Speaking of faces... Did I mention about my face problem on LSR units... tounge_o.gif

Anyway keep up the good work Laser...

@9mm... yeah man I totally agree - Lasers units are by far The Best... but those new heads!..... I've commented about them before... they're miles better detail-wise than the default BIS head but they play hell with face textures.... Total "Evil Twin Syndrome" !!

As far as I can tell there's no easy way to change just the head, so it's back to the v1.5 for me & my clan...

Yeah, i remember your deep analysis on 'Evil Twin Syndrom' from Lauma's head thread. Excellent.

I know it's not an easy thing to change whole head, but still, I guess our belowed custom faces deserve better smile_o.gif

Mayby Laser shoud consider Lauma's model as it handles default face textures bit better.

Yeah, Llaumas model has been evolving nicely - it's "average"... most face textures will be recognisable and the detailed modelling makes the BIS head look like a rolled-op ball of paper! I reckon it'll become the standard with a lot of new unit addons - hopefully with the LSR units too???

BUT... y'know... Maybe Laser knows more Rangers than we do...

I was lookin' around for facepaint closeups to steal ideas from and I found this guy...

i love every addon youve made

but i just cant get past the m4a1 desert textures

i believe all your units are great but i think the desert textures of the weapons really need an update more than the actual units,  since the seals are top notch, delta are the best addon now

so plz update m4 desert textures

No, the new heads don't play hell on me, since i've tried creating my own face and applying it ingame. I think i might have a cure for your situtation, all i ask of you is to send me that face texture you're trying to apply to check that out.

Single Plane - NO head - Llauma head

I checked out the face to see what's different about them. It's obvious that the front texture is slightly oversized for the model. The nose gets bigger than it actually is. It's also mirrored but that might be the correct way, I need to check that out. Offcourse my head model is more detailed but that has nothing to do with it.

But people need to keep in mind that it's impossible to make a head for custom face textures if the textures dont follow the layout to start with.

The problem of the ON head is not in the model itself, it is just because its mapping is not made to support BIS texture without deforming them, it would need specially made textures to have them right.

An example

1 -> BIS head with Victor face BIS texture

2 -> ON head with Victor face BIS texture

3 -> ON head with Victor face -reworked- texture (reworked just a bit, i am far from having the dimension right and i don't know if the mouth is placed where the model mouth is, and i am not really talented in picture retouching to have the face right)

And here the Victor face BIS texture and reworked texture next from each other, so you can see i just resized down a bit the eye/mouth/nose.

So to use soldiers that has a ON head with your own custom face, you will have to rework it a bit , like the example i show there.

Llauma reworked the mapping of his head to support BIS textures without deformation (and made an impressive work to do so), while he has a higher res head with a different mapping , but with its own textures , so there is no deformations

This is great! Just shows how much of a community OFP actually is!

I gripe a bit about a few relatively unimportant face textures and three of the biggest OFP addon guns appear to advise on the problem! So cool!

I was pretty sure it was a mapping problem somehow magnifying the texture, as Sanctuary says... I looked at the ON head in Oxygen and it's NOT that wierd, nasal wedge shape... not nearly up to Llaumas new one which I was also playing with, but a relatively normal and quite detailed shape...

I can get that far, but detailed remapping is still a bit beyond me, though I've just found a tutorial on gizmo mapping which'll keep me quiet for a few hours.... Then I'll have a go with my newly created collection of these 3 "severed heads"...

I was hoping that whoever created the ON head or who knew it well enough would come up with a basic eyes/nose/mouth positioning template which I and others could follow - I'm sure most of us ordinary mortals could manage that level of basic texture editing. Sanctuarys edited template from the last post looks like a good place to start...

Llaumas head, as I've said before, is definitely destined to become the new standard head on new unit addons I reckon, and he seems to have figured out a mapping layout that'll accept the old BIS template, though I'd happily redo all my custom textures and adopt any or all new templates I can lay my hands on that will suit, even to the extent of doing ones specifically for LSR unit use, or for new units incorporating Llaumas work when they start to appear...

I think I'll shut up for now and let you guys discuss the matter some more... I'll just hang around and follow the conversation... it's bound to be helpful...

I just came across an old addon of yours from about 2003... Russian SF units! GRU and naval infantry.... they're pretty good, but do you have any plans to redo these to the new stunning quality of your recent rangers and seals?

I've seen some photos recently of Spetznaz exercises and training and the new "camo hooded" CSLA forthcoming units look pretty good and pretty close, but I'm sure we'd all be interested to know if you're planning something along those lines.... ?

(oh! and also "winter textures all round huh.gif" has just been shouted at me by my clan buddy in the kitchen looking for beers)

I've been thinking the same for a hell of a long time. The LSR Russian Special Forces pack ruled, and the units are still usable to some extent smile_o.gif

I'd really like to se a remake of that pack, along with some great weapons. Pity noones made any new AK-104's or AK-105's. confused_o.gif

The RHS special forces are really good as well, but as far as weapon variety goes it doesn't really match LSR's at all. I really liked the fact that he didn't just copy what everybody else had already done, and instead chose some more "obscure" weapons that are absolutely great in their own right.

Realism be damned, that weapon selection was superb, too bad it's outdated now.

Yup, it's the mapping, i reckon... i need at least to re-apply the texture to the NO head to make it look more realistic for West side units... i might understand why DPS mapped the texture the way he did, the current version looks more of a "Russian-type" head, not "New-York Jewish" IMO, if you catch my drift smile_o.gif Not sure about a new head model to appear soon, but i'll think what can be done here. But, hell... the poly count is already almost sky-high... i try to save everywhere i can, even on those crappy stick-like shadows. Now that the mags sticking out of the pouches are my standard... OUCH...

Now to the current business. I put the SEAL project somewhat on hold right now, since you guys have already some of those units to play with for now (note that i'm NOT discontinuiung the project but putting it aside a bit). Right now the priority is given to some certain type of Russian units, but i won't divulge any info as my East units are done under the wing of Red Hammer Studios, so if RHS management chooses to leak the info, i'll leave that to their choice. All i can say that the current Eastern project is 60-70% complete and it's gonna be a kickass, as usual smile_o.gif

@ShadowNX: now that you have a beta, man, please OH please post some screenies for the people smile_o.gif

I hope you update your OMON units at some point or RHS release some, I really liked those guys, with the removable ski masks and stuff.
