Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 26, 2004 Oh no, it happened again. Another magazine voted for the most adequate war-simulation and guess what...they didnt even consider OFP. Sad enough cause the magazine "Gamestar" was always known for their independant judgements and know-how. They admited having done a mistake but the magazine is published and it is already to late to change it. Fact is they invited several military specialists who tested and voted for americas army. BUT they never played Operation Flashpoint. Please do me a favour and give some feedback to their forum (german feedback). It is the most famous magazine in germany and people out there need know. I guess I am not allowed to post a link to their forum (against the forum rules ) but you find it in "community" / "offene Foren" / "Meinungen zum Heft". You find the article here Gamestar Article
mr burns 132 Posted August 26, 2004 how could they forget ofp ? i guess they need me to work for their ofp department

Metalmalte 0 Posted August 26, 2004 damn, and i always buy this mag... can't we look out for some polls in magazines and then the whole forum votes for ofp... http://forum.gamestar.de/gspinboard/showthread.php?t=53594
raedor 8 Posted August 26, 2004 i read a bit there now. but the editorial staff clearly said that they only wanted to test new games... i don't read pc magazines, now i know why.
Balschoiw 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Gamestar is a crappy magazine anyway..no wonder they didn´t consider OFP. Most probably too complicated for them...

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 26, 2004 Gamestar is a crappy magazine anyway..no wonder they didn´t consider OFP. Most probably too complicated for them... Crappy maybe, so is "Bild" but the amount of readers it reaches is big. So dont let them spread so much nonesense. And from the past I know that they are actually man enough to mention a mistake in the next edition. BTW: Good post Burns!

Heatseeker 0 Posted August 26, 2004 What games did they rate . I wouldnt find unmodified/untouched original OPF+R very realistic either, both in gameplay and units/weapons, etc. I mean we can fire burst from AK's or mounted M2 machine guns from the drivers seat amongst other stuff . The Real Armstrong 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Bah! Is there no PC Gamer in Germany?
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 26, 2004 Strangely enough they made a real test with real military specialists (yeah right) and MOST strangely is the fact that one of their journalists is know to be an OFP Maniac. I guess sex, drugs and RocknRoll sells better.
Parvus 0 Posted August 26, 2004 *Warning* to read that *test* or the forum posts there means => to support such guyz there (and they are fishing for *arcade* jumper-shooter)
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted August 26, 2004 Give them a break. Bals might not like them (but hey tell me someone Bals likes ) .. but they are pretty decent in their comments and they voted Operation Flashpoint as best game of the year when it came out. They are pretty fair in their treatment. They openly declared Söldner as an insult to gamers and voted Resistance as one of the games with the most believable protagonists (of all times). Parvus 0 Posted August 26, 2004 .. but a game-magazine - with E3-Babes - is like *The Sun* or *Bild* for me ... they have one intention (over all other intentions) *Sex sells* ...and what ppl want to read, they will get to read. ... sure u have right (with their voting for OFP:R) but at that time there wasnt AA or Battlefield Vietnam or soeldner ... (now they are and gamestar report about *simulations* without ofp - bacause its too old they said) ..think about it. => the same magazine has reported about f.e. 4 years old *Fantasy-OnlineA&D* ..that wasn't too old?! Balschoiw 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Bals might not like them (but hey tell me someone Bals likes  ) I liked you.   They simply have no quality to offer. That´s my point. The language they use in their magazine is below my needs. It´s just a magazine for teens, not more not less. Edit: The only PC games magazine I know that is even below them is PC Action. That is really the bottom level of gaming magazines in germany.
der bastler 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Sad enough cause the magazine "Gamestar" was always known for their independant judgements and know-how. They admited having done a mistake but the magazine is published and it is already to late to change it. Gamestar was good. But they kept quiet about OFP (ok, other mags as well). I stopped buying game mags in the beginning of 2004 because hype games got pages and pages and "unknown" but probably better games were reviewed in 1/8 page ("Funny, no woes, 70something, next game"). E.g. Savage. That was the point I noticed some sort of bias... The original PC Joker (read it since 1992) --gone PowerPlay --gone ASM --gone PC Player (read it since '93/'94) --gone PC Games (read it since '92) --still there, but as crappy as Gamestar. They provide only few informations imo... I should have stopped buying mags after the shutdown of PC Player... Bah! Is there no PC Gamer in Germany? There was some sort of PC Gamer in Germany --PC Player after they got bought by Future Verlag. In mid-2001 they were terminated due to portfolio sweepings... Von da an ging's bergab mit Deutschlands Spielezeitschriftenlandschaft... (Since then Germany's game mag scene was going down the drain...) Edit: The only PC games magazine I know that is even below them is PC Action. That is really the bottom level of gaming magazines in germany. Right... Skul 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Why are you so pissed off? It's only a game. Stop treating OFP like it's some kind of god... Oh yeah, as soon as a magazine doesn't feature this fucking shit, the mag suddenly becomes 'crap'! Fuck you! If the most famous, most well-liked mag in the history of the world didn't feature your shitty 'game', then I suppose you would consider it 'crap'! You fuckers are sad! All you care about is Operation Shitepoint! Operation Shitepoint is not the only game ever made! It's so fucking shite! Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 are far better than this piece of shit! Also, it's made by stupid, dumbass russians! Fuck russia! Stupid fucks! [Gareth Gates must die]
The Real Armstrong 0 Posted August 26, 2004 The reason why we are mad is cause OFP is a great game and should be treated as one. Instead the public doesn't know what it is and they go for games like Counter Strike instead.
Shashman 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Thing is if you want quality then you're gonna have to read specialist magazines, more specialist than general game magazines and specifically PC games magazines. One example, a magazine I read regularly when I lived in Belgium was Micro Sim, as the name suggests specialising in all types of simulators, mainly flight sims, and they've always regarded OFP as a quality, realistic simulation... llauma 0 Posted August 26, 2004 The other games they meansion are all newer games. Noone who haven't played OFP since the start will like it if they try it now for the first time. The clipping problem is the worst in any FPS I know, the animations are way too stiff and the game engine is built on DX8 and it doesn't even use all the good dx8 effects. The game concept is still outstanding but the game you get can't compete with the newer ones when it comes to gameplay. If OFP would have been a normal FPS I would have propably played it once and never played it again.
