kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 for the past week or two ive been having what i can only say are random crashes to desktop, ive got quite a few addons but all sorted neatley into mod folders, im using the latest version of ecp aswell. this is from my flashpoint.rpt Quote[/b] ]=======================================================Date: 03/27/04 Â Time: 02:21:29 ------------------------------------------------------- Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00628AE5 Version 1.96 Fault address: Â 00628AE5 01:00227AE5 D:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE file: Â Â 06Defend world: Â Â Eden campaign: redhammer battle: Â Part1 mission: Â 06Defend Prev. code bytes: 00 85 C9 8B 9C 9E 20 2E 00 00 7C 24 85 DB 7C 20 Fault code bytes: 8B 80 64 01 00 00 6B DB 68 6B C9 68 03 D8 03 C8 Registers: EAX:00000000 EBX:00000000 ECX:00000000 EDX:1015B4F8 ESI:113F9300 EDI:101AFDA0 CS:EIP:001B:00628AE5 SS:ESP:0023:0012E784 Â EBP:0012E80C DS:0023 Â ES:0023 Â FS:0038 Â GS:0000 Flags:00010246 ======================================================= Quote[/b] ]======================================================= Date: 03/26/04 Â Time: 15:47:46 ------------------------------------------------------- Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00628AE5 Version 1.96 Fault address: Â 00628AE5 01:00227AE5 D:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE file: Â Â Airbase defence (__cur_sp) world: Â Â abel Prev. code bytes: 00 85 C9 8B 9C 9E 20 2E 00 00 7C 24 85 DB 7C 20 Fault code bytes: 8B 80 64 01 00 00 6B DB 68 6B C9 68 03 D8 03 C8 Registers: EAX:00000000 EBX:00000000 ECX:00000000 EDX:1015B4F8 ESI:113BEF00 EDI:101AFDA0 CS:EIP:001B:00628AE5 SS:ESP:0023:0012E7AC Â EBP:0012E834 DS:0023 Â ES:0023 Â FS:0038 Â GS:0000 Flags:00090246 ======================================================= access violation? is that a memory issue? im getting crases at what seems completley random times, i was going to make my way through the red hammer campaign seeing as i had never played it before, and i was also going to re-do the origional campaign crashes also, not only is it official stuff crashing but also user made missions too, at first i thought it was just one of those things, but now its occouring alot, and quite frankly its getting rather annoying. my comp specs are... Athlon 2400XP 1024mb pc2100 ram 60 gig and 40 gig hdd's Soundblaster Live! Radeon 9700Pro latest omega drivers (tried offcial ati ones too but no difference) DX 9.0b flashpoint beta 1.96 *edit* Win XP Pro sp1 +all windows updates *edit edit* I have the red hammer compatability patch installed, and my swap file is set to 1530mb, its on auto Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 im also now getting the following error whilst trying to load a save game Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Acecombat 0 Posted March 27, 2004 That savegame is a typical ECP bug with certain games , no workaround for that. The random ctds well join the club i have them too and for no reason as well OFP just hiccups and were at the desktop Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 even if i run the game withought ecp is still happens Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
joltan 0 Posted March 27, 2004 I have found the most probable reason for most ctds is the ram. You use pc2100 ddr. Are you sure it's 100% ok? Try playing with the timings, also check if the memory clock is equal or less than your cpu's max. fsb speed. I've had my motherboard clock my ram (even on safe settings) faster than the max fsb of my cpu (200MHz vs 166MHz), and the result were regular ctds in OFP. Since I lowered it to match the 166MHz fsb (=333MHz ddr) it works flawless and I haven't had a ctd in weeks. The ram itself worked fine when tested at 200MHz in another machine at the shop, so it must be the clock difference that was causing the problems. So even if it's the ram it doesn't nescessarily have to be replaced. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 the ram is fine, been working perfectly, my last upgrade was a new cpu about 6-7 months ago, never had any problems before, no other game or program crashes. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
joltan 0 Posted March 27, 2004 Well, I also didn't have any problems with other programs (I guess none used the machine as intensely as OFP), and my ram is 100% fine, too - it was just a simple bios setting. I really recommend looking into this - especially since you now have a new cpu (probably with a different FSB). It's possible that a bios update changed some settings that are now causing your ctds... Anyways, there are also other reasons for ctds, but i had error messages similar to yours, and in most other cases I know it was either defective ram, or wrong ram speed or timings. Heatseeker 0 Posted March 27, 2004 Before tearing your computer apart why not remove mod folders from your game directory and -mod parameters from your shortcut and try to see if the game works without any addons, it doesnt seem hardware related. ECP+a whole bunch of addons could be causing you those errors. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 tried that, same result, ill have a tinker with my ram timings but i cant see it being that as its only been over the past couple of weeks that its been happening Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted March 27, 2004 I have exactly the same problem. I THINK it has to do with the addons. Instead of ECP use the FIN-mod. It is more stable and works simillar. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 but it still crashes with no addons what so ever. ive tried a few different ram settings but i still get the ctd's Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Heatseeker 0 Posted March 27, 2004 but it still crashes with no addons what so ever. ive tried a few different ram settings but i still get the ctd's Have you tried to reinstall? It could be that with all the addons+ECP+wathever your game files got damaged or fubared you game instalation . Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

kevbaz 0 Posted March 27, 2004 well i was hoping i wouldnt have to bother BIS about it, was hoping somone had a soloution. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
pitufo 0 Posted March 27, 2004 I get CTD's all the time too, one thing I did, and it either worked or it was just a big coincidence that I wasn't getting and CTD's, was to take the side panels off my cpu and point a fan at it. It seemed to work for me! Also I have a question, how does one go about changing RAM speeds and such? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Placebo 29 Posted March 27, 2004 Also  I have a question, how does one go about changing RAM speeds and such? Generally in the bios, and/or with a switch on the motherboard, as they vary from motherboard to motherboard you should consult your manual. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 30, 2004 Im still getting these ctd's, ive even had a few hard resets too, the only thing i can think of is this blasted windows xp, everything was fine whilst i was running w2k pro... i still havent emaild bis, am waiting a bit longer to see if anyone has any ideas/soloutions Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 30, 2004 well i just had 2 hard reboots in 30mins whilst "trying2 to play ofp, email has been sent to bis... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Placebo 29 Posted March 30, 2004 What are your temps like? Are you overclocking anything? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 30, 2004 not overclocking at all, cpu temp is 45 and system temp is 29. I have removed my sound blaster live! 5.1 card, and things seem very stable so far, ive been able to play for a good hour, and ive been able to continue the red hammer campaign, where as before it would try to load a cutscene and a ctd would occour fingers crossed its the sound card..... Yer, I got rid of my crap Sound Blaster 5.1 Live! and bought and Audigy2 ZS, but the problem keeps occuring. So then I buy a new ATI Radeon 9600 pro also and still have same problem of CTD's. My temporary solution is to re-install my display driver after each time the comp is restarted. It works, but is a pain in the 'rear'. BTW, I've tried a 8500, 9200 and 9600 now with no difference, although it does seem a graphics related problem. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kevbaz 0 Posted March 30, 2004 i havent had a crash scine removing the soundblaster live card (touch wood), am currently using my not so crappy but it aint 5.1, onboard sound, its a nvidia chipset mobo so its not to shabby, am lookig into avoiding creative cards now Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
wolfbane 0 Posted March 31, 2004 There´s definitely some very serious problem with Ofp and Soundblaster soundcards. A while ago i had a terrible system crash when i was running Ofp with my SB Live card freshly installed. Unfortunately i had the bluescreen autoreboot thingy enabled in windows.. and somehow right after the crash and autoreboot the system was totally f*cked up. The NTFS filesystem had been corrupted so i was unable to start up Windows.. There was no way i could repair or revert the system to get it to start again so i had to install Windows again. I got very suspicious about the weird crash and uninstalled the Soundblaster card and since then I have never experienced a crash running Ofp with my onboard Ac´97 soundcard. Placebo 29 Posted March 31, 2004 I have a cheap and nasty soundblaster live value and don't get CTD's, obviously I get crackle so have to turn off hardware sound but I can't complain. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
