EiZei 0 Posted April 16, 2004 Now I'm looking at GF6800U simply because I have only positive experience with Nvidia and their driver-support.Still living in the past? Get over it, driver support from ATI are now at least as good if not even better than from nVidia. I still see plenty of support/troubleshooting requests from radeon owners and "driver roulette" is still way too common. The situtation has probably improved tremendously but Id hardly call ATI's drivers better than Nvidia's. No, im not a nvidia fanboy, my next display adapter could be just about anything. aj_addons 0 Posted April 16, 2004 yeah ATI's drivers tend not to be to good when the cards just been released but they do get better

And if you look at the nVidia forums (like nVnews) you will see that nVidia users are not without problems either. I have not a single problem with my ATI card and I play alot of different games/demo.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 16, 2004 I never had a real problem with my Radeon cards either. Except when I was too stupid to properly install a new driver!
SpecOp9 0 Posted April 16, 2004 Well, this certainly is on my "To buy" list.
S_Z 0 Posted April 16, 2004 Well, this certainly is on my "To buy" list.Maybe you should wait on putting it on the list until you at least have seen the competition? Alot of people crown the NV40 as king without having a clue on how good the R420(X800XT) will perform. I thought people would have learned something from the release of the present generation of cards (R300/NV30)…I guess not

shadow 6 Posted April 16, 2004 I don't know about you S_Z, but I prefer 2 drivers a month with minor fixes than 1 driver every other month with a bunch of fixes. I'm under the impression that ATI has pulled itself together lately regarding drivers, but Nvidia is quicker with fixing issues. That is one of the main points why I favour Nvidia over ATI (assuming the cards are pretty much the same performance- and stability-wise). And I don't care for how Nvidia "screwed up" with their FX-series. I've never owned one and never will.

Personally I think its too much with one driver a month. Im still using Cat 4.1 and I have no problem at all with it so I don't see any reason to upgrade. Gadger 0 Posted April 17, 2004 I'd rather wait for the next gen. ATI cards. IMO since the 9600 ati have out performed nvidia by a long way, although being less user-friendly.
drewb99 0 Posted April 17, 2004 Meh, I'm not too sure about what ATI's got cooking. The R300 core's been the workhorse for 3 generations now, and while it's a good core it's not going to be top dog forever. Before the R300 ATI was a reletively unsucessful company too, and unless they really put on a show I'll still somewhat consiter them a one-trick pony.
