The next ones are inspired by WargamingNor's excellent pics! smile_o.gif

Slash-and-Burn clearing about 15 miles inside Laos, near Highway 165. RT Maine just after it was inserted by H-34 Kingbee. The team consists of eight members. The teams One-Zero David Baker, One-One Sherman Miller, One-Two Mike Buckland, the teams RTO and five Montagnards.

rt_maine1.jpg

After they were inserted, Baker headed for the treeline but suddenly he stopped and the rest of the team did too. In the treeline he could see bunkers and groups of NVA. He backed away to head for the opposite treeline but that too was crawling with NVA. Infact, there was NVA soldiers everywhere! RT Maine was surrounded on an open LZ and outnumbered against an enemy entrenched in bunkers. They could hear them loading their heavy MG's, but no one opened fire. Baker also noted that the bunkers didn't have firing holes, so the NVA had to glimb on top of them to shoot. They all just stood there looking at each other. Then some NVA officers came from an underground bunker with well-get-to-the-bottom-of-this kind of look.

rt_maine2.jpg

Maybe the NVA had mistaken the unmarked Kingbee for a Russian Mi-4 which the North Vietnamese used. The teams One-Two smiled, waved at the NVA and shouted something in russian.

rt_maine3.jpg

More NVA had come from the bunkers now and the officers started approaching RT Maine. They didn't point their AK's at them and RT Maines One-Zero, One-Two and the teams Yard pointman holded their CAR-15's low. They let the officers come to the treeline and then all three opened fire. The NVA command element was dead.

rt_maine4.jpg

RT Maine started firing at the NVA who had grabbed their guns but they were still trying to figure wtf had just happened. RT Maine fired at least ten seconds before the NVA returned fire. For RT Maines surprise, the NVA started shooting at each other! RT Maine fired low while the confused NVA fired high hitting each other. They could easily take out any NVA on top of the bunkers but they needed airsupport. Baker grabbed the radio and called gunships in, telling them to spray the treeline with rockets.

rt_maine5.jpg

Few A-1 Skyriders came in hard and hit an NVA wave just as it was reaching RT Maine. RT Maine withstood the NVA attacks. Baker didn't want an extract untill all NVA were dead or pushed back. Baker told Covey (USAF FAC) to bring napalm in close before RT Maine was overrun...

rt_maine6.jpg

A 750-pound napalm canister split apart near RT Maines position and sprayed small petroleum smelling bits on top of RT Maine. Then the napalm exploded into a fireball and black smoke blocked the sun.

rt_maine7.jpg

RT Maine was extracted by an H-34 shortly after that.

As said before, the story was inspired by WargamingNor's images. Some may have heard this story too, I tried to make it into OFP from a book I'm reading. No adverts or nothing, I just thought it would fit here. wink_o.gif

They are about 20 years before the Defender  wink_o.gif

They are the Series 3 lightwieght Land Rover. It is a Series 3 88 inch wheelbase which has most non-essential parts removed in order to lighten it for air portability. The aim was to make it weigh less than half a ton in total. It does infact weigh nearer to 3/4 of a ton, but still a big improvment on the 1.5 ton standard version. smile_o.gif
