Quad 50 "gun truck", and Halftrack

Recommended Posts

About two years ago, I downloaded a model of a quad 50 mount that was VERY beta, static (not animated, armed, or fully textured)

I CAN NOT REMEMBER WHO I DOWNLOADED IT FROM  sad_o.gif

I took that model, armed it, animated it, and mounted it on the back of the WWII GMC trucks from AIA, and WWIIEC...making a "Gun truck" sort of like one of THESE:

And mounted it in the back of AIA's halftrack, making an M16 AA like THIS:

I would like to know if there is any interest in these, and I would like to seek the approval of the makers of the addons that I pieced together to make them

Guess I acually should have posted a screenshot...I will try to get one posted.

I would have thought so? Don’t think there is any WW2 mechanized AA for the Allies.

The guys over at (WW2 Mod) CTI44 might be interested. There is a defiantly a need for allied AA in that smile_o.gif

Well...here are some screens of the quad 50 vehicles I was working on.

I would like to release them, but I need to get permission from the people who made the original halftrack, and GMC truck.

(I44, and WWIIEC I believe)

They are beta (mostly because of textures)...but they work very well

I put these things together when I was just starting to figure out Oxygen.

So, If I do release them...I will first go back and fix some of the things I could have done better.

Looks very cool, although something seems off with the GMC flatbed mount. Too close to the center and the base is of the mount seems wrong. Here's a few photos showing how the towed mount was placed on the truck:

Not sure how common the truck mount was in WWII, but the towed quad-.50 mount was very common.

Yes, like I said...I made them while I was learning about O2.

The GMC was really just an experiment.

I was thinking about a Viet Nam era gun truck similar to "NANCY", and needed to find out if the guns could be mounted on a truck.

(I just picked the WWIIEC truck for lack of a better platform at the time)

I intend to start playing around with these again, and refine some of the details.

Very nice work on these, I've always wanted to see an AA gun mounted on a truck or halftrack. I cannot wait to hear more about this smile_o.gif

Any chance you will release the vehicles pictured or are you concentrating more on Vietnam vehicles?

Why dont they use this system anymore, I think in iraq these things would come in very handy. I mean you would surely be ducking behind anything If such a thing opens up on you. 4x50cal would F anything up I think...

Well the .50cal is still one of the best anti inf weapons ever made

4 is even better , but i have read an article that said the US is even bringing WW2 mothballed ammo out b'coz they were runing out of .50cal Linky to story

IMO the minigun is better , just hasnt got the penatration

well, thats because they only mount 7.62mm miniguns! biggrin_o.gif

They should use the 25mm version from the AC-130! xmas_o.gif Or the M61 from the modern fighter jets, ehh 20mm, haah 6000 rounds per minute! >> PWNAGE!

Think of the ammo that thing needs.

No, seriously they do use guntrucks in iraq if Im not mistaken, so why dont they just mount one of these turret on them. The system works well...

Woow mothballed WW2 ammo, it would probally be better to make some new ammo. Or stop expending soo much. When you think about it, many vehicles use the 50cal, either ontop of a abrams tank or humvee, or apc, or truck.

They are really cheating in the photo that one of you guys posted. They make it look like they are going to pull it up by hand but this bitch weights about 3400lbs without the guns. It's a freaking bitch to drag around...

Thats where I got the idea from.

the links in my first post are Viet Nam era gun trucks.

(except for the half-track)

Thanks for the additional links, I didn't realize that was a link to pictures. I was going off the two you posted later in the thread.

Anyway if you need walkaround pictures of an M35 and quad I can do it for you..

I need pictures of the base it is mounted on.

Right now, I just have it mounted on a simple cylinder shaped "base".

Also, I decided to use AIA's GMC, instead of WWIIEC's.

It looks a little more like the truck in the photographs, and could be used for WWII, AND Viet Nam missions.

Here are new pics:

ALSO....Let me clearly state the fact that I can only take minimal credit for this addon.

The trucks, and halftrack were made by others.

The actual Quad 50 was made by someone else as well...but, it was just a static object model.

All I added was some remedial texturing, animations (memory lod), and a config.

I will polish this addon up quite a bit before it is released (if the original addon makers dont object)

I have to add textures to the ammo boxes, and I am going to change some of the other textures (I think the shade of green on the big gear wheels is a bit off)

Anyway...If I DONT get permission to release the truck, and half-track...I will still release an animated version of the quad 50 itself, for others to use.

The whole truck needs sharpened & smoothed edges... it'll make them all look a thousand times better. I will get the photos of the base for you. It's basically a trailer with 4 jackstands that jack it up and then you fold up the wheels and let it back down.

Well...I have bad news.

I have been working on the finishing details on the guntruck, and I had it almost ready to release.

Then...the device drivers in my WindowsXP crashed. banghead.gif

I could not re-boot without device drivers, so the only way to ressurect my computer (without erasing all the files on the old hard drive)

I bought a new HD, installed windows on it, and installed my old HD as a slave.

Then I installed OFP on the new HD

When I copied the addons from the old OFP (on the old HD), to the new one...some of them became corrupted for some reason.

The guntruck was one of the corrupted ones, and it will not work now.

I am going to have to rebuild the addon. confused_o.gif
