Balschoiw 0 Posted June 4, 2005 [b said: Quote[/b] ]I don't know if any of you have thought of this, and I'm not sure it entirely fits in to this category, but have any of you thought of Tunnel Networks? Like the ones the NVA used in the Vietnam War, or like Rebels used in the Afghanistan war? Already mentioned in several suggestion threads
Homefry 0 Posted June 4, 2005 I simply fail to see the point in this... to tell you the truth. Frankly.. it's a game (call it a sim if you like), and it is a COMBAT simulator, not something to simulate filling sandbags and building towers nail by nail. It definetly wouldn't be something to include in the engine, when one or two people will use it. I don't care if you can use time compression or not. Your filling sandbags... in a game. Or are you missing the part that this is a game? Seriously... this can be done in OFP already...
funnyguy1 0 Posted June 4, 2005 omg...filling sandbags I would use it, and have a lot of fun ...but I would hate it after an hour...
Madus_Maximus 0 Posted June 4, 2005 You do know that engineers have prefab bases yeah? They'll bring along command centres on the back of trucks, field hospitals the lot. Anyway, you can already build sandbags and walls and gun emplacements and towers and so on... it's called CTI (capture the island).
rsly75 0 Posted June 5, 2005 BUT what if you could order the AI to build things and put sandbags here and there.
meio_maluco 1 Posted June 7, 2005 I also dont see us buldings houses but fox holes trenches and all the stuf would be very helpfull, specialy for ww2. But i think if the engine would alow to build houses like ur saying it would be kewl for someone that likes CTI. Also i think the terrain needs a complete new sistem, for example the sand. In iraq war there was the buldozer tanks opening passages trought the sand walls. This woulbe a wicked thing to have. The possiblity to interact with terrain particles. (this would alow to dig foxholes and trenches, tunnels etc).
G-Capo 0 Posted June 8, 2005 It would be cool to build stuff like that,Maybe repair houses that have taken tank shells or been blown up.
Balschoiw 0 Posted June 9, 2005 [b said: Quote[/b] ]Maybe repair houses that have taken tank shells or been blown up. If you want to spend 6 months reparing a house or building it from the scratch again with the help of local civillians.... Visit warzones. Houses are not repaired during wartime operations. If someone lives in them they will hastely try to fix the windows with wood or plastic foil or something like that, but the rebuilding or repairing starts after combat operations are over, not during them. Check some pictures of Grozny and you´ll get the idea of how people live in a warzone.
AKM 0 Posted June 9, 2005 [b said: Quote[/b] ]Check some pictures of Grozny and you´ll get the idea of how people live in a warzone. Lotta heavy-duty plastic wrap, lotta plywood. Plenty o' shanties. Which, may not be a bad idea for the areas with sizeable civilian concentrations that are being fought over. Sort of "Destroyed, Semi-Habitable" kind of structures, but those can be made by the community when the game is released. They could be made now, as it stands. Doesn't take six months to put someone's house back up. They're not amazingly complex structures unless you're rerunning sewage, water, and power lines. Considering what Russian artillery and artillery rockets do to an area (Think Grozny,) I imagine you'd be rerunning those. I wouldn't mind an "entrenching tool," but really only for one use; smoking my enemy across the face with it. Good fun, that. [b said: Quote[/b] ]Only way I can think of to add gameplay value to the engineers is maybe to give them minedetectors or maybe those armored bridge layers. That doesnt really sound too much fun either though Mine-detectors would be great, a Dutch Combat Engineer serving with my squad now intensely dislikes the current system for landmines, revamping that would be a bonus. The armoured bridge-layers would be pretty badass, if the developers could get the AI to take their heads out of their asses and actually interact with said objects properly. I'll agree though, it's not something that I would want to see in a lot of missions. But if you look at some terrain in Europe, the Russians got really good at laying quick-bridges for their armoured troops in combat exercises for a reason.
