Diplomatic Building

My need to find a surefire foolproof method of placing multipart addons started with the PT and PTF boats. This enevitably led to wondering if a similar system could be used to place parts of a building.. it didn't. But with the idea of STOTAT firmly embedded in my feeble mind I started thinking outside the box (my head actually)..

Well this is taking a long time, but the good news is that after a day or two of experimenting I have overcome several major problems:

1. By using proxies and memory points I am able to place multi-part buildings on a map and turn them in any direction and everything stays lined up smile_o.gif

2. By using the same method I can place furniture, doors and other items in the building. All these parts can be destroyed and behave like regular addons with full geometry lod, unlike normal furniture proxies.

3. The really good news is: Windows that can be shot out with flying broken glass, sound etc

4. Additonal to this using the same system machine gun posts can be set on any predetermined point on the building.

5. Also blown out pieces of wall etc is possible as well as long as I can detect what hit the part.

All this includes scripting, but scripting is part of the game and if used correctly lag should be kept to a minimum.

I meant to mention. This building was made multipart, not to overcome the roadway size limit, but the geometry limit of 126 parts. Therefore it comprises four main parts, separate gate, flag pole, and window and door parts.

Will the machine gun posts be vehicle class? i.e. You can "this moveingunner MG2" them?

Wow Klink ! ... your wonders never cease!

So can you do similar with ladders for example?

zap or raise / lower a ladder into place ... or out (like furniture?)

PS:-..one note..i noticed the shadow...as placing it on the island itself, not sure if u are using wrpedit or visitor..cos in wrpedit u will have to set the geoLOD named properties to map...and that might remove the shadow. I cud be wrong, but just a note to u incase if u cant get it into the map editors.

I though the building looked 'just' really nice, but than I started reading. WOH!!!!! That's really awesome! If all that all works than the building will be an awesome addon for some CQB fighting in OFP.

Great job on this as well as your other addons! They add a more political/diplomatic feel to OFP, which I have been having the best time making missions for. Thanks again for the great effort Cl.

I think this has been said before but doors that can not only be opened but blasted open is a good thing to include.

Hi Colonel_Klink,

It looks amazing even if it is an old pic. I say hats off to the Colonel and philcommando for creating addons that add so much more variety for players and mission makers alike.

Just a question Klink ,but would it be theoreticly possible to make a building converter that converts regular ofp buildings into building's of this nature? (or atleast the existing ones that are enterable)

So that all existing enterable buildings could be converted to ones that can be partially destroyed etc.?

Tutorial for this is in the making. What I would like to do is create a smaller building with the features so others can experiment as well. The embassy as pictured will take some time to do as it is quite large and I want to do it well.

Master Klink, is it possible you could do a meeting room where two leaders of two nations sit and talk in big elaborate chairs while photos shoot them. That'd be awesome for a cutscene i thought up. Here's how it goes:

Two world leaders meet with each other. One is suspicious that the other has weapons of mass destruction prepped and aimed and ready to launch a nuclear strike within the next few weeks based on intelligence he's received. He tells that to the other world leader. The other world leader says to him "no" basically and that he's wrong. Also he says if I catch any of your people spying in my country, they will wish that they had never lived.

It's just that we know that it's theoreticly possible ,when it is released with documentation how to use the script's etc i'm sure that someone will want to change the standard and so many other structure's with these feature's even if you personally don't write a converter. smile_o.gif

They will work well in the editor, and with a bit of trickery they can be made to function on user made maps as well.
