HEELPP!!!

Recommended Posts

Everytime I try to log into my hotmail email account, the page automatically switches to this page.

http://296f8.ilxt.info/index.php?aid=20009

It's like whenever I go to the hotmail site, it immediately does this.

I cannot check email.

This is pissing me off.

I went into the IE properties and cleared history and deleted webfiles.

It is still happening.

HELP!

Your browser was hijacked.

Try some other sites (e.g. google), i'm sure it will happen aswell on these sites.

You should install an Anti-Virus tool.

Antivirus programs don't generally detect hijack attempts through Browser Helper Objects (BHOs), you need a tool to remove spyware/adware.

Download Ad-Aware, install it, let it update to the latest definitions, configure it to scan all drives and your HOSTS file, and perform a deep scan...

This is funny. The site belongs to some clown in the Ukraine, and the first thing it does it display a warning indicating that my computer is infested with spyware (which it is not). Of course, it offers a free tool to remove it. I think not...

It is downloaded. Will it automatically kill spyware and hijackers?

Sometimes antivirus apps do work against spyware, sometimes they don't. If it's a problem with an unwanted browser plugin, you might try this.

It doesn't run continously in the background, it scans your system only when you click on the Start button.

Once the scan is complete, you'll see a list of offending objects, which includes spyware, adware, malware, and cookies used to track which websites you visit. Place a checkmark next to the individual items you want removed, or right-click and choose the option to select everything.

I have NEVER found a reason not to delete everything Ad-Aware identified.

I used the AdWare thing.  I did the scan and deleted every file it turned up.

The problem still persists.

Perhaps I am not using the tool correctly?

If the items it found have been removed, they should not show up during subsequent scans. Have you tried another scan?

Once you scan it will remove the bad bits but as soon as you change it you need to change your homepage, close the browser and scan one more time to make sure.

The program that ECD sugested is usually the best one for browser related problems (such as in this case, a hijack)

A couple of things:

1. Nothing else should be running when AdAware runs.

2. Did you update AdAware with the latest reference file? To do so, you have to click on CHECK FOR UPDATES NOW on AdAware's initial screen. The latest reference file is dated July 24, when I last checked.

3. After it found everything, did you make sure that all the objects found were selected for deletion and that you actually followed through and has AdAware delete them?

Be sure to install the VX2 plugin http://www.lavasoft.de/software/plugins/vx2cleaner.shtml

I just caught a pesky piece of Spyware that couldn't be found and/or removed by Ad-Aware, SpyBot or PestPatrol. Unfortunately even though I use Firefox now IE is needed for things such as updating windows, this spyware was starting IE roughly every 15 mins and taking me to various websites (nothing interesting unfortunately) smile_o.gif
