Skul 0 Posted January 22, 2005 There is one called 'Time of Defiance', which is supposed to be pretty good. I tried the trial version, but didn't have any idea of what to do. I read the tutorial and followed it to the letter, but hardly anything happened. I guess it's one of those games that you really have to get into to enjoy, like the Final Fantasy series. It's got 4,000km x 4,000km playing fields, hundreds of players fighting to control thousands of islands and games that can last up to 4 weeks... among other things. If you like the sound of it, here's the website: Time of Defiance Webpage Maybe I should download the trial again and see if I can do any better second time around...? BOP_101TFS 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Space? There are many professional softwares for astro-fans... -ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted January 22, 2005 A friend of mine used to play an older MS game, AllegianceAlthough it may be slightly outdated it is said to be absolutely great in MP, from dogfights to large scale strategic operations, building of units etc. In fact I think it's MP only, SP is only training stuff. I've only watched him playing it so I don't really have an educated opinion on it. I can tell it looked damn great though. The space flight is supposed to be more or less realistic (inertia etc.) and not a "vacuum-aereodynamic" model like X-Wing et al. here is a review Edit: And a few movie trailers I've tried out Allegiance, and it definitely has realistic physics. I downloaded a modified version of it from allegiance hq (the original only worked on ms zone servers). Also, downloaded Freespace 2 but without the high-res files, anybody know where I can get them? vektorboson 8 Posted January 22, 2005 I like VegaStrike! It's a free/open source space shooter, quite similar to Privateer (there's even a Privateer Mod for it!)
pajama 0 Posted January 23, 2005 www.freeAllegiance.org "In February 2004, Microsoft released the source code for Allegiance, and cited the devotion of its hard-core players for doing so. Now at last the game is truely free, the bugs that crippled the initial release have been fixed, and the game development is continued by the community. It still remains the best team-oriented multiplayer action/sim game on the internet." If I have time, I just might give it a wack my self

Leveler 0 Posted January 23, 2005 no its RUBBISH! really bad! Are you talking about BC? It is FAAAR better than such dull, boring trash like X2 and freelancer. And it feels less like arcade.

Leveler 0 Posted January 23, 2005 LOL! No seriously, have you ever played the last part of the series? Or seen a screenshot, or whatever?... And X2 really is boring, from the shop, in my computer and straigt back for a refund... And before I ever heard of UC
kegetys 2 Posted January 23, 2005 No seriously, have you ever played the last part of the series? Or seen a screenshot, or whatever?... The last version I tried was Battlecruiser Millennium and it was quite crappy.
Leveler 0 Posted January 23, 2005 The only game I have is the universal combat and it was better that Freelancer (which I have) with its Legoland tiny planets or unbelievably boring X2 with the ''zeppelin'' spaceships and the galactic economy building . These two were the heavyweights right before I bought UC. I looked for the Dereck Smart flamewars in the internet; whats with this war they have started on him/ lies that he may or may not have said? and more important why should I give a sh*t? Im not marrying the guy.

pajama 0 Posted January 23, 2005 Ahhh crap...you have to install the .NET framework.
Billabong81 0 Posted January 23, 2005 What is wrong with that? I never have understood what .NET framework is, but I have had it updated many times through Automatic Updates, so I have it installed .
Metal Heart 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Orbiter is probably the best one out there. If you wan't to do some shooting too, try I've Found Her prequel campaign (it has realistic physics, no "airplanes-in-space") I've Found Her

Fork122 0 Posted January 28, 2005 Anybody else ever try the OFP Space Addon v0.8? Â I thought it was kinda cool. Â It's not too much of a sim since it runs in OFP as an addon, but for space junkies I'm sure it's worth a look. Space Addon V0.8 Â Check the link, it's got the download from OFP.info and it's got some nice screens.
