29 Posted June 9, 2005 Speaking personally pdf manuals are fine, except for when the game doesn't allow you to alt+tab to check something, now that's annoying Anyways, as it's up to the publisher what type of manual will be included, and as the publisher is "to be determined" I think for now the question is moot
