theavonlady 2 Posted August 24, 2004 See this thread for reference. TEXT REMOVED (see next post) Download the original OFP demo's Ambush mission. ReadMe: Quote[/b] ]****************************************************The Original OFP Demo's Ambush Mission, version 1.00 **************************************************** Copyright © 2004 The Avon Lady, all rights reserved. So there! Produced by The Avon Lady, of The OFP FAQ. The OFP FAQ: http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq Email: theavonlady@theavonlady.org --------------------------------------------------- Miss the old "happy ending" you used to get at the end of the original OFP Demo's Ambush SP mission? Remember? You run towards the beach, a Blackhawk swoops in to evacuate you and then your chopper gets shot out of the sky by a pesky Shilka? And then a cutscene displays, showing the Shilka and some roving T72s and BMPs, followed by some very melodramatic text and OFP's banner logo? It's back! The original! I extracted it myself from the earliest version of OFP's demo. Nothing's been changed but the file and mission names, for easier identification. Just place the PBO file into OFP's MISSIONS folder and away you go! Why BIS removed that great ending from the retail version's Ambush mission, I'll never understand. --------------------------------------------------- This is BIS' original work, untouched. All thanks goes to them. --------------------------------------------------- Known Problems: I've successfully gotten the evacuation Blackhawk to come in and pick us off the beach. If it fails for you, you have my sympathies but I can only recommend that you retry playing the mission. I tested this mission with OFP version 1.96. I've noted in the requirements, below, that it should work with any verion of OFP but I can't promise that. --------------------------------------------------- Requirements: 1.  OFP version 1.00 or greater. 2.  No addons required. theavonlady 2 Posted August 24, 2004 Since it's the old OFP demo's version, I believe it's somewhat easier to complete than the latest version of Ambush that comes with OFP.What would be great is if someone could fix the latest version of Ambush to restore the original's ending. I tried but did not succeed. I just compared the demo's and the retail version's MISSION.SQM files. They both have the exact same number and type of WEST and EAST units, with the exact same SKILL settings. So, the demo version equals the retail version in gameplay. Of course, you get the original evacuation ending restored with the demo version. So no one need work on restoring the ending in the retail version, when you can simply play the demo version. Quote[/b] ] i believe next you will be making a conversion too. Naw! I've already done conversions of Ambush in the past to highlight this or that soldier addon. Just play it under EECP or Y2K3 for instant conversion.

theavonlady 2 Posted August 24, 2004 Just a reminder than now we need a top-notch mission maker to produce a sequel to the downing scene.
SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted August 24, 2004 Thanks Avon. Gosh.. The memoires. :o) I remember fooling around with it and playing it over and over again when I found it in a PC gamer magazine. This may be strange but untill you said that the version included in the full game has a different outro I had no idea that it was the case. /shame on speedydonkey for not completing the "none Demo" version of Ambush
void_false 1 Posted August 24, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Just play it under EECP or Y2K3 for instant conversion. hahaha. people always find reasons when they dont want to do something
theavonlady 2 Posted August 24, 2004 /shame on speedydonkey for not completing the "none Demo" version of Ambush Like many others, you thought you'd already played it till your footsteps were permanently engrained on Malden from previous attempts.

jakerod 254 Posted August 24, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Just a reminder than now we need a top-notch mission maker to produce a sequel to the downing scene. There already is one. Hasn't been publicly released yet but soon it should be. Someone I know used it in the Mission Competition. It was quite fun.

Heatseeker 0 Posted August 24, 2004 I visualise a sequel for this but it reminds me of "montignac must fall" and "after Montignac". Hard to believe the same people that build this also built resistance campaign , theres just something special in the original CWC/1985 stuff, hard to explain . Hard to believe the same people that build this also built resistance campaign , theres just something special in the original CWC/1985 stuff, hard to explain . yeah, CWC followed the life of a soldier, a trooper surviving rather then someone who is fighting a war, with CwC you didn't had the best of the best, you where struggeling to keep you alive as you just get send in to take a village, not knowing what might happen. EDIT: just played the mission: could've taken some from the outro... but that would mean sacrificing this one
joltan 0 Posted August 25, 2004 Nice! This great demo mission with it's unforgotten cliffhanger ending was what originally convinced me to go out buy the game imediately after completing it.
theavonlady 2 Posted August 26, 2004 Nice! This great demo mission with it's unforgotten cliffhanger ending was what originally convinced me to go out buy the game imediately after completing it. Go back to that first time. The vastness of the terrain. The soliders. The guns. The helicopter overhead. The jeep. The M5 truck. The dialogue. The encounter with the first Russian. The sounds of battle. The radio chatter. The BMP and its destruction, preceded by the woosh sound in the air of an AT rocket. The village. The UAZ that drove smack into the heat of the battle. Dead squadmates. The folliage to hide in. Picking up weapons from the dead. Houdan. The Russian truck, bringing in reinforcements. The false victory of clearing Houdan. The nearby rumbling of armored vehicles. The retreat under fire. The rescue. The rescue's failure. The enemy's hunt for survivors. Of course you bought it!
Heatseeker 0 Posted August 26, 2004 And today with better hardware, higher detail, increased view distance, Llaumax and dxdll and dreamy knight's anims it looks even better not to mention the unit replacement configs .
joltan 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Of course you bought it! Hehe, yeah! It's not as if I really did have a choice...
Heatseeker 0 Posted August 26, 2004 I just opened the OPF ambush mission file to see it in the ME again and there is stuff from the demo version there, i checked the blackhawk and found a trigger synced to it with reference to the ZSU, deleting this trigger makes the chopper come to the extraction zone everytime but it got stuck on a waypoint after extracting the survivors so i reduced the 200m flyinheight to 100 and it worked but it also said i was lost or something and the helo didnt really follow the waypoints properly i guess . Wathever happened to this mission is indeed very strange but i think it is fixable .
gandalf the white 0 Posted August 26, 2004 i can't wait.... . fuck it, i'll abort the MP mission campaign and make the return... in single player!
