Bordoy 0 Posted September 21, 2004 Also Brian Clough has been reunited with his friend Peter Taylor. Sunday is "green jumper day" at the City Ground to remember him. I also heard that the Brian Clough stand will be holding up placards which make an image of him. And that probably that they will be parading the trophies around the ground. Also the NFFC players will be wearing black armbands for wednesday and sunday games. I am going this sunday with a green jumper.
Placebo 29 Posted September 22, 2004 I won't have this thread tarnished The precedent was set some time ago for tribute threads to well loved/famous/influential people, if you don't know who Mr. Clough was move on to another thread Quote[/b] ]Rams fans to commemorate Clough Derby fans are being asked to submit suggestions as to how former manager Brian Clough, who died this week aged 69, can best be commemorated. Clough, who passed away at Derby City Hospital on Monday after having suffered stomach cancer, had taken charge at the Baseball Ground in 1967 and took the Rams from old Second Division obscurity to the Football League championship in 1972. A Rams spokesman said: "It's still very soon after Brian's death and we feel most fans would first like to concentrate on paying their respects to this club's greatest ever manager but we have asked for suggestions as to what a fitting permanent memorial might be." Suggestions have so far included a statue or naming a stand after Clough although Nottingham Forest already have a Brian Clough stand and a bronze bust of the Wearsider in their reception. Other early suggestions have included establishing an annual charity match between the Rams and Forest or renaming the A52 - the dual carriageway which links Derby and Nottingham - as an appropriate reminder of the manager who bossed the East Midlands' bitterest rivals yet remained revered by both armies of fans. And the campaign for Clough to be knighted will now push for Downing Street to bestow the honour posthumously while some have also called for part of the new Wembley stadium to be named after Clough. Tozmeister 0 Posted September 22, 2004 Anybody got any quotes from "ol' big head"? my favorite is:- young sport journalist: "Mr Clough, if i can ask you a difficult question now....?" Placebo 29 Posted September 22, 2004 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/3674210.stm There's a few, one of his most famous ones is on there...... Quote[/b] ]"We talk about it for 20 minutes and then we decide I was right" - On dealing with players who disagree with him. But one of my favourite ones which isn't is...... Quote[/b] ]CLOUGHIE just loved the big-name singers and he once met the legendary Frank Sinatra backstage. But if anyone asked him about the memorable moment he’d simply recall: "Ah yes, Frank Sinatra, he met me once." Just found another very funny one which really summed him up...... Quote[/b] ]CLOUGHIE arrived home after a midweek match in the early hours of a freezing December morning but woke wife Barbara as he got into bed. She gasped: "God, your feet are freezing." Cloughie replied: "Eh luv, you can call me Brian in bed."
Placebo 29 Posted September 22, 2004 Quote[/b] ]After 42 games unbeaten the mighty Forest got gubbed - soundly thrashed - and the players were not looking forward to the wrath of the gaffer post match. They trembled as Clougie walked in but there was no forthcoming tirade just a simple - "Right you lot, training tomorrow - nine o'clock." So Sunday morning comes and the players are outside waiting for Cloughie to arrive - which he does on the team bus complete with fishing rod, creel, hat and seat. He orders the players on the bus and off they go into the Nottinghamshire countryside. The coach stops and Clough says: "Right you lot - stay here." He then goes off fishing for three and a half hours. He gets back on the bus and they tootle off back to Nottingham without the great one saying a word. They finally arrive at the City Ground and thus spake the great one. "Right then - you lot f*cked up my Saturday - I've f*cked up your Sunday. We're now even. See you at training tomorrow. I interviewed Clough in the early 90s and asked him if this was true. He said to me and winked: "You don't want to believe everything you read son. But me and Barbara had trout that night I seem to remember."

Placebo 29 Posted September 23, 2004 It's sad that few managers of today lack anything remotely like the personality of Mr. Clough, the two that perhaps come closest are Sam Allardyce and Gordan Strachan, Gordan's after match interviews often used to be very funny
Tozmeister 0 Posted September 23, 2004 And Sir Alex Ferguson, ask anyone on the recieving end of the 'Ferguson Hairdryer'. Very true though Placebo, in this day and age of corporate sponsorship your never going to get the colourful/controversial manager. 'They' just want quite, grey man in suits that don't say much (mentioning no names Mr Wenger). The following courtesy of: news.bbc.co.uk "I wouldn't say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one" - On his own success. "If God had wanted us to play football in the clouds, he'd have put grass up there" - On the importance of passing the ball to feet. "I only ever hit Roy the once. He got up so I couldn't have hit him very hard" - On dealing with Roy Keane. "I'm sure the England selectors thought if they took me on and gave me the job, I'd want to run the show. They were shrewd because that's exactly what I would have done" - On not getting the England manager's job. "Players lose you games, not tactics. There's so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes" - On England's exit from Euro 2000. "The Derby players have seen more of his balls than the one they're meant to be playing with" - On a streaker who once interrupted a Derby County-Manchester United match. In a champion's league: Cloughie 2-1 Ferguson "Manchester United in Brazil? I hope they all get bloody diarrhoea" - On Manchester United's decision to opt out of the FA Cup to play in the World Club Championship in 2000. "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls" - Referring to Sir Alex Ferguson's failure to win two successive European Cups. "I can't even spell spaghetti never mind talk Italian. How could I tell an Italian to get the ball? He might grab mine" - On the influx of foreign players. "I like my women to be feminine, not sliding into tackles and covered in mud" - On women and football. "Anybody who can do anything in Leicester but make a jumper has got to be a genius" - His tribute to Martin O'Neill, who used to manage Leicester City. "That Seaman is a handsome young man but he spends too much time looking in his mirror rather than at the ball. You can't keep goal with hair like that" - On the pony-tailed former England goalkeeper David Seaman. -Ash- 0 Posted September 25, 2004 Yeah the guy was a legend.. Very sad to hear about his passing.. I'll always remember his quote about Liverpool FC (My favourite team as I'm from Liverpool) something about not letting his players eat or drink ar Anfield as 'they put something funny in the tea up there' Great loss to the footballing world
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted September 25, 2004 It's great to see fans come together with such respect for the strong personalities of football as it used to be (and many people who love the game still wish it was) such as Clough, who was one of the last remaining parts of those days that we still had. It's such a shame that such a large part of that that aspect of football is lost with Brian.
-Ash- 0 Posted September 25, 2004 Well he was always known as the best manager England never had unfortunetely... He was in the same football character class as in Shankly & Paisley...

Good Job. Most Liverpool fans hate Forest and Cloughie because what he said about the Hillsborough Disaster. And because of Liverpool fans hating Forest we hate them. However If this eminates from Hillsborough however I will unleash hell on you boy..... I think it was because of what the scousers said about Brian Clough, and the scousers said that because of what cloughie said about Hillsborough. Fact is though. Police shouldn't of opened them gates and too many Liverpool fans tried to get in. Though it was the ones without tickets and tried to force there way in who caused it. If you had a ticket you have a right to be in the ground. No ticket then no right, but lots of non-ticketers got in. But scousers don't like The Sun newspaper for what they said. But no Liverpool fan has admitted anything, it shows it on the CCTV but they deny it.
