Max size of addons folder?

Recommended Posts

What size should I let it get to before it's likely to cause problems?

Thanks

I have a feeling nobody knows for sure and that it also depends on your comp. specs especialy cpu and ram.

I normaly start with 3-4 mod-folders. They are all in all about 2.5GB and i don't have any problems (useing 1.96 and -nomap)

Yes, it varies hugely depending on system specs, what else is running in the background, etc.

P.S. What exactly does the -nomap command do?

Someone prolly could explain better but I think -nomap doesn't load your addons at startup (you know how ofp looks at every addon before starting)

My biggest folder is 695MB, though I use a lot of mod folders. I'd recommend using lots of mod folders, because with a few changes in your Target line you can dramatically lower your loading times.

Just recently at a LAN session, I had two friends with fresh installs of OFP there, and I gave them each a CD of addons to copy into their game directory. Both of these machines were identical in their harware setup (down to the last component, they both bought them from the same supplier), CPU, RAM etc.

One loaded the addons no probs, the other gave "cannot memory map" error. Figure that one out... sad_o.gif

My mate's machines got that same probelm but his is a 3ghz P4,Radeon 9800pro, with 3 gig of ram running XP prof

All he can use is about 25megs worth of addons otherwise it won't load,

and no-map doesn't work mad_o.gif ,damn frustrating as it's so nice

playing @ maximum resolution with no lag (note: if addon folder is over size limit it doesn't matter what LOD setting or resolution he is playing @ flashpoint still won't start mad_o.gif

Now he's given up on flashpoint .. how sad is that? &^&^%^$#@

And he basically bought that machine to play flashpoint dagnammitt!!

P.S. What exactly does the -nomap command do?

I've no idea tounge_o.gif

The only thing i know is, that if i don't use -nomap my OFP CTD with this "out of memory"-error.

I think -nomap manages the addon-loading (perhaps not all addons are loaded at the same time rock.gif ) But as i just said, i'v no idea. It's just a suggestion.

Does he get an error-message (like this "out of memory" error (it's a grafic-card error message afaik))?

Whitch version of OFP does he use? 1.96?

-nomap won't work with 1.85, and 1.91. Perhaps that's the problem.

EDIT:

Quote[/b] ]1.92  - Fixed: Different file-acess technique used when memory mapping fails. This should prevent Cannot memory map

file errors. This alternative technique can be also enforced for all files by using command line switch -nomap

1.93  - Fixed: New command line option -nomap was ignored sometimes.

Quote[/b] ]no-map doesn't work

If you spell it that way, it won't work. It should be -nomap , and use 1.93 or higher.

well there is no Max size but i suggest you:

Keep your Addon folders at a limit from 600mb.

Cause: OFP can get Buggy when you got big addon files to load ( CTD no sound and that kind of stuff can ocure )

So remember:

600mb as a limit then create a new Addon folder ( With the Mod command )

This may be a dumb question but....

1. How do you do the more addon folders thing? Just make another folder called addons under the flashpoint folder?

2. How do you get this -nomap thing to work? Where do you type it and such?

I have problems wenever my addon folder starts getting to big like random no sound and ctds.

to create a new Addon folder:

Go to your main OFP folder:

1: Create new Folder

2: Create a new folder in side the new created folder and call it "Addons"

3: Make a shorcut from your OFPbeta.exe ( or what version you have ) or if you did that already

4: Right click on the Shortcut and then go to propertys and add this:

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE" -nosplash -mod=yourfoldername
