miss_cleo 0 Posted March 1, 2005 I'm working on making some early '80s era Navy SEALs. They are based on the HYK body with the bandanas and jungle boot textures taken from Jackal's great Tears of the sun seals. I've also made a nice XM177 (from Laser's CAR) and an Uzi to go with them. I havent yet asked permission to use their work yet, but its still in the early stages. I am planning on making woodland, 6 color desert, arctic, and black BDU versions. I need help with three things: Â Â Â Anybody got any pics of SEALs in action in grenada? Â Â Â Is their a filter for photoshop that will give something a creased cloth-like look? I need this to make the black BDU textures. Â Â Â I am having trouble with the muzzle flashes on the weapons... i cant seem to make them go away.. they are defined as zasleh and ive done the config right..i think. some pics: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
DB-ERAUPilot 0 Posted March 1, 2005 a suggestion would be to use already released weapons...ie lasers, bas, hyk, suchey...there are plenty of GREAT weapons packs already out...no need to "re-invent the wheel" AGAIN. u might wanna check a local bookstore for 80's era SEAL pics..there was a book that came out a couple years back "SEALs in Action" i think was the title..see if u can get a copy of that one... miss_cleo 0 Posted March 1, 2005 as far as i know no one has made that particular version of the XM177 yet.

I think i have the book you're talking about. I don't think that it has any pictures of the SEALs in grenada in it. In fact, I'm not sure if there are many pictures of SEALs in action at all, most of the tome they operate where there aren't any correspondents or cameras to record them. The only pics i've seen are from their training. BTW. Great idea to make '80s SEALs. We are missing a good SEAL addon.
sv5000 127 Posted March 1, 2005 They look good, and my XM-177 came out looking like a Xm-733. (Same wep, but with the M16A2 muzzle flash suppressor), check my thread in A&M Comp. But lasers/E@S weapons etc are all the wrong scale, there to small, length is ok, but thats all.
Gordy 0 Posted March 2, 2005 as far as i know no one has made that particular version of the XM177 yet. Well, not yet, but who knows. Anyways, what I would suggest for cloth it to use a new layer with <100 opasity (You'll have to adjust to see how it looks) of a texture that I can send you if you want. PM me for it. Also, create a bump layer to make it look like 3D. And don't listen this crap about re-inventing the wheel. You aren't doing it for them, are you?
ThePara 0 Posted March 2, 2005 Oh man those guys are bad-ass! Too bad they aren't closed to finish  Be sure to take the IR reflective American flag off, those weren't worn then. Also, you don't need HyK's permission if you're waiting for it. You only need to give him credit in the read-me.
Stelios 1 Posted March 2, 2005 Man, can't answer your questions, but i have to compliment you on your work. Great idea to make some SEALs, and you made some very good ones with it. But didnt the XM-177 have a shorter barrell than the M4?(or was that the M733?) It really looks like an M4A1 on the pic. Btw, any plans for an MP5A2 or something? But didnt the XM-177 have a shorter barrell than the M4?(or was that the M733?) It really looks like an M4A1 on the pic. What M4A1? if it looks like enything its a M4 whit a short barrel and XM flash hider, the barrel is only 11.5" its the flash hider thats long because its supose to hide the flash so it wouldent reveal the soldiers in Nam when fighting after dark(correct me if im rong). Also one of the differences from XM177E1 to XM177E2 was a "hole" on the flash heider to mount a granade luncher like M203(correct me if im rong). @Miss_Cleo Rangers, SF and SEALs bought in small numbers a rifle with a M4 lenth barrel but had XM furniture(upper/lower-reciver) called M653 which could compliment the XM177E2. Your M203 is too short try too look at pictures of the M203 back then. 1987 SEAL, Panama Invasion SEAL mid eighties 1986 Ranger 1982 Italia M653 M653 Useable links: Info on the M4 carbine's history XM177 pics and info if you can read chinesse Israel M16 use pics of M653 and other in Chinesse again Hope some of this can help STGN
Stelios 1 Posted March 2, 2005 Aha.........details....... Anyways, you could always just use the E&S pack(the most elite M4/M16 pack out there IMO, they just need some M733 versions and modded M4's and M16's). So you can evade the muzzle flash problem. Just ask permission, i'm sure those guys will give it. Do you want the release the SEALs as one pack(desert, arctic, black) or release a v1.0 with just woodland and after that release updates(fixes on woodland together with desert for example). The last option has my preference offcourse, cause it will mean i can use these SEALs sooner
Gordy 0 Posted March 2, 2005 Well, I got motivated today so made you a present Cleo. Here it is. Just a mesh with no textures. Exact recreation of a XM-177 colt model. If the motivation remains, I might unwrap it for better texturing. Have a nice day.
miss_cleo 0 Posted March 2, 2005 well i changed the XM, i lengthened the barrel, changed the flashhider and gave it the full length M203. I also made a M-653, by request. I may make an MP5, but if i do it will be the early model with the straight magazine and the old handguard. right now, since im doing early '80s, i think ill stick with the Uzi. The desert version is coming along nicely.. and yes, if i ever release them, it will be as a combined pack. Thanks for the texture gordy! The top one is the new and improved version: the M653, by demand: ill post some desert pics when i get home from work.

pajama 0 Posted March 3, 2005 Nice job on the carbines. Â Gordy, any plan to update the 6.8 SPCs? Opps, oh yeah btw, why is that SEAL wearing British DPMP camo(?)?
Stelios 1 Posted March 3, 2005 Uzi sounds good to me too. Always nice in the jungle when you have a close encounter with some opfor, just spray and pray. Same goes for the Thompson, great weapon in that environment. Makes me think, a shotgun? What were the SEALs using during that time? Remington 870?
CrunchyFrog 0 Posted March 3, 2005 SEALS with Uzi's... Is that right?
-HUNTER- 1 Posted March 3, 2005 man these are some excellent units, I think im going to use them for later periods then they are ment for aswell... Elite for some good missions on Gaia!
miss_cleo 0 Posted March 3, 2005 before everyone went to the MP-5, the Uzi was the "it" submachinegun, man. I've seen quite a few ictures of US forces with them

Stelios 1 Posted March 3, 2005 Uzi, great weapon indeed. Myself am gonna go into Ashau and Tonal in early '90s anti-guerilla warfare campaign in the jungle with these guys. They look so damn elite!

Wa_Va_Voom 0 Posted March 4, 2005 The Secret Service were big fans of the Uzi. True that true that I remember seeing TV replays of the assassination attempt apon Ronal Regan as soon as the bullet was fired everyone in a suit pulled out a Uzi, like they were raining in new years day. supergruntsb78 67 Posted March 4, 2005 well i rememberusing it in the service (the uzi) and it was a good gun for small range combat and it had one major advantage when we returned from exercise and the gun needed cleaning we took it with us underneeth the shower pull it apart and washed it after the shower we put on a drop off oil and we where finished cleaning it
