Billabong81 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Ah and Tribes. Found those on Fileplanet a while ago. I tried Trbies, but I was too late to get a Tribes 2 key. Tribes 1 isn't very good IMO. I didn't try Ground Control though. I'll definately look into it .
Akira 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Go to *removed link because of a retarded law....we all know what it was anyway* Free open market games. A lot of former payware games that are now past their copyright and public domain now.
kegetys 2 Posted January 24, 2005 A lot of former payware games that are now past their copyright and public domain now. That's not true, their copyrights are still very valid(You wont find computer games that would be old enough to have their copyright expired) and the distribution is still illegal in the eyes of the law of most countries. That's not true, their copyrights are still very valid(You wont find computer games that would be old enough to have their copyright expired) and the distribution is still illegal in the eyes of the law of most countries. The more common games (like Starfleet Command 3) are by companies that are no longer solvent (Taldren). In the case of the games that are still protected, or have had their protection extended (like Pirates Gold when Sid Meir decided to do an updated version....which kicks ass btw) the game links and downloads have been removed, and links to BUY the game provided (usually to Chips & Bits). The website had removed many links when companies have asked due to extention of protection. Quote[/b] ]Oh oh...even though as much as I like HOTU. You better remove the link before a mods sees it. Why? I've posted it before with no problem, and as I said it is a well known website that host games that you normally wouldn't be able to get anymore, and that is legal to post do to lapse in property rights or copyrights. It has many games listed as their favorites which are still protected and instead of downloads they have links to BUY the game. It is not a warez site. The downloads have been removed from those games where the copyright owner has requested it to be taken down. It doesn't mean the rest would be any more or less legal, Read the FAQ. sanctuary 19 Posted January 24, 2005 The General Very simple, but great and addictive management/wargame Blip&Blop Hilarious parodic oldschool arcade game. Hero Quest Very good recreation of the boardgame Dark Disicple Nice semi-RPG game Strandred Superb 3D survival game Notrium Another survival game, more action orientated Cube If you need a quake-like, this is an awesome free one Babylon 5 : I've Found Her One of the most impressive free game i ever played, space combat with realistic physics Horrorween Addictive, fun and very frustrating in the same time arcade shooter on top view Battle for Wesnoth Very good wargame, heroic fantasy themed with evoluting units. Steel Panther : World at War A huge download (actually 90% of the size are the sounds) , but one of the greatest free wargame WW2 themed. Gal Panix Crazy small game, will waste all your free time with the "one just more game before i stop" feeling ( english manual ) Counter Strike 2D Inspired by the known half life modification, this top view game has bot and online support Should be enough waste of your free time, while playing OFP to wait for OFP2

You make it sound like warez, when for the vast majority, as pointed out in the FAQ, have already done their revenue run. They are not taking money away from anyone, and they certainly aren't stealing any intellectual rights. How is it a bad thing that they host 1988 games for manufacturers that are no longer around, and "forgot" to release their game into public domain just before their company went into the shitter? EDIT: Oh yeah...and Silent & Deadly 1 is free....think thats the one. WW2 squad 3rd person thingie ma-bob.

They are not taking money away from anyone, and they certainly aren't stealing any intellectual rights. It is "warez" (illegal software), simple as that. I dont see anything wrong with distributing that old stuff, but the laws aren't made by me.
sanctuary 19 Posted January 24, 2005 The last time i checked the abandonware definition, it was clearly stated that according to the law videogames are their authors 'property for 70 years. So distributing "old stuff" without the author approval can be considered illegal. Fortunately (and i am the first happy of this situation) , it is vastly tolerated by the authors of those old titles, and the "good" abandonware website are all engaged to remove titles without discussing , at the request of authors. Billabong81 0 Posted January 24, 2005 I am downloading Steel Panthers right now and Starfleet Commander 3. Thanks for all these links guys, I really appreciate it. I had tried Project Entropia a while ago, but I don't like the idea of giving away my money for ingame money lol.
bn880 5 Posted January 24, 2005 One of the best free games was actually an addon/mod of 2002, GTR mod for F1 2002. Hard to find now, but if you have F1 2002 and are a real racing fan, this was sweet. The same Simbin team subsequently released their own GTR Real Racing game, and it's about to hit stores near you soon.

havocsquad 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Don't forget StarFight IV Gatekeepers, available through www.the-underdogs.org The same site listed a few replies earlier. It's a great space adventure 2D game that is free, and the soundtrack is awesome for this little known game. Unfortunately, I would not try to play it if you have an AMD rocessor. It refuses to play and the screen craps up badly when it runs. Be prepared for a long download time, it's over 200 megs.
